Romantic getaway♥

Would recommend Mon, Aug 4, 2014
The place was clean and beautiful. Out of the way. For us it was exactly what we wanted. We have been to "all inclusive" resorts and this place had a pool adults only, breakfast only. You really need to rent a golf cart cause the location is on the other side of town. But the island is small and all the things we wanted to do and see were pretty near by. The mgr was great in telling us how to get to places an ordering food was not only delicious but fast to get there and always on time. Over all we plan to go back with family an friends. Our aniversary we spend every year and this one was special thanks Villas Cocos. Had a great time!

Money saver

Rent the golf cart. And eat where the locals eat. It wss cheap and very delicious. Go to Mocombos great sea food. Over looking the beach.

Villas Coco Resorts

Would not recommend Tue, Jan 21, 2014
Villas Coco Resort is a nice secluded hotel at the far south end of Isla Mujeres. It is actually close to nothing, not even their so called beach club. I spent a lot of money in just cab rides to downtown to reduce the value of this hotel. The positives are that the rooms are quite nice. Spacious with a whirlpool bathtub and balcony. They also provide a hamock but the one evening I tried the hamcpck the bugs ate me alive! The ride into Villas Coco actually scared me. The cab driver pulled off into what I thought was a path into the jungle. He then took a right turn onto another path. I said Senior, Where are you taking me? Sure enough there was the hotel! The staff were very helpful but the most they really could do was sell the occasional beer and call cabs. The internet never worked in my room and was spotty at best outside in the common areas. Dining was not available at this hotel. Luckly for me I knew of Maria's Kan Kin which was right across the main road for the entrance path to Villas Coco. Very nice place with good food and great views of the ocean! Since this was Jan 1 my choice of Hotels was limited to paying long at the former Avalon or Villas Coco. Even though not thrilled I enjoyed my trip to Isla Mujeres. I am not the type of person to sit in a hotel room or lounge on a chair on a vacation to Mexico! I spend very little time in a room so that is another reason for my less than rave review.

Dining

Try Maria's Kan Kin for dining!

Not for everyone

Would recommend Tue, Jan 7, 2014
Staff was super nice. Clean and EXTREMELY quiet. No dvd or flat screen and the hot tub on the roof was not filled. The continental breakfast may seen sparse to some but compared to the rest of the island's continental breakfasts it is a feast. Very nicely presented fruit plate, coffee and the dark toast will come eventually. I am a frequent visitor to Isla Mujeres and visited Christmas week which is the busiest on the island. It was nice to have quiet and no boisterous children running amok. However, the biggest concern with staying here is that it is so far removed most of the restaurants and other attractions that you really should plan on renting a golf cart for transportation. Depending on the time of year that could range from $41 -$65 per day. Taxis are available but being on the far end of the island means that you will need to plan on waiting a while for one to arrive. With gas going up - the price will be more than 70 pesos to travel to town. We did have a couple of issues with no hot water - but the staff will accommodate any problems. There was a bar on site and some really nice areas nearby (Captain Dulce's bar, beach, and museum, Hotel Graffon's small beach, snorkling area with bar and decent priced foods, Casa Los Suenos swimming area and restaurant and the southern tip of the island with phenomenal views. The ocean is visible from the rooftop terrace and some of the rooms. The pool area was very pretty and the internet worked well in the breakfast area. All of the other guests who chose this hotel were super nice people.

Entertainment hint

Nearby Casa Los Suenos great swimming area with kayaks and good food (food is a little pricey) This is a boutique hotel that is open to the public.

Clean and nice, but was hoping for more

Would recommend Mon, Apr 8, 2013
The rooms were clean and the beds supper comfortable. The showers might be the strongest on the island and never ran out of hot water. To be honest for the price it was a good deal, although the handle on my safe broke, the hotel never had bottle water even though you should have gotten 2 every day and the beach club was a good 20 minute walk away. Also it is not adults only the 1st day we checked in the pool was filled with kids. But for the price a nice place to stay.

Good for priice

Would recommend Sun, Mar 10, 2013
First of all, remember you are in Mexico. Second, remember what you paid for this place. Keeping those two things in mind, you won't be disappointed here. Overall, very clean. Small resort, set away, very quiet. Rooftop views of the east side, ocean sunrises, etc. Pool looked clean, didn't use it. Breakfast was served with fresh cut fruit including oranges, apples, pineapples, watermelon, cantaloupe, toast, coffee and orange juice all included. 2 bottles of water are included daily for use. We had all the hot water we could want for our jetted tub/shower. No issues with pressure, and the toilets could accept paper, something we take for granted in U.S., but not everywhere in Mexico is like that! Hotel had golf cart rentals for $50/day. The beach club is a great place to eat, with a beautiful sandy beach if that is your thing. It is a 10 minute walk, or they will bring you there and drop off via cart if you desire. There are several different dining options within 5 minutes walking, or you can take a $4 taxi into town, which has many more options for food, shopping, etc. Do not pass up the massage on the beach. It was one of the best I have ever had, and for $40/hr well worth it! We were on the island for a destination wedding at the Palace, an all-inclusive. After eating there and seeing what they had to offer, I feel I got a lot better deal. I would go back again.

Service is not up to standard

Would not recommend Tue, Feb 26, 2013
Quite a lot of money has been spent on developing this hotel, but it seems the money has run out and the poor staff are being charged with making it work. This is not a hotel I could recommend but before I say why, I want to acknowledge some of the strengths. The manager (Carlos) is very nice and clearly doing his best. He and co-workers do a lovely job on breakfast. Now for the concerns. Firstly, the map on the site where i booked the hotel does NOT accurately depict the location of the hotel - the hotel is actually MUCH further south on the island. As a first time visitor to Isla Mujeres I would not have chosen to stay so far south (away from the beautiful Playa Norte and all the restaurants and stores of the north point), however, I discovered the location was actually a huge blessing - where it is very quiet and close to the former Mayan temple. Secondly, my room was deficient in the following respects: - the hotel safe did not work and the manager was unable to fix it - the jacuzzi did not work - there was no hammock in the room - there was no table in the room - while there was a microwave and some cups and plates, there was no cutlery and no washing up materials - the room was barren (no artwork or decoration) - the view from the room was an ugly barren field. Also, the hotel does not have a restaurant. However, they will take you by golf cart to a nearby beach club (where hotel guests can receive 10% discount). There was also construction of some kind still going on with the hotel. While the manager was lovely and doing his best, house-keeping was passive aggressive at best. I was never given clear towels without asking. Bottom line is that this could be a great hotel, but they need to deal with the fine details first.

Attractions

Temple of Ixchel is located very close to the hotel at the southern point of the island. This is a great reason for choosing the hotel.

Never again!

Would not recommend Thu, Feb 21, 2013
The hotel is on the other side of the island, far from the main restaurants and nightlife. We were there during Carnival. Ok, it is a calm area and the hotel is new, 3 years and maybe it was pur mistake not checking correctly the map of the island. Anyway when we arrived (and it was a late check-in at 4pm) they were fixing our jacuzzi. What? When the client is about to arrive?! Not good! Besides TV were not working no channel or cable conexion. The staff was friendly but no special features to that. The pool looks fine and breakfast was a continental breakfast with fruits.

Off the beaten path

Would recommend Tue, Feb 19, 2013
This is a new, small hotel. It has a very Mexican feel, which I loved. It has a whirlpool tub, which I didn't get to use, and a screened porch, as well as a small kitchen. Breakfast is served -- a plate of fruit which is beautifully presented, coffee, toast. The only drawback is that it is on the southern part of the island, and you have to call a cab or rent a golf cart to get to the north, where all of the activity is (shopping, restaurants, beaches, etc.). We met some new friends, because the type of people who stay there seem to be more laid back and looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation. I would highly recommend this hotel .

Shopping hint

If you are shopping for souvenirs, there are a couple streets that are lined with small shops whose owners are very friendly, but not pushy like the ones in Cancun.
