Off the beaten path

This hotel is a $20 round trip taxi ride from downtown, and it is rather isolated. there is one bar/grill that you can walk to. The meal hours were very good, and the food selection was adequate. Bring your own large, insulated, water bottle. We would have liked cookies or ice cream for dessert and non-spicy foods, lunch meat or peanut butter sandwiches at lunch would have been nice for the kids. Low sugar cereal (i.e. plain corn flakes or cheerios) in the morning could be added. It was very easy to get bar service. We got drinks delivered to our hammocks. There is not much entertainment on site. However, there were two guys wearing only sombreros in the ocean side pool, on our last day of our trip. I think they had too much tequila.

Barter. They usually will take half of what they offer first. Have cash. Traveler's checks did not work well, especially at the hotel. The hotel has safety deposit boxes, but we did not know this until check out.

Relaxing vacation

The Fiesta Americana was a good hotel. If you can, avoid the 1st floor rooms. We had a couple of cockroaches in our room and after showering with one, the hotel upgraded us to a casita. The casitas were great. I had read some bad reviews about the food at the hotel, but we enjoyed the food. Breakfast and lunch are pretty similar everyday, but the buffets offer so much food that what else could you ask for. They change the dinner every night for the buffet, but the restaurant upstairs had the same menu. The staff was wonderful and the drinks were plentiful. If you are laying at the beach a staff will take your drink order so no need to get up from tanning or reading your book. Great hotel for relaxing!! Also, if you would like to go to town it's a short cab ride away.

The review couples in their late 20s want to read...

My boyfriend and I specifically booked Fiesta Americana, because it used to be a dive and snorkel resort. We also wanted all-inclusive to save on alcohol/food expenses. We found that this resort does (for sure) have the best off-shore snorkeling (literally a swim from the "Money Bar" to about a 1/2 mile away - if that - back to the resort) and the best dive locations not far from the hotel via boat. The all-inclusive part was really nice, we thought there would be a lot of young people there because of this, but it was actually a nice mix of couples around our age (we made friends with 2 couples in their late 30s to 40s) up to couples in their 60s and thankfully very few kids. (Side-note: If you want to get drunk off of just a couple have their margaritas. They sure kicked my butt the first day we got there!) The buffet was normal, nothing to write home about, but not bad food at all like some of the reviews tell you. If you stick to the resort's fish dishes, the Italian restaurant, or the made to order stuff then the food is just great! Also, the rooms are pretty normal, but who stays in their room at a resort anyway? If you do, then you may as well stay at home and rent a room at the Ritz Carlton or whatever fancy hotel you may live by, and not waste your time and money going to Cozumel! Cozumel is such a beautiful and SAFE (which was so nice to find out) island. I recommend making a trip or two downtown while there also. The Ninja Turtle is great for cheap, delicious, food and BOB's really does have some big old beers that are $5 for 32 ounces of Dos Equis (great deal) and for a fancier, but still not expensive, dinner I highly recommend La Mision. Their ceviche is the best! Also, if you can make it to the other side of the island (we rented a car for the day, which I recommend) go to Playa Bonita (you can't miss it) to have the best enchiladas verdes and fish tacos you will ever have in your life, and stop by Coconuts for a drink or two for AMAZING views off the cliff overlooking the beautiful ocean!!! We had an amazing time in Cozumel! Oh and how could I forget?! Book a snorkel tour with Tiger at the Money Bar. Worth every penny and you won't regret it! (It includes snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and a great snorkel with a man who can free-dive 65 feet!)

Perfect Place for my husband and myself.

The food was very good, sometimes fabulous. The staff, especially the staff that we dealt with on a daily basis, were kind, gracious, friendly and helpful. The cleanliness of the place was almost impeccable. Snorkeling was good. The beach was all that a person needed. Two things that would have made it perfect for me would have been an exercise room and snacks(chips, candy)for my husband. We definitely will return, and we will definitely recommend it.

great location

Great location, close enough to downtown and the Dive House takes you to great diving on the south end. Drinks are great. Food isn't anything to write home about. That's why a lower hotel rating. Breakfast was OK, exept sausage available only one day for the week and no bacon at all.. Omlets cooked too fast. Went dontown for dinner.

Very Relaxing Getaway

The staff is always accommodating and very friendly. The pools are cleaned daily and watching the sunset from the beachside pool is very memorable. If you just want a place to relax and not worry about trying to impress this is the place to be. Having an onsite dive shop is very helpful and the Dive House staff is top-notch.

Second time around

Our primary goal was to become PADI certified from the Dive house that is located on the pier. Having stayed here 6 months earlier, we knew what to expect: low key comfort, excellent service, beautiful location. All our expectations where met and/or exceeded. The staff here really does go above and beyond to ensure excellent service. The Fiesta Americana in Cozumel is small, not anything like the Mega Resorts on the Mayan Riviera. We never had to wait for anything, never felt "herded" like cattle at the larger resorts. If eating is your primary interest, the food was good, but not outstanding, with alot of repeat offerings. The great thing here is the snorkeling and diving right off shore; we saw lots of beautiful creatures without having to book a tour or wait on anyone. This was our primary purpose and we felt the beautiful world below the sea was right at our fingertips! My rave here is about the Dive House...Javier R. was our instructor and he was an EXCEPTIONAL instructor and Dive master: very knowedgeable and well versed in drift diving. He showed us fish endemic to Cozumel, and things we may have not otherwise have seen! The staff at the Dive House, as well as the personell on the boats were also outstanding.
