Ok, couples getaway

The hotel and room was great, the only real issue is the availability of food and drink. SInce it is an all inclusive, there are time constraints and location dependencies to get food and cocktails. The location and swimming was good and beaches are very nices.

Some Rooms are inhabitable and the staff tries to put guests in those first.....completely inapropri

We booked our vacation after doing a month or two of research. We definitely wanted to stay in Cozumel for the temperature and the beautiful beaches around the island. We chose Secrets based upon its name and reputation. Upon arrival, we were given our first room. When we entered the room. It smelled of must and dampness. There was incense burning to cover the smell. The couch had blood stains on it and the cushions were way too small for the couch. The light fixtures were hanging from within the holder and dust was hanging from the fixture as well. We walked immediately downstairs and requested a new room. They gave us the room across the hall. We walked in and it was the same with smell and filth. We returned to the front desk. They checked the rooms and said that they would find another room. We were exhausted and so frustrated. The third room was still like a college dorm room. Not a 4/5 star resort room. We walked down to the lobby and said that we would like a refund and we would find another hotel. A Days Inn would of been much cleaner than the rooms which we were directed to upon our arrival. The manager was alerted and she took us to another area of the hotel. We walked past many beautiful areas and updated rooms. When we arrived in the 4th room, it was exactly what we had viewed on the internet when we booked our vacation. Our room was perfect. Clean and comfortable. On our third night, we had a romantic dinner on the beach. Prior to leaving for dinner, we notified the front desk that out air conditioner was not working. This was our second call about the air conditioner. As a footnote to our lovely vacation, We had paid $20 extra to have our room decorated in a romantic setting for after dinner. When we arrived back to our room. The a/c was still not working. We called the desk. They said, yes, its broken. You can have a fan or switch rooms. Now we had a humid room that was beautifully decorated for a romantic evening. It was such a bust. We moved rooms on our last evening and were eager to vacate the Secrets resort. We met many people in our age range that were equally disappointed with Secrets in Cozumel. It seemed that young couples were fine with the resort and the lack of cleanliness. Cozumel is beautiful and worth a visit. The beaches are amazing and the temperature in December was perfect!!

Wow.. Low Expectations, but greatly Surprised

My wife and I came here for our 6 month anniversary/honeymoon and it was AMAZING. I read SO many reviews after I booked this trip, and we both went with low expectations and said we would make the best of it. When we pulled up to the resort, it was BEAUTIFUL, I love the fact that they had gates in the front with security to make sure only people that were supposed to be there were. Here are a list of things I was concerned about after reading others reviews: Check In Time: When we arrived, there was an amazing lobby, which is outside, they greet you with a glass of sparking wine and fresh moist towel to freshen up with. Fernando U and Yahaira were amazing. Fernando was always greeting me, remembering my name after only hearing it once, he is the guy to go to if you need anything and Yahaira was great with checking us in and setting all my surprises up. Total check in time took us less than 15 mins. I purchased a swim up and they gave us the option to upgrade to any other room and Fernando U. took us to each room personally and told us the difference. The first 2 desks are check in, the 3rd desk is "VIP Service", which is basically their membership sales pitch, Dena was the one I worked with, and honestly, one of the nicest people I have met. They are not pushy at.all. I went through with the pitch, it was about 90 mins, you get to see the whole resort, sister resort and my wife got a free 90 min massage out of it, but Dena was just happy that we were happy. Room: We stayed in room 4214, a BEAUTIFUL swim up. I was worried after reading the reviews that it would smell, be small, no hot water, other people swimming in our part of the pool... NONE OF THAT IS TRUE. Although the pool is connected to all the swim ups with 2 water slides to the main pool, I did not see anyone crossing onto our balcony and since you're so close, you make friends easy, so the times we did have to cross, no one really minded. The room was a nice size, but the view every morning was breathtaking. Food: Okay, we ate at all of the restaurants on the resort, except for Market Cafe, and our fav by far Bordeaux. The food portions are perfect for dinner. I read that the portions were small, but honestly, if you feel like your main entree is small, which it may be compared to what you eat at home, just order more food, it is an all inclusive. I will say that the service IS a little slow on busier nights at all the restaurants, but Jorge was our waiter at Windows for breakfast and Ociena for breakfast and he was great, always had a smile on his face and make sure we had everything we wanted. We ordered room service twice after having long days, room service on a rainy night took about an hour, and one late night snack for me took about 20 mins. The food was warm, but I wasn't expecting a 5 star meal, so it's okay. Location/Activities: The location is AMAZING. We were just a slide down from the manatee bar and from there, just a few steps (more than a few) from the beach. I loved that all of the non motorized things were included (Kayaks, canoes, even sailboats), but I definitely recommend going parasailing, it was awesome, ask for Pablo. There is a board right by the pool we were in that shows the days activities, so you always know what is going on and although we missed the fire show on the beach, the foam party was a blast. We were doing a lot of other things, so we did not get a chance to do anything listed. Staff: I cannot express how friendly the ENTIRE staff is, from the "Welcome Home" greeting when you arrive to everyone smiling the entire time you are there. I have been to many resorts, and I can honestly say that the staff at Secrets Aura were the friendliest I have ever encountered The only BAD part about our trip was that it rained most of the time we were there, so we didn't get to lay out, but we made lemonade out of lemons.

I would definitely get the swim up if possible, it was an amazing view to wake up to and I think if I did not get it, I would have been kicking myself.

Two-star resortl advertised as a five-star.

This resort did not meet my expectations of a Secrets Resort. I stayed at a few before and was very pleased. Secrets Cozumel was advertised as a five-star resort but was closer to a two-star. The pics on the internet are very deceiving. The room smelled of mildew. The bathroom fixtures were covered with soap scum. There were several areas in the bathroom with water and/or rust stains. Some issues could have easily been addressed with a simple coat of paint and a good scrubbing. The sofa and outside bed were filthy. There was very limited entertainment and the resort was much smaller that I expected . I took the trip to relax but found it difficult under the aforementioned conditions. Most of my trip was spent outside of the room. The only plus was that the staff was very friendly. Had it not been for the good company, I would have been miserable.

December getaway

Staff was very friendly. The resort was well kept and very clean. The food at the restaurants was very good, especially the French restaurant. Snorkeling in front of the resort had an easy access to the water, but not much to see. First time snorkelers might enjoy it. Dive boats pick you up at the dock in front of the resort. Prices run $80 for a 2-tank dive. Dive gear is not included in the price. The snorkeling in Akumal, (South of Playa Del Carmen), is better and diving is about the same. Overall, we had a good time. As far as a dive destination, Roatan and Bonaire have much more to offer with a lot less crowds.
