A great week in Mexico

We had three rooms and all of us enjoyed the great week at the Grand Bay Resort. The daily breakfast buffet was superb. The nearby golf was great fun. We also took advantage of a great day of fishing. The only downside was the hours I have spent on the phone with my credit card company and Wyndham resorts because the credit card I used at check-in was charged for the same charges that I paid with a different credit card at check-out. The hotel needs to pay greater attention to making sure that it is not double charging when two credit cards are used.

Weekend stay at the Wyndham

The hotel is in a great location and abovel all else is really well maintained. It's fairly common in Mexico for many once beautiful hotels to be poorly maintained but not in this case. The rooms have a good size and in general good views over the lagoon. The hotel is built on a hill-side and the use of stairs and lifts is common and therefore people with a disibility would find it challenging. Food was good and with enough amenities and activities to satisfy most tastes.

Manzanillo Resort

We went in June and it is the off season for this area, so there were very few people at the resort, which was nice for a quiet & relaxing vacation. The hotel is beautiful and our service was excellent. Grand Bay is not close to the hotel zone in Manzanillo so there isn't as much to do right there. We spent most of our time lounging by the pool. It was very hot and humid. The hotel does not sit on the ocean but more of a lagoon, so if you want to be near the ocean, this is probably not the right place. They have water taxis (for a nominal fee) that will take you across the lagoon to Barre de Navidad. There are many restaurants but during the off season, many are closed or appear to be. We would just walk in and most were open but we were the only ones there. Highly recommend Marlene's (ocean side). There is also the little town of Colima outside the grounds of the Grand Bay where you can walk to several restaurants - highly recommend the shrimp empanadas at Mary's. The hotel does offer excursions but they seemed a bit pricey but may be because of the time of year. The staff at the Grand Bay were wonderful and very attentive. We would stay there again, as well as going back to Manzanillo and trying something along the hotel zone.

Great getaway

Our stay at Grand Bay was a real treat. Everything from check-in to check-out was first class. This hotel isn´t actually in Manzanillo, it´s in a smaller little town called Barrra de Navidad, which in my opinion is cozier and more quaint. Restaurants are great, room service including alcohol is 24 hours and food prices are reasonable for the class of hotel. Definately a beautiful, peaceful getaway. The hotel´s beach is a river lagoon, which allows for kayaking and other water activities. The beach is only a 30 second, 10 peso boat ride away if you prefer the ocean. Nice to have both options.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Barra de Navidad is a 10 peso per person 30 second boat ride away and has everything from shopping to restaurants at a much more affordable rate than in the resort. Obviously everything on the resort is much higher class. Depends what you´re looking for.

peacefull accommodating and fun

We enjoy being pampered while playing like children in the pools and water slides. Yoga in the morning pool aerobic in the afternoon and restoritive yoga in the evening. The food was delighful and the special eveing activities brought the hotel guest together to build new friendships. We do a fair share of travling and have found nothing that compares to the wonderful hospitality that you provide. Last year was our first year and we couldn't wait to get back this year, and are looking forward to next year already.
