overall very nice

The grounds are very pretty. the beach is great and large, and you can find private areas to the north end. Pools are nice, family pool away from adult pool. Awesome ocean view from pool. A great value. Not a 5 star but very nice, comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly. (last year they were not quite as friendly and accomodating. The food is not the greatest but it's there if you want it - we usually will have breakfast at the buffet and have lunch and dinner out - it just more fun for us.

Awesome

Staff here are the best didn't run into ONE person that didn't greet us and not just first time they see you but ALL the time. Beds are not so good but I understand why they can't really have the plush pillow tops as it's so humid there they would capture moisture and cause mold. That's as well why no carpet...The Place is so so clean, someone is always cleaning. Beach was ok but there is a big different in the water from one side of the pier to the other, but it seems after it rain to be clear and not so murky. Food was good get reservations every night at the nice spot it's the best. Buffet was ok and there is a great selection. Rating all of the place from one to ten I would give it a 8. We had a great time in Cozumel............

worth trying out if on a budget...

Went to Melia Cozumel for 6 days in April, and on a budget. The hotel itself is spectacular only at a first glance, but that image tends to fade when you see the murky water of the beach- that they promised was clear. Now, you can get crystal clear water if you walk down the beach on the other side of the pier, in front of another hotel " El Cozumeleno". Did a lot of snorkeling and swimming on that side and the hotel staff was not rude at all for coming to their beach side. However, BEWARE of getting sucked into the "time share presentations" right as you arrive at the airport. We had the worst experience with going to one of those and then they promise to give you a good deal on certain activities and tickets and they ended up being very disorganized and not keeping their word. again BEWARE, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION. As far as the area, it seemed very safe to us, even though you might not want to wonder about outside the hotel, there were some shady areas. The food was average, we expected to see more seafood options, but NONE, and if you go to the restaurant onsite that requires reservations, the seafood costs money, loads of money. We expected the room to be cleaned everyday, and it was, just not properly cleaned, they housekeeper left a lot of dirty towels on the floor and just overall didn't look clean at all. Also, the internet service, can only be reached in the main lobby, so if you want to get it form your hotel room, not a chance, which was very annoying to us.

Spring Break Family Getaway

We stayed at the Melia Cozumel April 2-10. We had a group of 19 people. The beach made the place for us! The hotel was nice and was great if you enjoy a smaller all-inclusive. We upgraded to a Junior Suite Ocean View room. Spectacular!! Loved our room. The view of the ocean was outstanding! The beach at the resort was terrific, much better than the other beach hotel resorts nearby the Melia. Some days the water was a bit murky depending on the wind direction/current. Overall it was fine to us.The staff all seemed very friendly, hard working and accomodating. Our housekeepers were super. The food was pretty good. Dinner in the buffet ends at 11pm. It would be awesome if they would had pizza or some other type of food for those looking for a late night snack. The snack bar/grill area was a nice change at lunch instead of the buffet. Food pretty good at the grill. There are 2 sit down restaurants available for dinner. You have to get reservations early in the AM or you won't get seated. The buffet however is always available. The night life was more on the quiet side, which was okay with us but if you're looking for wild and crazy, this place isn't for you. Only cons were food at buffet could have had more variety, seemed similar most days; the beach chairs had bird droppings which was kind of gross and would have been better if washed down each day (maybe they did but hard to say because there seemed to be birds around alot); Beds could use an upgrade= not so comfy; finally the adult pool would have been better if they would open it up to families after the bar there closes. It was strictly an adult pool. Nice though for the adults. Overall though I would give the whole trip a thumbs-up!! We would stay there again!

We rented a van one day and went for a tour of the island. That was cool. Would recommend that or hiring a guide. Stop at the Jamaican/Reggae beach bar if you do this. Fun place. Also one of the road side cantinas ("beer to go") was so fun. Went downtown Cozumel one night. Always fun to do that.

Relaxing beach vacation

We loved this expansive, uncrowded beach front property. Our room right off the beach was convenient, relaxing and clean. Nothing better than waking up to such a magnificent view. The resort is just the right size to meet up with other couples or family. We enjoyed feeling safe enough to walk down the street to a nice restaurant that served delicious seafood or to take a taxi anywhere on the island including downtown for shopping and dining. I would stay at the Melia Cozumel again.

Try the Lobster House or seafood restaurant right next door which are a short quarter to half mile walk south - on the opposite side of the road. Ask Melia staff at the front door for information - they're very helpful.

Great place

The hotel is absolutely great and it does have the greatest beach, long and sandy unlike many others we have seen. There is Olympus Tour agency you can book many different tours from, but be ware of the information they provide, it is not always accurate, nothing really wrong, just is not accurate. Otherwise everything is good, food in all restaurants and snack bars, drinks and staff is very friendly.

Fourth Time to the Melia in Cozumel

Once again, my wife and I had a good experience at the Melia in Cozumel. The staff has always been very friendly and willing to help any way possible. If they do not understand you, they find someone who does, unlike our trip to Punta Cana last year. It is difficult to find such a good deal with golf included. My wife does not play, but it is worth the extra money because I make it up in 1 1/2 rounds of golf by taking my own clubs which I do not charged by the airlines to take. Two things stuck out this time. First, the bed was very firm. I don't mind it but my wife had great difficulty sleeping unless we over indulgded a bit at the swim up bar. Which is easy to do by the way. Secondly, the breakfast meals could stand to be cooked a bit more i.e. bacon not fully cooked (at least to our liking) and the scrambled eggs were able to be poured through a strainer. Other than that, the theme nights were right on point so you don't get burned out on eating the same thing day after day. Also, there are a few eateries downtown my wife and I like to visit. Authentic Mexican and Italian cuisine. The golf course is always in great shape and just down the street. a cab ride or short one mile or so walk. If you don't hit the fairway often, take plenty of experienced balls that you do not care about if it does not end up in the fairway. There are crocodiles and wild pigs in the jungle areas and ponds that line the course, so do not attempt to retrieve your ball unless it is right on the edge and even then you need to be very cautious. The animals do not bother the players, too often the players are bothering the animals and that is when someone gets hurt. We took a catamaran trip and was rewarded with some excellent snorkeling on two of the best reefs Cozumel has to offer, which from what i hear is second or third best in the world for diving. I am going to do my certification the next time I go. I was very envious of the divers below me as I was just on the top of the water. There is an adult side and a family or kid side. They are very seperate and do not get mixed up, so if you don't want ot be around children, then you will do fine in the adult pool. They have plenty of activities for the children all day long. Do not purchase the transfer tickets. You can get from the airport to your resort for $9 a person by purchasing your transfers at the airport. It is the last window to the right just before you exit the baggage claim area. There is a lot going on because there are vendors trying to sell excursions. You can get a briefing at the Melia about anything and everything there is to do on the island and on the mainland, which is just a 45 minute ferry ride to Playa del Carmen. Other than the things I metioned about the food and the room, our experience is always good and we will continue to go back. we love it there. If other resorts had the Golf Inclusion, we might even try their resorts but until then, the Melia is just fine with us.

Great value and terrific location

We stayed at the hotel for a week, and opted for the all-inclusive package. Overall, our experience was very pleasant. The hotel has a nice beach and a pier that has some of the best snorkeling on the island. They have free snorkel equipment for loan, as well as kayaks and a small sailboat. The food at the hotel is great considering the price and abundance. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and staff is very friendly. Taxi cab to town is only $7 fixed rate.

There is a rental car company called Smart Car Rentals in the center of town. There, you can rent a small convertible (VW beetle or similar) for only $30 a day including liability insurance and tax. Great for exploring the remote parts of the island.
