Wonderful stay!
Hotel was WELL worth the little extra we spent, compared to other hotels in the main district. We prefer being away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, but be prepared to rent a golf cart or taxi - it's not really near any restaurants or stores. (considering the whole island is about 2 miles long - not really a big deal). Staff was very gracious, room was nice - great view!! All the rooms have the same ocean front view. Bathrooms were great - HUGE steam shower. Ate at the restaurant a couple if times. Very good, but would have liked a less fancy option. If you dont want the fancy menu at lunch just ask for the "snack" menu - lighter fare. Huge salt water hot tub was nice, since we didnt get the fancier room with the patio hot tub - why? When the main one is just steps from the rooms? Small beach but plenty of chairs and room for guests - a nice feature if choosing a small hotel.

Definitely rent a golf cart - it's the best way to see the island! It's easy to buzz anywhere and the hotel makes it super easy to rent one.

Great hotel if you have the money...
Overall our stay at Villa Rolandi was a good experience, although I don't know if I would choose to stay here again. Hotel staff were all excellent as was the service staff. The rooms are beyond reproach and the food was excellent...so what's the problem you ask? Well we were a bit surprised at the value for our money, It just wasn't quite there. Wine at $14 a glass, and drinks from the bar which were sub par (couldn't tell if there was any alcohol in them) from other places we've been in Mexico was really an area were it would be fairly inexpensive for the hotel to cut you a break and make you feel a little better about those hard earned dollars you were spending over there. Forced tipping at an additional 15% on the value of the menu items added greatly to an already expensive vacation package. Also for a hotel which advertises itself as a spa and wellness location, there was no real gym facilities to speak of. I have a better equipped gym in my garage than the fitness room at this 5 star location. One stationary bike, a cheap elliptical with broken electronics, and one rusting universal type machine. Mobility was another issue as there really wasn't anything within good walking distance from the hotel in terms of entertainment or interesting places to see. Although taxis to town centre were about $6 one way, renting a golf cart was the best way to go. It gave you the freedom and mobility to explore. This was an expensive option however at $55 U.S. for 9-5pm rental. How about including a hotel discount or package on golf cart rentals depending on length of stay? All in all a good 'one time' experience, only marred by the feeling that after travelling all that way we were paying near top price for everything.

If you want a wonderful place in a great location....close enough to downtown for easy access but far enough away that we felt like we had our own place to relax..... then Villa Rolandi is perfect. Relaxed, friendly, elegant resort
We just returned from a lovely and relaxing Memorial Day weekend at Villa Rolandi. It was a wonderful trip, made more so by the warm and friendly staff, the lovely rooms with gorgeous views, pretty private beach and relaxed pool, and fantastic restaurant. The hotel looks exactly like the photos you see online. Our room and bathroom were spotless, the bed comfortable. The steam shower in our suite was wonderful. The yacht service was extremely comfortable and convenient. The hotel decor is a bit eclectic and in general the resort is one of more relaxed and traditional elegance in the style of classic Mexico or European villa resorts -- this is not a slick, modern mega-resort with a cookie-cutter feeling by any stretch of the imagination. If you are looking to stay in an American hotel and eat familiar American favorites from a 300 person buffet, you might not enjoy this. If you want to experience elegant Mexico with personal attention in a small and private setting, you'll be in heaven. We loved the atmosphere and found the experience made even better by the warm and accommodating staff who were flexible with every request from special snacks by the pool (why of course you can have avocado on your nachos!) to helping arrange special trips (swimming with the whale sharks was a wonderful adventure) to recommending restaurants to visit downtown. Our only very minor complaint was that we wished the fitness room had more (and a bit more modern) equipment. It was functional and clean, but a bit limited. Overall, we had a wonderful trip, ate like kings, relaxed in the warm sun ...and can't wait to go back! Many thanks to [...] and all the others who made our trip special...

Fanstastic stay at Rolandi
The 10 days we spent at Villa Rolandi were simply fantastic. The view of the ocean is stunning, the pool and Jacuzzi were heavenly, and the hotel is just the right size for a relaxing getaway. Each staff member we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and helpful. I can't say enough about them; I felt like I was among friends. Casa Rolandi (the in-house restaurant) offers a variety of superb foods, including fresh pastas, wonderful ceviche, roasted fish, grilled meats, and dee-lish desserts. I can't wait for my next visit!!
