Cabo RIU Santa Fe

This was our first visit to Mexico and first RIU experience. We loved it! There are a few recommendations however. 1. We used the beach for most of our time. There should be a restroom closer to the #6 bar/beach area instead of having to go to the restrooms at Torote Restaurant or near #7 bar. We don't know about other restrooms in proximity of the other pools in the resort since we pretty much stayed at the beach side. 2. The resort is very large and should have an Internet connection/printing capabilites for those wishing to print out airline boarding passes. We were told there were computers in the business center however when we went there, they had all been taken out earlier that day. That left only one computer by the customer service area and no printer. Again due to the size of the resort, set up an internet icon on a few desktops that allows for boarding pass printing only. Guests would be able to access their flight info and print boarding passes. This is a huge benefit for the guests, one that we would have been willing to pay a small fee to print them out. Not all of us have smart phones, nor wish to wait and do this at the airport, etc. 3. Alert guests of the need for early reservations for the particular "restuarants". Thursday morning, the morning after our arrival we went to make steakhouse reservations and were told they were booked through Sunday and not accepting reservations for Monday night until Saturday morning. We were there bright and early Saturday and were 3rd in line...no one in front of us made dinner reservations however we were told that the earliest they could accomodate us was the 7:45 PM seating. While the dinner menu was nice, our food was cold for the most part and we were very disappointed. This was our 40th wedding anniversary dinner. The buffets had a wonderful selection of foods and if you couldn't find something to eat, it was your own fault. The rooms were clean and the maid service terrific. The spa and gym were nice. We would highly recommend this resort in the future with the above notes.

Terrific Vacation

We had a good time staying at RIU Santa Fe. Tip - Avoid Building 7 if you have kids. This building is closest to Infinity Pool and Beach but gets really loud at night. There are pros in staying at Building 7 though. Steak House is right next to Building 7 and they are open for breakfast, so that was very convenient. Walk to Lobby and other restaurants are at least 5 - 10 minutes depending on how fast you walk. Switching rooms is not a simple process. When we requested it they asked us to check out from our room at 11 am and check in the new room at 3 pm. So for 4 hours we had no room to go to. Therefore we opted not to. Food in all the restaurants are great. We highly recommend Zashila. The Staff is great and a small tip goes a long way. We would always choose Riu properties.

Traveling during Spring Break

BEWARE- DON'T STAY HERE!!! The hotel customer service is HORRIBLE. We booked a double room under the impression that it covered two people. When we get there they tell us that the DOUBLE only covers one person and we would have to pay an additional charge for the 2nd person. For some reason no one at the front desk could tell us how much the "extra charge" would be so thinking it couldn't be more than $300 since the room total for 4 days was only around $800 we went to the room. Two days later they give us a bill for $700! A $700 extra person room charge is RIDICULOUS. Especially if we paid $800 for the room. Beyond that. The food is disgusting and left out all day. And to eat at any of the restaurant you have to stand in line every morning at 7:00am to make a reservation. The drinks are made with the worst grade of alcohol that exist and the rooms are old, not updated, moldy and we even killed four roaches. The gym is small, hot, sweaty, with no equipment and the pool/jacuzzi is not heated. Every time I went to the front desk to complain about something there were at least 2 people in front of me already complaining and the staff did not care or show any type of empathy for any of the guest. After talking and complaining to numerous people we were finally able to get the extra person charge reduced to $250 but nothing at this hotel is worth the price. I have stayed in hotels all around the world and throughout Mexico and I would NEVER recommend this place.

Cabo Family Trip 2012

This getaway was great. The Staff at the RIU is first class. You feel like you were at a top notch hotel. The only small complaint we have was with the noise in the hallway. They are completely made of tiles and when there is a group of people talking loudly you can hear everything. We solved some of that by shutting the bathroom door. It took care of most of it. Jerry the head of the entertainment crew was amazing. Funny, charming, engaging, great with all ages, especially kids. This is a trip we didn't want to end. Thank you to all those at the RIU for treating us with respect and making it fun at the same time!!!!

Check out Cabo Adventures in the marina. You can take a long walk or a water taxi. Top notch company with top notch people. Whale watching, dolphins swims, snorkeling, scuba diving and camels. They have it all and are worth checking out.

Family Vacation

We travelled with 3 families all with children. The resort is clean and food is good for an all-inclusive. Really enjoyed the Asian Restaurant. Lots of very drunk people walking around resort....did not seem very family oriented. Do not go and expect your kids to attend the kids club...no one was ever in there, it did not look very entertaining for them. Also all other all inclusives have waiters walking around pool area to serve you....this one did not... you had to get up and go to bar each time. Same thing as other resorts as far as reserving a chair in the morning, you need to get up early and put towels on chairs, however, if you put towels on chairs and leave them before 8am, they will remove your towels so you need to sit at your chair until 8am, bit of a pain but only way to guarantee chairs by pool. Gym was decent as well. We did enjoy our stay and found it to be compareable to any other all inclusive type resort.

You get what you pay for...

The property itself was very pretty and well kept. After that, it falls apart. We went for my daughters destination wedding. We had a wedding planner that could not understand or speak English. Most of the staff cannot communicate, or act as if they cannot. They do not go out of their way to help with anything, My daughter had purchased a upgrade or a room, which never appeared until day 5! It took 6 hours to get pillows. And just because the drinks are free, I would rather pay for drinks of quality, than watered down, low quality drinks. When they say "all inclusive" food and drinks may be included, but service is not!
