Honeymoon 2011
My husband and I were married in October and knew the perfect time of year to go to Huatulco was in Dec. We booked through an online broker and had no problems with customs, the flights, hotel staff or accommodations. I loved the hotel and the junior suite was great with ocean views, very friendly staff (bellboys) and great contacts for tourist adventures to Llana Grande and Bahia Tours. When going to the mountains, be sure to spray yourself with insect spray before you leave or the sand flies will bite. They appreciate if you don't use spray in the National Forest as its protected and there are a lot of butterflies and waterfalls which could be polluted. But so worth the rugged trip up the mountain!!

We stocked up on local food from the market and kept it in our room's refrigerator for snacks and light meals. There's no microwave in the junior suite so we were able to keep our extra refreshments and fruit fresh while looking out our balcony.

Las Brisas Huatulco March 2011
Nice Hotel. But it has a few issues. It's a HUGE resort built spread all over the hill. They provide golf cart rides from the lobby to the rooms, but if you are on-the-go or can't wait can't wait for the cart, you'll walk 10-15 minutes across the hill to go back to your room. Overall was pretty good. Food is good, pools, beaches and staff were good too. The only problem we had with our room was that we got something completely different to what you see advertised. Don't be fooled. All those nice 'white linen' rooms you see on the pictures are the highest suites. Our room was very average comparable to any econo lodge, and had no ocean view, contrary to the description. In retrospect, it was a bit pricey for the end result. Also, if you're trying to escape the crowds, this hotel is very crowded. This Hotel has become a charter's company favorite and it dumps loads of Canadian tourists weekly. A much better pick would be to stay at Zaashila, Barcelo, or Dreams.

Short drive from hotel
When in Huatulco, take a cab from the hotel to go to the main town (La Crucecita. A 5 minute cab ride. Even if you have an all inclusive plan, get out of the hotel and check out one of the most beautiful coastal towns you'll ever get to see. The main square is packed with amazing food, not expensive, shopping, culture, night life etc.

Pleasantly Surprised
We do not usually stay in all inclusive type hotels, preferring more local fare, but we were so very happy with this experience. It is in a beautiful setting and the staff could not have been nicer. They do not always understand English but that was part of the charm. Our room was lovely, very clean and the view of the ocean was incredible. We did not do the inclusive food portion of the hotel and that was perfect for us. We like to be selective in our meals and often just eat a late lunch and have tapas with cocktails later. So the "all you can eat" mentality was not for us and we had that choice which was perfect. We also do not take many classes, or join in group activities but found it easy to do our own thing. You can join in or not as much as you like. We saw a wonderful Mexican Fiesta night and the dancing and bands were high quality entertainment. The other nightly music was also enjoyable.

We stayed at the Brisas Beach Club and this was a wonderful choice. All rooms have lovely decks overlooking the water. We were given free continental breakfast and cocktails and tapas in the evening. These were delicious and the fresh fruit and choices for breakfast were perfect for us.

Good and Bad things!
Overall the hotel was ok, nice view of the Tangolunda Bay, nice hotel, but service wise is far from what I expected. Some employees are not very friendly, food at the restaurants is not very good for the price you pay. One of the restaurants don't take cash. When ever take a taxi from outside, because the ones at the hotel are expensive, especially going to the airport. Huatulco on the other side is beautiful, great temperature and great bays and great city, I encourage people to go, oh, and very inexpensive place.

Money-saving tip:
Short drive from hotel
Take taxis outside the hotel, and also, go to la crucecita and find a nice unexpensive restaurant to dine, not at the hotel. When leaving Huatulco, also save at least 50% by taking a taxi not in the hotel.

Trapped in "Fully Inclusive"
This hotl caters to fully inclusive groups, mainly from Canada. [...] The fully inclusive aspect meand that the restaurants are buffet style, and mediocre. Even the signature a la carte retaurants were disappointing. The arranged activities are annoying. Loud music in the main pool bar/pool area for the water aerobics, whether you want it or not !Good beaches and amenities. Rooms are adequate but uninspiring ( unlike some of the views !). Taxi ride to town, or anywhere else for that matter. If you like the "Butlins" experience - you'll enjoy it ; but hotels near the town are cheaper, but degraded, and those near the golf couse are very expensive. Great part of the coast though. Don't miss it.
