Guadalaja Hilton is a Really Good Value
We were visiting a relative who just moved to Guadalajara- our first ever trip to Mexico. Super attentive staff, friendy & earnest without being pushy. Doormen and front desk personel spoke english very well. The location of this hotel is probably best suited for business travelers but we chose it because of it's proximity to our relative's residence. We took morning walks to Starbuck's, a 4 block walk along a busy street. We always felt safe but our walks were only taken during dayight hours. A convenience store was on the way to Starbucks. The room was clean, quiet and plenty big enough for the 2 of us. The king sized bed was very confortable- and our room had a really nice city view. One thing about the room stood out as stellar- the water pressure- the shower was powerful! Perhaps the only mild squawk we can muster was the bar food. We had a couple of drinks and some snacks from the bar menu- the snacks were, at best, mediocre and seemed incomplete based on the menu description. All in all, we really felt it was a very good value and our experience was consistent with the good reviews we read. One word of perspective, however- we stayed during a week when the city wasn't very busy with visitors or business travelers so the staff was probably under less pressure and more able to be attentive than they might have been during normal, busy weeks.

Money-saving tip:
Not Applicable
We were told to ask Taxi drivers to turn on their meters- they don't automatically do so, so remember to ask. This keeps them from charging too much. Our experience with the Taxi drivers was very good but we always had Spanish-speakers with us on our trips around town.

Good location but kind of pricey
The Hilton in Guadalajara is very clean, comfortable with great staff and service but it is NOT cheap. During one of the nights there I ordered a vodka tonic from the lobby bar which came out to $14 US dollars (rough conversion) which was quite shocking since I don't even pay that amount for a drink in Vegas much less for a lobby bar in Mexico!! Also, breakfast for three people came out to $70+ dollars, lunch for one person $26 dollars which is very expensive for Mexico and I wasn't really impressed with the food. You can easily walk across the street and get better quality food for alot less. Overall I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hotel just beware of the hotel drink/food prices.

Hotel is well situated in Zapopan which is a beautiful city full of great restaurants, site seeing, nightlife and very close to downtown Guadalajara for shopping other types of entertainment or tourism.

Expo Hilton Guadalajaara
I upgraded on here to recieve a few perks and oh my was it awesome! We got executive treatment. Free buffet breakfast for our floor only, wine and beer and hors d'ouevres from 6-9. Plenty of doormen speaking spanish and English who helped us at every step. They even made sure the taxi drivers didn't rip us off! There is a huge lobby, and even a few stores so you can buy the things you need such as batteries or a red bull! They also have a business center so you can fax, print, and etc. The only problem is that you have to pay an extra $15 a night for internet service. Taxis are always outside, never a wait. The spa was extremely well priced for a hotel but only 1 pedicure station. And the pool and patio closed at 10 pm which is a bummer if you'd like to be out in the fresh air since there are no balconies. I highly reccommend!!!!

Take a trip to Tlaquepaque. Very authentic and beautiful. The shopping is amazing and very ethnic. There are great decor stores, FAB upscale mexican restuarants with great prices, and indigenous Mexican street vendors!!

Personnel were very friendly and helpful
Since we did not speak Spanish, we relied completely on the staff of the hotel to recommend sites to see and restaurants to visit. Their recommendations were excellent. We asked the hotel to pick us up at airport and they arranged to have someone pick us up on time. The bar area was very pleasant with live music to listen to. There were no ice machines but the hotel supplied within minutes of our request.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
There was an outdoor shopping mall not far away with over 600 stores. Across the street was the convention center.
