First and last

The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The pools are nice, some with great ocean views. Everything else went downhill from there! It took 4 days to finally get the ocean view room we paid extra for, although we were told each day they would move us. There was no variation to the buffets at all. It was very challenging to get reservations to the theme restaurants, days and time were limited. Generally, other than your entree at those restaurants, everything else was self-serve and the same stuff you saw at lunch. There was nothing special about any of the food served here! Beware, if you want a decent cocktail by the pool, bring money. If you're not tipping the bartender, your drinks are weak. Also, there is no drink service around the pools. We have been to Mexico many times and love it there, but this was the worst experience for service and quality we have ever encountered!

Downtown Cabo is great, lots of good clubs. Can be pricey for food and drink, but where isn't? Check out Cabo Wabo, Squid Row, Slims Elbow Room(the worlds smallest bar) and the restaurants in the marina.

DO NOT STAY HERE!

Cabo was fantastic! This however, was the most dissapointing resort ever! Dirty sheets, called numerous times to have them changed, dirty glasses in our room, the pool bartender was extremely rude, the staff was not friendly overall, did not have house-keeping for two day! Called 5 times to get clean towels, The A/C went out in the entire resort for 2 1/2 of the 6 days we were there. It was absolutely horrible. Could not get into two of the resorts restaurant because they do not have enough space! This resort was by far the worst resort we have ever stayed at. I highly recommend Cabo, but stay anywhere but the Riu Sante Fe!

Bad experience

I stayed at the Riu Santa Fe February 2-9. I had high expectations because I've seen Riu resorts before and thought they were really nice. As far as the resort goes, it was nice. The pools were big, the resort was big, and everything was clean. The pools were freezing though, it was not enjoyable to swim. And keep in mind, the weather in Cabo in February is cooler. It was around 75 during the day and a cold 60 at night. I would have liked it to have been a little warmer. We did not care for the food at all. Almost everything at the Riu was buffet and not much of anything actually served to you at the table. A few days into the trip, some items were stolen from our room. The guy at the front desk asked our room number when he called us a taxi, and coincidentally (or not), the items became missing in those 2 hours that we were gone. The management was awful. They did not seem to care about what happened. In fact, they were rude and just seemed to want to get rid of us. I would not stay here again! We travel a lot, 5-6 times a year. I've stayed in a lot of hotels, and never have I experienced theft nor the blatant disregard for customer service as I had at this hotel.

Don't do it

This hotel was horrible from the start. Our room was infested with mosquitoes and the mini-bar was not stocked. When I informed the front desk of these issues they were unsympathetic. I asked to be moved to a room that was free of mosquitoes and that had a stocked mini-bar, but the staff said there were no rooms available and that they would not restock the mini-bar until the next day. They offered to spray pesticide in the room to kill the mosquitoes. I told them that this was unacceptable and I wanted a different room. They said they had too many guests to move me, which was a flat out lie, because we were visiting during height of the swine flu panic and the hotel was totally empty. They had plenty of rooms available. I asked to be reimbursed for the 7 nights that I had pre-paid because they were not willing to provide adequate accommodations; suddenly several rooms became available for me to choose from. Regardless of what the staff tells you the water is NOT filtered. I got Montezuma's revenge and my doctor confirmed a bacterial infection in my ear from bacteria infested shower water. We had to call the front desk everyday to get clean towels and more bottled water. The food is nothing to write home about. The buffet is better than the other hotel restaurants. The Asian restaurant was nothing but a Chinese buffet and a bad one at that. We walked out and went to the regular buffet. One night the buffet was closed without notice and if you didn't have a reservation for a restaurant then you were stuck eating at the sports cafƩ which only offers sandwiches with one slice of meat and stale bread. We will not stay at another RUI hotel.

one of the worse Riu I've stayed at :(

I have stayed at 2 other Riu and loved it. In addition, my friends also stayed at Riu in Cancun and Puerto Vallarta and recommended Riu 100%. When we found Riu Santa Fe for our vacation trip with our children in Cabo, we had to book it. It had a special, kids stay and eat for free, which added to the previous positive Riu expenience. Therefore, Riu Santa Fe, we thought, was going to be another great stay at the Riu. We were so wrong. If it was not for the price, I would give it a zero to one star. When we got there, our request via email and phone calls for connecting rooms was declined. Then we realize that bldg 7 was about a 1/5 mile walk from the lobby and the rest of the hotel. There were 8 of us all together, 5 adults and 3 kids, all under 10 yrs old. Our additional request by phone and email prior to our arrival for reservations at the specialty restaurants were decline as they only do it at first come first serve with a max amt of # at the different restaurants. So for our 4 days stay there, we only got to eat at one of the restaurants, the Asian one, and it was horrible food, all salty. Then to go to Customer Service Desk in Bldg 7 was ridiculous. She did not really help me but then sent me to either the front desk, which was a 1/2 mile hike, or to my room to call to the different ppl I need to speak with. How is that Customer Service when I am standing in front of her asking her to make a local call for me because I cannot make it from my room for some reason, and she could not. I got redirected to the lobby or my room to call. Also, there was no room service. How can a all-inclusive resort not have room service? And when you are told that you can call the front desk for anything you need is not accurate at all. We called and requested water and waited and waited and waited...no water came. We called for more beer and waited and waited and waited and no beer came to get restocked. We called for more towels and waited and waited and waited and I had to go to the hallway to see if housekeeping was still around just to take it from their cart. one last thing I can remember, when I did make it to the front desk to ask for their assistance to call a local number to confirm we get picked up, the gal there asked me how come you didn't try to call from your room. More explanations to re-explain why I had to hike 1/2 mile just to stand in front of her and ask for her help to be told that it will cost me $1 in cash for the call she will make. I was not holding any money on me at that moment and told her so and asked her to charge it to my room and then she then said it was OK and called with hesitation. was that whole $1 to go directly to her? I dont get this hotel. I love the RIU but I do not recommend this one at all. It was horrible from the restaurants to location to customer service.

DONT STAY HERE - NIGHTMARE!

The Santa Fe Riu was disgusting. Horrible service - could not even get help with our bags. Poor ventilation, so there is constantly smells everywhere you go - including the bars and restaurants. Not to mention the food was slop. Not even your regular all-inclusive resort fare, this was gross. The water at the resort is no-potable, meaning you cant drink it - so they give your bottled water in your room, but only two bottles. I reserved a King Bed and got two fulls that were made up individually shoved together. My ocean view looked out onto a desert and there was a used condom in the nightstand. Overall, I would never stay there again - it was a horrible experience and although they are cheap - you will regret staying there. Check out the Palace or Westin - those are the good stuff.

Disapointed :(

we went snorkeling, whale watching, to lands end and to the marina - all of those experiences were amazing Our stay would have been much more enjoyable if we would have received the reservation we purchse through orbit, Rui insisted we purchase an additional room for our children ages 13 and 17 even though that was not the deal we made with [...]- they insisted that our children were considered adults and that we needed an extra room, and they let the burden of fixing the issue fall on us the customer, the insisted we contact [...]ourselves or better yet pay for the additonal room and take it up with [...]upon our return to the states - UNHEARD of!!! We stood our ground and eventually got our one room, but that was three hours later! Customer Service at the front desk was a joke! We will never stay at that hotel again - Incidentally we met up with family that travel from within and they had the exact reservations with children the same age and they had no problem checking in at all. We are greatful we were able to visit such a lovely place but i have to say the experience does not even compare to our stay in Cancun due to the poor customer service we received .
