Area description
The Ixtapa beach resort is a master-planned, oceanfront paradise, designed to protect the natural beauty of the environment while exposing guests to its splendor on their romantic Mexico vacation. Nearby to Capella Ixtapa is the Mexican town of Zihuatanejo. Unlike so much of Latin America, Zihuatanejo retains much of the culture of Mexico, as well as the practices and traditions dating back to the Aztec age. While Capella Ixtapa is easily reached via international airport travel, and features high-speed, state-of-the-art connections to the information society, when guests come here, we encourage them to leave it all behind, and soak in the wonder of Ixtapa.

Unforgettable Boutique Hotel

Went with my girlfriend in the last week of December 2012. Stayed in a deluxe room with an uncovered plunge pool. We are really into good food and awesome non-generic places and this met the criteria. View from the hotel is breathtaking. Staff is super-helpful. We wanted to experience the local food and they took us to local restaurants, market, arranged for a cooking class. Food is consistently very high quality. Cooked with fresh local ingredients. Makes you wanna try everything. This is an awesome and relaxing place and the staff puts a lot of effort to keep it that way. Please keep in mind that this is a pricey place, not just the rooms but food and wines is definitely European prices. But it's worth it and justified (I dont think you can run a high end boutique hotel/resort without high prices).

Skip the tour to the Ixtapa island - it's a bit of a tourist trap and certainly not as nice as the hotel. Make sure to go to the local market and try local delicacies and foods (we had goat tacos!) which were spectacular.

The only place to stay in Ixtapa

We had a great time. If you can swing it, get the penthouse. Make sure you ask for Luz, she is excellent and can arrange for anything. Also, you have to go to Las Gatas beach and ask for Franco. He has the best food and service on the island.

Magic Place!

Second time at Capela and even better than the first time. The view and location are fantastic. The only shortcomings are lack of a private beach and distance from Zihuatanejo attractions.

Fantastic Experience...

Wonderful Hotel and Staff. More staff than guests to take care of you. Great easy get away for a do nothing vacation that was in order. No need to have a car or leave the property. They are always asking if there is anything you need. Food is all made from scratch by Alex and his staff, it's all fantastic and they will make whatever you want if it isn't on the menu. Four restaurants to choose from plus room service is that's your thing. Outstanding views from every room, delightful pool(s), just no beach.

Bat Droppings, Biting Ants and Inconsistent Service

Lots of problems with this hotel. Biting ants in room upon arrival. Strong odor of cigarette smoke in mattress. Spotty and inattentive service by pool. "Private transportation" to the hotel from airport is nothing more than a taxi at twice the cost you would otherwise pay. Personal assistant messed up our itinerary by forgetting to schedule activities when requested. Bat droppings on outdoor sofa lounge cushions and on table on porch each morning. We were served one breakfast in our room and the hotel staff did not even bother to clean off the bat droppings all over the table and in the chairs. Lovely. Inexcusable and pathetic. There is NO SUCH thing as a five or six star ANYTHING in Mexico. The culture simply won't ever allow for it. We spent $5,400 in seven days at the hotel. When we arrived for our scheduled $700 spa treatment the sauna had not even been warmed up and it was 3 in the afternoon. The final insult was when we returned home and found the hotel had billed one of our cards and additional $2,500 by 'accident.'

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

This hotel purports to be a luxury, couples only, romantic get away, but you will find lost of kids and babies. If you are Mexican and have money, you can bring the kids. Wish that was in the advertising.
