Good Hotel for the Money
We made a reservation on short notice as we needed a place to stay for the night. This hotel was a good find with a good location for the evening. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. The view of the beach was nice.

Las Flores Mazatlan
I would give them a great review but, we booked and paid for a certain room type and they tried to put up in a less room, no balcony, no ocean view as we paid for. We went back to front desk as soon as we looked at the room and were told there were no other rooms available until Monday (this was Saturday). We were able to move on Monday but feel that if we had not complained, they would have been happy to leave us in that room for our entire 4 weeks. They offered no apology at all. We had booked this trip 7 months in advance and were quite disappointed. We would stay in this hotel again if we were guaranteed to get the room we paid for, upon check-in. I am already addressing this issue with the vacation package provider and hope to get a resolution.

Las Flores on the Beach in Mazatlan
The hotel has a lot going for it. The beach is wonderful as is the view. The restaurant is nice with good food and great service. There is a very nice pool area, as well. Plus, everything is very clean and wifi is free. There is however, a "but". The first room we were in had a rock hard bed. After I checked with the desk three times, we did get a foam for the mattress, which helped a bit. Another problem was the street noise, which was very bad indeed. Also, there was a mariachi band that played next door most of the night on Sat night. Fortunately we we able to be moved to an upgraded room, which was lovely and much quieter. It had a better bed, the kitchen was nicely equipped and we had the same amazing view from our deck. The price was not bad, so overall, we we content there. There are great restaurants in the area. Lulu's is wonderful, Margaritas was very good as was Pancho's. And the Panama is great. We would also recommend the Fish Market, the Three Amigos, The Bruja and Roy's. Meals are a little more expensive than they used to be in the area, but still very reasonable by ANY resort standard. Did we think safety was an issuer? Not at all. The people are warm friendly and certainly in need of tourism. We've been to Mazatlan many times and wouldn't hesitate to go again. Would we recommend this hotel to others? It depends on what people want. It has the deck and the view and pretty good amenities. We won't stay there again because of the noise, even in the upgraded room.

Entertainment tip:
Long walk from hotel
The Three Amigos had great entertainment on Wed night, but do go early as it was packed. Dick Damron from Alberta is one of the singers and he attracts the Canadian Snowbirds. The others are good, too. If you can get a reservation for dinner, that the best way to go, then hang onto your table.

Good, Bad or otherwise
I have traveled to many different locations in Mexico for the past twenty years; this was my first trip to Mazatlan. The topography is quite beautiful. Las Flores offers stunning views of the Pacific ocean, the beach is clean and the sunsets are breath taking. I rented a Ocean view studio for the week. The decor was very basic and outdated. Satellite tv was very fuzzy with poor size and picture quality. If you need internet access, be prepared to go down to the lobby, and even there it is slow and often times disconnects; keep in mind if you are on the 11th floor this is quite problematic with only one elevator working properly. Beds and pillows are horribly uncomfortable. Be prepared to spend $8.00 for a margarita; the most expensive I have ever paid in twenty years of traveling to Mexico. If you want to pay 5 star prices for great views, this hotel is for you; I on the other hand will not return.

Nice stay...
We have stayed at Las Flores at least 8 times and have always enjoyed our visit. The staff is attentive and personal, seem to want your visit to be perfect. Our room was comfortable and well appointed -- except the two beds were full sized and very very firm. It would be much appreciated to have the option for a king size bed with a comfortable (i.e., SOFTER) mattress. Our shower only delivered lukewarm water for the first two days, but the requests to improve the hot water resulted in an entire 10 days of pleanty of hot water with great water pressure. We were in Mazatlan March 9 to 21, 2011 -- it was really depressing to see the very empty beaches and restaurants. It was so sad to see the beach vendors looking to make a sale to anyone, but there was no one there to sell to... There was also a higher police/military presence and a notable increase in graffiti and closed businesses. It was not the Mazatlan we've visited in the past. Though we did not feel endagnered or threatened in any way, it will be a while before (if) we visit Mazatlan again (and I say that with a heavy heart). For future visitors, the ocean front suite at Las Flores is a great option for families wanting a little privacy for spearation of sleeping and living spaces. We were there when the earthquake hit Japan but found limited access to English speaking news sources via television or radio. A USA Today newspaper was about $4.50 per day-old edition at the local vendor. Plan to bring a lap top or note book computer if you wish to stay in contact with current events or people at home. However, our internet connection was difficult to obtain and less than reliable when finally established. We ended up paying a few dollars for 30 minutes on a land-line computer to complete 'necessary' communications. NOT an ideal location for an internet-dependant working vacation. Wish you all the best on your travels.

Great hotel with a great location on a nice stretch of beach. Good food and prices. The service from front desk, housekeeping, bar and restaurant was excellent. The hotel is older but very well kept up.

Customer service?
Not a pleasant stay, unfriendly staff, charged for an upgrade for standard features that you would normally find in a hotel. Internet did not work very well. The food in the restaurant was bad, better off eating at one of the many local places nearby. The only nice thing about the hotel is its proximity to the beach.

great location, great staff
This was a mostly, lie at the beach and relax holiday. This part was fabulous. The room was very dimly lit, and so it was hard to read when it got dark. We have been going there since 1997 and I don't think that they have changed the menu since then! I think that they could change it up a bit. Their happy hour/entertainment section needs some work. They are losing people after happy hour, who then go out to eat. I would suggest happy hour includes some two for one appies to get people eating, plus have the entertainment start during the last half hour of happy hour. People will buy food, enjoy the music and I think that more people would stay in that lounge instead of leaving and going out for the next good deal. We went on a private tour to Capola ---great trip ---a bit pricey, but well worth it.

At the beginning of your stay, check out places to eat around your hotel and see what the specials are for the week. You can then plan your meals accordingly. Because the economy is so bad, there are great meal specials every day of the week.
