Casa Alebrijes is a boutique hotel for gay men and women and friends located in the Historic Center and just two blocks from the center of the gay nightlife area that has some twenty-five gay bars and discotheques within walking distance. Guadalajara is known as the San Francisco of Mexico. The hotel has two floors with 2 suites for 1-4 persons and 7 rooms for 1 or 2 persons. The first floor has a garden patio with a fabulous fountain. The second floor has a balcony overlooking the garden patio and fountain. This late 19th century home was carefully and beautifully restored in a traditional style to provide modern conveniences while respecting the existing architecture. The 15 foot high ceilings and 2 foot thick adobe walls provide a unique hospitality experience. Relax on the balcony or garden patio and enjoy the sight and sound of the Mexican style fountain or sunbathe in the back patio. Eat your continental breakfast in the dining room while sharing experiences with other guests or at private tables on the balcony. Guadalajara has a wonderful climate all year and you will enjoy the open air areas of the hotel.
Guadalajara is regarded as the most Mexican of cities according to Frommers Mexico and The Rough Guide to Mexico, and you can easily walk to the tourist sites while enjoying the historic architecture and friendly people of this lovely city. The hotel is like an open, courtyard style Mexican home. The room comfortably fit 2 people. The hotel is not air-conditioned, which was tolerable given the climate of Guadalajara. However, there were times in the late afternoon where the overhead
fan was not quite enough. The location was in the central part of downtown and easy access to most restaurants and bars/discos. The breakfast was meager with fresh fruit. The owner was quite knowledgeable about the area, restaurants, and the gay scene.

Short walk from hotel
The museums were not especially good. Most are free. The one that did charge was a waste of time.
This is an excellent b&b for a solo gay traveler or couple. The owner lives on site and is very dedicated to making sure your stay is comfortable. The hotel is spotless, has comfortable rooms, great wifi connection, and a pleasant common area by
the fountain. The location is within walking distance to the gay area and the historic downtown, so that part was ideal. The owner (John) gave me complete overview of the bars, restaurants, and tourist attractions in the area, which was really helpful, as this was my first time in Guadalajara. Breakfast was straightforward (fruit, cereal, yogurt, toast, & coffee), and located in a common dining area on the second floor. I really liked staying here, since it felt more like a home than a hotel (however, as a guest you still have plenty of privacy). I would definitely recommend this hotel to any gay traveler!
A very inviting and nice hotel. Staff is exceptional. Owner is very knowledgable of the area, activities, places to go and great restaurants. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Hotel staff is friendly and helpful.

The hotel was beautiful - a wonderfully restored historic property. John, the host, really went out of his way to share his knowledge of restaurants, sites, etc. to really help us enjoy our first visit to Guadalajara.
