not a good place to stay
i was terribly dissappointed with the Barcelo... They put us above the disco. so all i heard was music all night and when i asked to move, they told me.. no .. i asked about an upgrade and said i would pay half.. Again they said i would have to pay full price of $60 a day extra... They said they had garden view rooms available but would not give me a credit for the extra that i paid for the ocean view.. it was very difficult to communicate because the majority of the staff spoke little english.. they gave us no information about meals. times. towels . etc We had to ask other guests to get info..i have been to Ixtapa 4 times and loved it.. i will go back to Ixtapa but i will never stay at the Barcelo..

Our favourite spot!
This was our third time to the Barcelo Ixtapa-Zihuatenjeo. We keep coming back because of the excellent service from a very friendly and hospitable staff. We always reserve an ocean front room so we can hear the fantastic ocean waves at night. This year we had the Club Premium package which made our stay even more special. The Spanish Coffee at Don Quijotes is always an impressive show and great taste! The ocean and pool are the warmest we have found in Mexico. Ixtapa is not known for its night life which makes for a relaxing quiet vacation for us. And the nightly shows at the Barcelo are excellent, colourful and well presented.

Ixtapa Barcelo
Nice hotel, needs serious updating and renovation. The food was decent, but very bland. Very friendly service from staff. Good location on the beach and pool. The hotel is close to the airport (20minutes), and in walking distance of restaurants, shopping, and bar scenes. Overall it was a good vacation at the beach.

Great place to rest!
The dream when we chose this beach and hotel was resting... and we really did! We slept, ate, swam, and over again! The all-inclusive plan makes things really easier if you travel with children. Food was delicious, in a wide variety (buffet). You always found something to eat, even if you had decided not to! The only thing I didn´t like was that no replacement of soap, body lotion and so were done by the maid, so it was neccesary to call the housekeeping service. I fully suggest to choose a room with sea view. Beautiful! If possible avoid peak season, to enjoy better.

Ixtapa beach hotel
The hotel bathrooms were very outdated. The staff was helpful and the rooms clean. The setting/beach was the best feature-- We took a van tour of the area which was interesting. Many activities available--we did the water aerobics most days.

Get your own taxi at the airport--many available. Don't get the van offered--cost twice as much.

super beach and water temp.l
Hotel was nice but the food is the same each day and not the large of a selection. If you do not spend for the upgrade priemium the booze was very low shelf. The best thing going for the hotel and which will keep me going back is the beach and the always warm ocean.

It is cheaper by 50% to get a cab at the airport after clearing customs and then form the hotel back than reserving the shuttles through the various services.

Pretty Good Stay
staff at the hotel was wonderful and very nice. The pool was always very clean and the location on the beach was ideal for kids. The landscape was nice. The draw backs...first and for most the nightly entertainment was so darn loud we could never stay for the whole show. Also, it seemed to have the same feel everynight, even though it was themed. The bed mattresses really needed to be upgraded. They were very hard and uncomfortable. Daily entertainment around the pool could have been better.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
There is a typical mexican market right across the street from the hotel. It has your usual tourist type of stuff. Then there are a few higher end boutiques pluck with in walking distance. I would highly recomment taking a cab into Zih. and shopping at the shops down by the marina. Bigger, better, less expensive, and a nice atmosphere.

relaxing retreat
My husband and I stayed at the Barcelo, an all inclusive resort. The food was great and the service was excellent. Our room was nice and clean. But the bed was very hard. While we were there they were replacing matresses in our building so maybe that is no longer an issue. The pools were great! For the most part my husband and I just relaxed by the pool. We did take the combo tour through the city of Zijantenao and the countryside. We had a great tour guide and learned alot about the region and the people. We have been to Ixtapa many times and have made aqaintences with business owners there. All are so friendly and helpful!! Food in Ixtapa is very reasonable.
