Eco park with zip line, plus a Mayan spa on Cozumel
The recently renovated El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel is on the south side of Cozumel, just three miles from downtown San Miguel. Though cruise ships pepper the aqua horizon, the hotel is in the center of lush jungle and hosts the Babieca Dive Center on site, which leads supervised excursions to the most beautiful cave and cavern (“cenote”) diving in the world -- coral reefs, too. Fly High Adventures Eco-Park is the hotel’s new eco-park featuring six zip line platforms and six rugged trails, surrounded by jungle. A Mayan-influenced spa has a four-page menu of treatments which also are enjoyed beachside, if one prefers.
Highlights
  • Eco-park featuring six zip line platforms and six rugged trails
  • Babieca Dive Center on site
  • El Cocay Massage & Temezcal Center offers beachside massages
  • Two restaurants and two bars on site
  • Three miles from downtown San Miguel
Rooms
Rich wood and geometric modern art give the 60, recently renovated guest rooms and suites of the El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel an elegant touch. Choose from a studio room with a double bed and space-saving Murphy queen bed (or a king bed and sleeper sofa) and fully equipped kitchenette, or a one-bedroom suite which also has two beds -- one of which being the disappearing Murphy bed.

Regardless of room type, all guests rooms have individual climate control, ceiling fan, coffee maker, in-room safe, private balcony or terrace, satellite TV, an iron and ironing board and radio alarm clock.
Dining
Get romantic at the upscale La Chopa Restaurant, and browse their cultivated wine list or sip a classic pina colada. Trattoria Da Salvatore serves crisp, sizzling brick-oven pizzas. Two plasma TVs provide entertainment at the El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel’s La Chopa Oceanfront Bar, and a swim-up bar is adjacent to the Jacuzzi.
Recreation
Mayan and other presumably ancient massages, steam baths and healing treatments (the menu of services spans four pages) are dispensed at El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel’s El Cocay Massage & Temezcal Center. Or, a massage may be enjoyed beachside. A fitness center shares the spa’s space.

Great Stay

All staff are fantastic. Always greeting you by name and cheerfully handling any request. Food in the restaurant was outstanding as was the staff. Fish dishes were to die for. The snorkeling at the property is as good as any offshore location on Cozumel. The rooms are extremely large and well kept. Views from the balcony are terrific. The only downer for some is that cruise ships dock in front of the property. For us, that is a plus. Great chance to watch all the goings' on. By late afternoon the ships are gone. For the price paid, this is the best Hotel/Resort value on Cozumel by far.

Best Ever 3 star Hotel

This was our first stay here, and we could not have wished for anything more, from the check-in to check-out you are treated like family. On arrival you get a very enjoyable cocktail to welcome you to the hotel, we were actually upgraded to a delightful suite with the separate Bedroom and Living room/Kitchen free of charge although I think this might have been down to my dear wife having her 50th birthday while we were there, since it was my wife's birthday I decided to email ahead (only 1 day) to arrange for a bouquet of flowers to be in the room when we arrived, well they were there and what a beautiful bouquet it was, many thanks to the rooms manager Esther who incidentally became our good friend for life lol she also surprised my wife with an adorable birthday cake at no cost. On to the actual hotel as has been said many times the cleaners keep this place immaculate, they are forever constantly cleaning the floors, one night when we came back from town the security guy was helping move all the furniture in the lobby so they could clean the whole area. The rooms are also kept in excellent shape with the best ever pillows I have slept on.The living room area is large with 2 couches and the large flat screen tv, the kitchen area is well stocked with plates, pots and utensils along with coffee maker, blender, toaster, microwave and 4 burner stove top. The bathroom is spacious and is stocked with organic toiletories There is also a nightly turn down of your bedding with a chocolate left by your pillow, nice touch I thought, The a/c in the rooms works perfectly hardly any noise, we had a balcony inn each room and even although the cruise ships were close by they did not obstruct your view of the ocean it was actually quite nice to see them come and go every day. Although this was a suite I did check out the standard rooms and they have everything that the suite has but only confined to 1 room with 1 balcony but they are still every bit as comfortable with the same awesome view of ocean. The Restaurant is right on the ocean with awesome views, we ate there a few times and the food was terrific with reasonable prices. All the waiters are polite and corteous, special mention for Eleazer who was terrific and took great pride in his willingness to learn the english lanquage. The Beach area is man made like so many other hotels but the view of the ocean is to die for, there is plenty of sunbeds to go round, the beach is raked every morningto remove all signs of trash, the snorkeling is the best we have ever seen, with two entry points at eather side of the restaurant, there is a few hammocks to laze on and the table tennis is a nice way to try and shed some unwanted pounds, btw I could here my mp3 player very nicely unlike one of the previous poster who seeminly had a hard time with hearing his/hers. The pool is kept delightully clean with the pool guys checked and balancing the water accordingly every morning about 8am. The hot tub is also a must with it having direct access to the bar although we only ever used it once. There ia dive shop called Babieca on site and although we don't dive from what I heard it was very popular The Location is about 2.5 miles from the town square and we paid anything from 6 bucks to 8 bucks each way for the 5 min ride, no big deal really. We snorkeled at the restaurant called Paprika (5 min walk north) and the Money bar (6 bucks by taxi south) so this hotel really suited us from a snorkeling point of view. The Front Desk Staff could not do enough for you they always greeted you with a big genuine smile and were always eager to help you with any question you may have had. All in all an awesome vacation in an awesome hotel with an awesome view and awesome staff. "Hasta la vista."

Outstanding Value

It's not a five star resort along the lines of a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons, but for what we paid, it was worthy of five stars. IMHO, it is as advertised, a three star resort that should be given serious consideration considering its price. As other reviews have noted, some of the possible negatives (depends upon your point of view) that you need to prepare yourself for are: 1) Cruise ships parked in front of the hotel - the view is somewhat obscured, but simply look a little further to the Northwest and you won't see them. 2) Greater number of personnel visiting the property when several cruise ships are docked - hotel appeared to be appropriately staffed for this and did not present a significant problem. 3) No real "beach" access - there are numerous lounge chairs and hammocks throughout the property and there is a small beach in the "lagoon" area that you can access the water. Otherwise you access the water from concrete steps. Some gourmands may criticize the quality of food, but I certainly will not. Most of the dishes were very well prepared with plentiful portions. Overall, this resort/hotel was an outstanding experience. However, we were there to scuba dive and explore the culture and surrounding area. We don't typically stay at the resort our entire vacation. Since this resort is rather small (subjective opinion) and the amenities rather sparse (once again a subjective comment), I could understand someone complaining about what I would consider minor detractors.

Great Stay

The staff of this hotel go above and beyond to make sure you are having a good time. The desk personnel, waiters and waitresses and housekeepers were all very helpful and accomodating. We received a very reasonably priced upgrade to a suite, which was very comfortable for me, my wife and two children, ages 13 and 10. Air conditioning worked well and the water pressure was more than adequate. Overall a good base of operation for diving, snokeling, beach trips and dinners in town.

Great Location But "Musky"

Everyone at this resort was super nice. The only problem I have is the ac blows out "musky" air unless you kept it on "freezer point". This is not the only hotel that has the musky smell to it. I have stayed at two other places and they did as well so for me this was the best bang for my buck!

fantastic trip to Cozumel

My wife & I wanted to get to the Caribean and selected Cozumel since we had been there numerous times in the past. We have never stayed at the LaCeiba so we tried it out and were very happy we selected this hotel. The staff was very helpful and the hotel was extreemly clean. We would recommend the hotel to anyone going to Cozumel.

We love this place -just like home

This was our 22 trip to El Cid. We stay here because we love the location, staff are always great, rooms are taken care of (foam pillows for the asking), and the diving is fantastic. Food is a little pricy but the best fajitas and daiquiris in towns are just a block away in time for spectacular sunsets. We will be back next year.

Good value and staff are friendly

Stayed for 5 nights in Deluxe room with sea view. Nice view from the balcony. Sometimes there were Caribbean cruisers parking at the ports near by, but it didn't bother us. Staff were extremely friendly, and all guests were welcomed with small gift package. We were surprised that all rooms contain full kitchen sets, with cutleries and cookwares. Hotel restaurant provides basic meals, but lots of good local restaurants can be found easily within10 mins drive time. Overall, enjoyed the stay and will recommend to others.

Friendly hotel staff/mgmt! Excellent scuba diving location

A group of 8 people visit Cozumel yearly to scuba dive and always book our hotel with LaCeiba. The staff are friendly and quick to respond to requests. The convenience and combination of hotel, restaurant, hammocks, areas to relax, shore diving/snorkling, pillow choices and access to downtown either by foot or taxi make the hotel a primo location and choice!
