If you like Italian Cuisine, you have to eat at Mamma Mia restaurant at "La Crucecita" Dowtown. The street is Gardenia and is not expensive.

Perfect weather

Had 16 days of perfect weather. Decent golf course 5 minutes away. Staff very attentive to your needs. Food is excellent and lots of variety at each meal. Restaurants à la carte are ok but not great. Rooms are very clean but quite a bit outdated. Refreshing time has arrived. The TV in the room was replaced by one just as bad. They are due for the recycling bin.

Good Location, Not Great Food

The Barcelo Huatulco is nicely located, right on the ocean, with a great view and a lovely beach. The pool and the water amenities are very good. However, the hotel has obviously aged, and could use a new facelift and a fresh coat of paint, new tile in the rooms, etc. We booked here because it was competitively priced and the meals were included. Our first meal (lunch) was a disappointing buffet lunch. Breakfast was OK, and the Mexican night theme with the Mariachi band was well done. Overall, if you're looking for a budget / value all inclusive hotel and are not too concerned with the food or the newness of the facility, you'll be fine here.

Barcelo Huatulco Beach

Huatulco and the surrounding cities are absolutely beautiful. If you want to relax and are not a bit shopper or like to go out partying, Huatulco is not for you. The weather is constantly cloud –free and temperatures while we went were consistently 95 degrees plus. We used Grey Line Tours to pick us up from the airport and also for a tour of the bays. I would highly suggest taking this tour, specifically through Grey Line and ask for [...]. He was the best tour guide anyone would ask for. He constantly made sure we were having a good time and even took our group on a side trip to a Mezcal house to sample tequila from the region. He even took us back to the Mezcal house on the day we departed because we did not have enough money to purchase anything when we were first there. We stayed at the Barceló Huatulco Beach and at first glance, it appears wonderful. However, once you actually get there, it is a different story. The staff does not go out of their way to welcome you like other places that I have been (Cancun, Cabo San Lucas). They did not greet us with a welcome or hello…they simply asked our name and started the check-in process. We paid extra for the premium services such as higher quality liquor, use of the internet, best room, first dibs on reservations at the nice restaurants, etc. The only value to that service was internet use. I was used to Cancun where when you paid for that service you had a representative. We tried purchasing items in the gift shop and you either had to exchange money at the front desk or you had to at least have a $5 minimum charge to use a credit card while the little mom and pop shops across the street took American money. You also had to have your passport in order to exchange money-never heard of that before. We could have been told about this at check in. During the week, we only saw a waiter or waitress by the pool twice and the last time because they did not have the drink my friend wanted, they never came back. Only once during meals were we asked if we wanted something else to drink after our first one was finished and at times, we noticed that silverware that was set at places where people were sitting but had since left was re-used to set the table again. We also would sit in the lobby bar for sometimes 15 minutes before someone would ask us if we wanted a drink. The food was great and there was a lot of it and everything was pretty clean but there is something to be said when staff makes you feel like you are not welcome. I will never go to another Barceló anywhere after this experience.

Great place to lay back and relax.

We upgraded to an ocean front room and that made us premium guests of the hotel, something we did not know. The room was wonderful, fantastic view. The premium program allowed us to eat in the ala carte restaurants every night at not cost. We could use the hobie cats free and most of the other water toys. We could get premium liquor at the bars. We were very pleased. We thought the staff was friendly and helpful. The food was great. The weather was perfect. All and all, it was a terrific trip. I will definitely consider staying at another Barcelo Hotel on my next trip to Mexico.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Take a tour of the bays of Huatulco. You can take a $3.00 taxi trip to the Santa Cruz marina and get on a large boat for anywhere from $25.00 to $40.00. It is a 6 to 7 hour trip and stops to snorkel at several places. They stop for lunch for 2 hours, so you can snorkel there after you eat. You pay for your lunch at the various restaurants. It was a great trip. DO NOT BUY FROM HOTEL OR BEACH VENDORS OR YOU WILL PAY MORE. BUY AT DOCKS. THE TRIPS USUALLY LEAVE AROUND 10:00 AM.

Warmest place we've been to yet.

During our stay I became very ill. The Dr at Barcelo Huatulco provided excellent care. The 1st room we stayed in had a very hard bed with metal rods/ springs that left bruises on my body. We finally upgraded to premium status ($$$) when we found a premium room with a much more comfortable bed. The weather in Huatulco was perfect for a February vacation. We've stayed in the Dominican Republic, Playa Del Carmen, and Ixtapa and Huatulco had the warmest temperatures. 86-90F days, 68-72F eves. Other locations felt too cool in the evening or the pool would be very cold. We would definitely go back to Huatulco but might shop around for other all-inclusive resorts. The service at Barcelo was great at times but sub-standard at other times.

Feel confident and safe to use the guides on the beach for day excursions. We had heard that we could book day trips less expensively by using locals. The name [...] was mentioned and we did indeed run into him on the beach. We booked a boat trip for 14 that included beverages, fresh fruit, snorkeling, searching for dolphins and whales, and a stop on a beautiful beach.

Quiet, clean, relaxing

We did an ATV tour and a 7 bay trip, as well as a trip to the ruins. Cab fares are very reasonable, 30 pesos to get you from the Barcelo to town a few miles away. Snorkeling was ok however the clarity of the water is not nearly as good as the Caribbean and temperature is colder. The resort is very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our guide for the ruins was very informative. [...].The staff was world class. It's a great location, beautiful beach. Our trip was during the first week of December and this is a very quiet time of the year. We heard from a number of the tour guides that the last couple weeks in December are very busy.

Cabs are inexpensive and clean and it's a short time to the town where prices are better than the beach vendors.

Beautiful Barcelo Huatulco has it ALL

I love beach resorts and am fortunate to have visited many in the Caribbean, Gulf Coast, and Mexico. This is the best and I am eager to return and include my kids and grandkids. The lush scenery and grounds are beautiful plus staff, food, services and all amenities are terrific. There are plenty of wonderful things to see and do in the area, and the nearby town is charming with friendly folks and fun shopping. Do not miss a boat tour of all the lovely bays and beaches with stops for swimming and snorkeling. Anyone, any age can expect a great time here!

Restful fun vacation

Most relaxing week. Staff superb. Food was so good. Fresh fish everyday. Something for everyone. I'd stay away from the Plantion Tour. Kind of pricey for what for what you get. Don't see much of a plantation. Very long bumpy ride on primative roads up a mountain. If you do go be sure to wear a bathing suit. There is a waterfall and river you can swim in. Make sure you tour the bays by boat. Cost us $100 for four all day. This is the place to go for a veg out vacation. Quiet area & SAFE
