Beach diving and leafy green grounds on Cozumel
The small (50 rooms and suites), family-owned Villablanca Garden Beach hotel is a bright colonial gem surrounded by lush jungle. Villas come in one, two or three bedrooms and “superior” rooms span 650 square feet; these upgrades from standard guest rooms also have a private terrace or balcony. Beautiful setting, quiet, very accommodating, and everyone was helpful and kind. Alburto owner of the restaurant there was amazing. They have a barbeque on Sunday night which was delicious. If you like to snorkel and dive this is the place for you. It is close to everything. There is a great restaurant across the street also I like it here because it is away from all the hustle and bustle from downtown and all the people from the cruise ships. We took the Pirate Dinner Cruise which was amazing. We took the tour to Chichen Nitza which was wonderful. We took a jeep tour which was awesome. All our tour guides were wonderful. We also went to Money Bar to snorkel and to Paradise Island to swim. I can't wait to go back. Thanks so much for my wonderful dream trip to Cozumel and making it a reality. The rooms were clean and spacious and very cool. Had a swimming pool and Jacuzzi, but we were so busy we only used it a few times. Great people work here.

Nightlife tip: Long walk from hotel

Make reservations to do the Pirate Ship Dinner, take taxi downtown to Fat Tuesdays and they will give you your ticket and someone from the ship comes to get the group and the party begins. So much fun.

For the NON discriminating traveler

Pros: Location (out of town and fairly quiet, beach access) and pool, hot tub, nice size room with fridge and air condit. Great towel art from the maids. Has all the basics for enjoyable stay. Generous size tub/shower. BEST PART... ocean view and just a 15 second walk to beach across the street along with bar/rest. and snorkeling and dive shops right there. Gardens and grounds manicured and lovely. The staff try hard to follow through with requests. Cons: Maids are older and cleaning is poor (toliet and mirror, and some surfaces dirty all week, fridge was filthy and very noisy). Water in sink and shower were slightly salt water not fresh. Incentives given in online ads when booking trip were not followed through on (did not receive room upgrade was the big one for me) but somehow we got free breakfast everyday which wasn't advertised on our plan. Overall... we like it here, but we are simple people easy to please. If you expect US standards... look elsewhere.

R&R the best

Villa Blanca Garden Beach provided just that! We stayed 7/5-15/2014 and could not have asked for a better experience. We have been here before (January) but not in July so didn't really know what to expect with that being low season on the island. We requested a room on the ground floor by the restaurant and that's exactly what we had. The room was clean and stayed that way everyday with fresh bedding and towels daily. Rooms have TV (some new flat screens)and a refrigerator. I wish they had microwaves but oh well. We stock water, beer and ice ourselves and some snacks. A concern was as big as the room was would the AC keep it comfortable? Well the first night we ran the AC and ceiling fan and woke up looking for covers, kept changing the setting on the mini-split and after 3 days found a setting we agreed on. The tile floors even made your toes cold. The pool and restaurant were right out our door and the pool was refreshing, Sunday night the restaurant had a "Mexican" Bar-B-Que and it was great All you wanted, there was a huge assortment and so much we never tried it all. There is a Jacuzzi in the courtyard surrounded by beautiful gardens, we watched everyday as the crew watered, trimmed and picked up from morning until dark. The maids left the towel animals every day and we had red hibiscus flowers in the room daily. We had a car so we ventured out daily and visited around the island, ate at several great places, and met lots of interesting people. It seemed we met more first time visitors than we ever have on winter trips and that's great. We recommend Villa Blanca to everyone as it is located between town and the cruise ports. There are dive shops on site and a little beach across the street with several options for food and drink all with in easy walking distance. If your looking for a dive base or just lounging around this is a great spot to R&R.

Clean, basic, great location.

Used mostly by the scuba crowd, so it's pretty quiet - not many kids. Midway between the two big cruise ship docks, walkable to town and all amenities. Parking can be a hassle. Staff is friendly and helpful. They'll refill your water bottle at the front office if you ask, and reasonably priced fresh dinners are available if you notify them that you'll be eating there.

Nice Location, Good Value

Don't expect five-star luxury. You need to go to the all-inclusive places for that. But for what you pay here, it's a clean, comfy place away from the cruise ship crowds but easily walkable to town (20 minutes.) One oddity is the salt water showers. Takes some getting used to.

Cozumel in Spring

People are wonderful in Cozumel and it is beautiful. Left a larger and newer resort to stay for two nights prior to leaving. Although the hotel is not new, it was a clean and decent place with an older Spanish Villa "feel". Good to stay for a very brief time or if mainly sleeping and needing quick access to diver options on this area of the island. This is primarily a diver resort and some guests were very loud but the management immediately upgraded us to a small villa to make us comfortable!

Affordable and quiet - perfect for we scuba divers

This was our first time at Villa Blanca, and we will stay there again for sure. We are the type to look out for ourselves and not need/want anything fancy, so this beautiful quiet, spacious, inexpensive place was very enjoyable. I loved the look and feel of the whole place - the grounds are very pretty and peaceful. It is quiet and we made good use of the WIFI to keep in touch with folks at home. The waterfront and dive ops right across the street are great and convenient. (we dove with Scuba Mau and he is our new favorite!) There are also a couple of nice places to eat nearby. We really didn't get involved much with the Hotel except for enjoying the hot tub very much. We never got the water in our room to run hot, but that wasn't the end of the world (for some, it might be, so be warned - no hot water, and I heard other folks say the same about their room) We get a taxi right from day one, and go to the store to get what we want for breakfast, and a few lunches. The room has a fridge and tv but no coffee maker or microwave. We bought a coffee maker (17$ and worth it) and made our own breakfasts on the patio each day. (fruit, yogurt, breads, etc) The little restaurant by the pool does serve food, but it's one guy taking orders, cooking, and delivering, and for us that takes too long! So, if you like to save $, take care of yourself, and value peace and quiet and diving - I would highly recommend Villa Blanca!!

Clean and Quiet Hotel!

We loved this hotel. Location is within walking distance to many eating places, best snorkeling across the street between the Villa Blanca beach and the stingray place. Hotel was clean and very comfortable. Our only issue was the towels. They need to provide customers with new beach towels daily when you trade them in. Plus we had to go to Mega Mart and buy a coffee maker because coffee was not available until 7 am and we are early risers. I would advise having coffee available in the lobby. If you stay here do not miss eating at the La Hach across the street. We ate some of the best food here during our week long stay. This hotel is great for those that do not want to party. We loved the quiet peaceful place.

Close to town - super convenient location for diving/snorkeling - everything you need

This is a great little, "shabby-chic" hotel located about 1.5 miles south of town and directly across the hwy from great snorkeling and multiple dive operations. If diving and/or snorkeling are your main objectives, this hotel offers a terrific value. It's a "garden hotel", meaning it's not on the water (though it's just across the hwy from the water). The pier is directly across from the hotel - maybe a 1min walk (if you have to wait for traffic to pass). The grounds are absolutely beautiful & well kept. Lots of trees and grass and bushes that are teaming with birds & iguanas and other wildlife. I woke up one morning to a bright green parrot directly outside my window! The hotel offers free wifi in the common garden areas, and there is ample space with tables and chairs to sit and check email, facebook, etc while you relax. There's also a pool with many nice cushions & lounge chairs for relaxing. There is a restaurant on site, Nemo's Catch of the Day. I ate there one night when they had an all-you-can eat barbeque. Next door is a cafe and across the street (on the water) are 2 palapa bar/restaurants. Pretty much everything you need is within 1 min walking distance. It's about a 20-30' walk to town, or an $8 cab ride. Or you can rent a scooter or car & have them delivered to the hotel (the friendly front counter staff can take care of that for you). Or you can do what I did - rent a bicycle for $15/day, which is a great way to get to and from town, to the snorkeling beaches to the south (including Chankanaab which is about a 20-30' ride) and explore the rest of the island. It's actually a blast to cruise the streets of San Miguel town at night checking out the best taco places where all the locals gather. This isn't a fancy hotel/condo deal. It is well-priced, conveniently located. The staff is very accommodating and friendly, and basically everything you need is right there.

A bargain at twice the price

I have stayed in lCozumel a dozen or so times, in places like el Cozumeleno , occidental grand and allegro. The villa Blanca is a Greta deal, it,s clean, quiet and located in a good area right across the street from the water. The restaurant that is there is run by Arturo , he is not only very friendly, but his food and prices are very good, he will alter any dish to your liking. The people in the office, especially Jorge, is also very nice and accommodating. If you are looking for a clean, inexpensive hotel , this is the place. I will be back again and again.
