Would recommend Mon, Dec 21, 2015
beautiful hotel, the best buffet in the world, We just could not believe the quality and variety of the food offered. the hotel is spotless, I never went nowhere so clean. The service is fantastic, so staff always ready to serve you like if you were a king. GO and don't waste time elsewhere. The rooms are very nice, very comfortable bed, the bar in the rooms are full every day. Super clean beach and pool, we are going back in 2016 for 2 weeks this time

First stay in Cabo

Would recommend Wed, Dec 16, 2015
We enjoyed this hotel and would go back again. Nice clean room. Drinks in room but no snacks available in room. Compared to Riviera Maya I found the people and staff more laid back in a good way. Not much noticeable pressure to buy activities through the hotel, not much pressure to buy from the few beach vendors, not much pressure to do time share presentations if you can get through the airport. The food was generally good, but it seemed that in general they made the meat in too large of quantities and it sat on the buffet and dried out and got tough. There were a few specialty restaurants you had to reserve ahead for. After trying 2 of the 3 we gave up on them, finding the experience at the main buffet (Merino?) to be the best. The sand was rougher than you will find most places making a walk along the beach more difficult. This property has a good view of the rocks and bay of Cabo. It is fairly close to downtown/marina but not close enough to walk. There weren't as many people out walking on the beach as you would find say in Playa Del Carmen near the main beach areas. We had a rental car and did activities outside the hotel several days. We felt safe. The ocean can be fairly rough depending on the time of year. During our stay in early December the waves were medium size and only a few brave people swam. Definitely not safe for kids to go in the ocean. Wi-Fi is offered and I could see the network but could not figure out how to enter the password into my phone so didn't use this service.

Vacation

Would recommend Wed, Dec 16, 2015
Room service was extremely slow. Sometimes we had to call multiple times to actually get what we wanted. If you ordered a drink outside while at the pool it took forever to receive. Sometimes you wouldn't even get the drink at all. They gave us a wifi password, but the internet did not even reach to our room.

Boring location

Food was not good, zero flavor in every item. We had to go into town and eat just to survive. Would not go back.

Honeymoon

Would recommend Sun, Dec 13, 2015
We vacationed to Cabo to celebrate our honeymoon for 10 nights at the Riu Palace. Entering the Palace was amazing. The lobby has a classic feel that almost takes you back in time. Everyone was very helpful at check-in & our room was ready right away. We had a beautiful ocean view room that over-looked a fountain, El Medano restaurant/buffet, and the pool where daily activities occurred. The room was nice. It had two beds pushed together to make a king sized, so that made sleeping somewhat different. The maid always cleaned the room and the resort itself was kept very clean. The staff was fantastic and everyone was eager to please. Our drinks were never empty long and we never went hungry. Really made us grateful as they were all so kind. The views around the resort were breathtaking. We loved how many places there were to have a drink, be entertained (theater shows nightly), get away to a quiet spot, sit by the pool, and relax. Always knowing someone would be of assistance if needed. Staff also assisted in transportation to the marina, airport, etc. The food was good for an all inclusive resort. The buffett menu changed daily and there were four other restaurants you could dine at in the evening as well. Three of these required reservations. We had an in-room refrigerator which was stocked with various sodas and bottled water daily. We also had an in-room liquor dispenser. Our safe locked itself up wrong one day, and maintenance came fairly quickly to assist us without question. We also locked ourselves out of the room one day and the front staff was happy to offer us a new key after verifying we were being honest. My only complaint would be that there are several staff in and out of the hotel room daily: the maid, refrigerator refillers, towel delivery, and turn-down service. So we always felt we needed to remeber to lock our valuables in the safe every time we exited because we never knew when someone would be entering. Overall, we loved our time at the Riu. The food and drinks were good, people watching provided endless entertainment, and the staff was wonderful.

night mare

Would not recommend Sun, Dec 13, 2015
We arrived to the hotel and checked in. Went to our room to fine we did not get a ocean front view and two single beds were pushed together to make one king. We went to front desk and told the staff we paid for the ocen view and a king size bed. The staff made us wait 2 hours. Once our room we paid for in advance was ready. We went to the room to find both keys wouldn't work. We went back to the front desk were issued new keys and they still didn't work. After several attempts they sent maintance to our room. He again issued us new keys. This key issue happen the entire stay with us going back to the front desk several times. Maintance even changed the batteries the first night which didn't help. The staff at the front desk told us, if the keys are next to cell phone, camera, or if the keys got wet the key would not work. We also explained we didn't have our cell phones or camera with us. We explained to the staff that the door is the issues. We came to the room on two different occasions after being out and had ants in our room. Most of the hotel staff when advised of the issue and even telling the front desk several times never handled the situation with the ants. Besides from the key issue which was clearly the lock. maintaince decided they would change it on our departure because they once again had to let us in to retrieve our bags.

Great service

Would recommend Wed, Dec 2, 2015
Great Hotel, food was excellent, we went to the marina hired a 28 ft boat for the day to catch Marlin, no Marlin but we did catch Mahi Mahi 4 of them. I just wish the pool water at the Riu had been heated it was so cold we did not swim at all.

An Okay Thanksgiving Trip

Would recommend Mon, Nov 30, 2015
Overall the hotel itself was beautiful, you walk into the open lobby and look right out to the ocean. The room was nice as well, I was pleasantly surprised when we first walked in. The only major issue we had with the room was that the bed is pretty uncomfortable and the pillows are so flat we had to stack up like 5 just to be somewhat comfortable. Also our sheets were never changed which was kind of gross towards the end of our stay. As for the food, I have mixed reviews. They do offer a good variety of things which was nice. However, my fiance ended up getting food poisoning so I would recommend being careful on what you choose to eat. Also, you can tell they skimp on the alcohol in drinks which I was sort of expecting from what other people have told me about all inclusive resorts. We ended up taking a taxi to the nearby Walmart to get some Coronas to drink after a couple of days of drinking the resort beer. But like I said, the hotel itself and the staff were very nice. We had some issues, but overall the stay was decent.

Awesome Anniversary Trip

Would recommend Mon, Nov 23, 2015
This was my wife and my second visit to the Riu Palace to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary after coming here 5 years ago for our 10th. My brother and his wife joined us in celebrating their 5th anniversary. The Resort honored our room preference requests that were emailed in advance of our trip and the rooms were perfect. The staff was awesome and the grounds were immaculate. The buffet's were great for breakfast and lunch. We tried 2 of the ala cartel the Krystal and the Mexican which were pretty good as well. We will return again!
