Scuba certification, birthday trip

Research best place in mexico to get diving certified and this was it! the Dive crew at the resort was amazing. The resort itself was beautiful and well kept. Food options were a bit repetitive and limited but good. Unfortunately it rained almost the entire time I was there but had a great time overall.

Second time there and I had an amazing time!

I am never disappointed when I stay at this hotel. It is located 10-15 minutes from the airport and just outside the Cozumel Cruise Ship Area. My room was clean and the staff was excellent. I chose this hotel to go diving and was very happy with my experience there. I saw so many things and special shout out to Dressel Divers Cozumel for taking care of me. Special thanks to Liam, Ronin, Jay, Erika and Alan. I will be returning to this hotel again!

OK if you like the All Inclusive sort of place

I stayed here because a friend wanted to go to Mexico to celebrate our milestone birthdays. I guess I just didn't like the all inclusive arrangement. While it was nice having everything paid for up front, I like to go to new restaurants, I like to explore the area I'm visiting and I'm not much for the cheesy evening entertainment. The restaurants they had were all very similar food and it was all just mediocre. When I checked in, they didn't even inform me there were activities to be booked outside the resort. I probably would have paid extra and done more if I had known. We did go for a snorkel trip with the on site dive shop and that was fun.

Not for you if you are not a diver

This hotel is perfect if you dont expect to walk into the ocean from the beach, if you dont expect a clean room, if you dont expect to have any type of good service. We started out in a room in the middle of the resort surrounded by trees, creating a room that is damp and dark and since I metioned dark - the lighting is terrible. We did upgrade our room to ocean front, but the bed was unbelievably uncomfortable. I felt like I was going to role out of it from the time I layed down and had to put a pillow under the sheet at the edge to keep from falling out of bed. The beach is lined in coral, cannot walk into the ocean from the beach without water shoes, so we spent most of our trip at the pool where there are wait staff but dont circulate around the pool, they stand at the pool bar talking to each other. In the main dining hall, expect to get your own coffee as the staff ignore you most of the time. Their steak house restaurant is their best bet. You do have to make a reservation but you are allowed to book up to 3 reservations at a time. The wait staff are very good at this restaurant and should train the rest of the resort on customer service. This was my 5th trip to Cozumel and woud not recommend this hotel, to anyone.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

If you are looking for a beach where you can walk into the ocean, you should stay at a hotel well north of the city - south of the city you are going to get into a lot of coral lined beaches.

Mildew Mildew Mildew!!!

While overall our experience was positive, we've had to wash our clothes several times to get rid of the horrible mildew smell that permeated our room. Apparently the hotel used to have only thatch roofs and used to get water damage, they've corrected it by making better roofs but the mildew smell is HORRIBLE! I think we had one of the worst rooms due to the fact we were in one of the more densely forested areas that got little to no sunlight to ever dry things out. The staff "tried" to accommodate by bringing "ozone" machines but it did little to fix the smell. Our sheets were constantly damp in the room and everything was always slightly wet. There is no fan in the bathroom which is desperately needed as would a dehumidifier. We asked to switch rooms but were told there were no other options. We do not feel that information was correct based on looking around the hotel. The staff were very kind and pleasant. One of the front desk staff (Elena I think) gave us great information about places to visit! Food was fairly good although the specialty restaurants were not that special. We visited some friends at other resorts and I think our food may have been the best I saw. We were there for the Ironman race and it was very nice how they had food early morning on race day as well as until 2am on race evening! Very thoughtful. Beach area is ok although coral lines the shore so you can only swim by the docks. If you walk just 1/3 mile north you can go in from the beach which is better. You are a bit isolated from town but they try to entertain you with shows. The "rock show" and beach show were great, other shows need some work still. We overall had a nice time but due to the horrible mildew and dampness of the rooms I'm not sure we would go back.

NIce place

We really liked staying at the Iberostar Cozume., it was a nice friendly place, good food, nice beach, clean comfy accomodations. Grounds were nice, we liked the addition of peacocks, flamingos and a few cats. Food was above average, excellent service, happy employees. THanks!

Too crowded with day pass holders

This resort sells days passes to people from cruise ships. They take up all the chairs around the pool, make the lunch buffet (only place too get lunch) crowded with no tables available, lines at bars long, and the whole resort way too crowded during the day. No fun dealing with the crowds.

Lots of great diving in the area

There are many different dive spots within a 5 minute boat ride from the resort. The nightly show the staff puts on is entertaining and changes nightly but does start a little late (9:30PM)

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

If you forget anything, you can go to "La Mega" which is similar to a Walmart to find just about anything you would need at a reasonable price. It is in the City Center so also other things in the area to spend some time.
