This building is identified with a whole period of Guadalajara's history.
The Hotel offers the most modern and updated equipments and facilities combined with a classical colonial ambient and "climate". Everything focused for the comfort and enjoyment of all our distinguished guests, assuring and warranting that it will be a trip and a meeting back with the past of this great place.
It Might be mentioned as a curious aside that there are rumors and legends about tunnels that connect Hotel Morales to the Metropolitan Cathedral (about 1/2 mi. away). The date and reasons by which these underground passages were forgotten and cancelled remain unknown. Likewise, the use they were given is a mystery but their existence does give an enigmatic touch to Hotel Morales.
The Hotel Morales is classified as Artistic Heritage and Architectonical Jewel of the city of Guadalajara. It is also under protection of the INAH (National Anthropology and History Board of Mexico).

Beautiful Hotel in a Beautiful City
I booked a night at the Hotel Morales based on the previous reviews and I was impressed beyond what I had expected. The interior courtyard is beautifully appointed in a classical Mexican style that embodies what Guadalajara is all about. The service was courteous and friendly, the only complaint I have is that the internet in my room wasn't functioning and I called the desk who said they would send someone to fix it and they never arrived. I was able to get what I needed done using the wifi in the lobby, but was disappointed that I was left hanging. A second issue that dropped this from a 5 is that the bed was not great. It was ok, and I slept well, but I just spent a few nights in a hotel with a spectacular bed and so it was a bit of a downer after falling in love with the ambiance and location of the hotel. I also tried the restaurant La Chata that was mentioned in some reviews and it is excellent. If you want classic Mexican dishes, pozole is amazing if you haven't tried it, La Chata is possibly the best around.

Great Location for downtown GDL
This is my second time staying at Hotel Morales and I forgot how thin the walls are. I was given a cornor room (right next to the elevator), where you could hear the elevator go and down, and people talking. Other then that the service was really good, clean rooms, good food, and walking distance to all historic downtown life.

Convenient location to historic area and attractions. Clean, very well maintained hotel. Large comfortable room with in room jaccuzi. Doubled paned windows keep outside hustle and bustle out. Efficient and friendly staff. Have stayed here several times, always a good experience and value. New pool and gym are a great addition.

A Week In Jalisco
The hotel is a beautiful restoration. The staff was courteous and friendly. If we needed something, it was given to us very quickly. They have a shuttle to and from the airport and the driver meets you with a sign as you exit the terminal. This is really helpful after a whole day with plane changes and security.

Great centrally located hotel with atmosphere
I found this hotel through an on-line service and booked it. It couldn't have been better! The hotel is in a converted colonial style house, with interior courtyards. Decorating is very tasteful and comfortable. The room was well lit. The breakfast buffet is a reasonable value, and the hotel is only 3 blocks from the cathedral. They have a small fitness center on the roof deck.

In Guad for a wedding
My wife and I spent 3 nights at this delightful hotel and experienced none of the negatives that some of the other reviews have complained about. Our room was an outside balcony room with a double pane glass door. There was a little street noise, but it was not awful. Plus, you have to understand that in downtown Guad, in an old hotel you will not have total silence. The staff was courteous and prompt, and the room was spotless. Yes the room has a laminate floor, but for less than $80/ night is that really a big deal? The bullfight crowd tends to be a partying bunch so you might want to check to find out when that season is in full swing if you want to avoid rowdiness. Breakfast at La Chata. Get there before 9:00 AM for little or no wait

Great hotel in Guadalajara
If you want to visit old Guadalajara (and there is a lot to see!), this location cannot be beat. You are within a walking distance to most tourist attractions, great restaurants, cafes, shops. The hotel is in an old but recently rennovated building, with very nice architectural features. Rooms are spacious and well appointed; very comfortable beds; clean bathrooms; well-working free internet (if you request a cable - wireless is not too great); TV with a reasonable selection of channels; a coffee maker in the room; you get two complementary bottles of water every day. Some rooms have only windows on the inside of the building (looking into a large but fully enclosed atrium) so you don't have any view and don't know if it is a night or a day. If this matters to you, you may want to specifically ask for a room with exterior windows (we asked and were moved on the second day). If you choose a room with exterior windows, you should expect quite a bit of noise from the street though, as the hotel is located near a busy intersection and there is a bar across the narrow street on one side of the building. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool on the third floor - nice but not heated, so the water was pretty cold in late October. The gym is basic but very little used so you can have it to yourself. The hotel has a restaurant - we only had breakfast there which was quite nice (probably the best breakfast buffet we have had in recent years for under $10). Everyone at the hotel is very friendly and helpful - we had a great stay and will choose this hotel again if we return to Guadalajara.

Short walk from hotel
There are two great restaurants within a short distance: La Chata and La Gorda. They don't take reservations and there are at times long line-ups, but they move quite quickly and the food is definitely worth the wait! Everything is super fresh and delicious, the food is nicely presented and very reasonably priced. Friendly service (very little English but great attitude!) makes for a really pleasant experience. At La Chata a dish called pozole is a must - a traditional dish (soup-like) with corn and all sorts of meats (you can choose from pork, chicken, etc.). They also have great breakfasts. At La Gorda, we would recommend enchiladas with mole (the best mole we had in Mexico!)
