not worth the money

The Westin was the most over priced resort I have ever stayed at. The location is bad. The cleaning staff did not do their job. The food was sooooooo over priced. You could not eat breakfast for under 100 dollars. (5 dollars for a cup of coffee) My advise would be do your homework if traveling to Cancun and stay closer in.

Cheap

Breakfast buffet was $23 per person... $7 every time you connect to the internet.. they make up for good room rates by nickel and diming you to death! The pool area was ok - not great, pretty small pools... they have a nice large beach.

Stay away from Westin Regina

The housekeeping service was horrible. We kept our privacy sign for 2 days, on the third day when they came to service the room, it looked like they just drop off the towels and made the bed. The sheets had big stains it was not changed. The empty bottles of shampoo and the used soap was left inside of the shower, the minibar bottles was not picked up. The dust under the bed was enough to write on it. The fitness center had bikes and tredamills, no classes or personal trainer, but they still charge $10.00 a day to use the old equipment. The service on the hotel's restaurant was friendly but very slow, it would take 45 minutes ro receive a meal and in some accasions it was not cooked the way we ordered. Cancun is lovely and we planned to go back but never to this hotel.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

We recommend La Isla for shopping and dining. It's an outdoor mall with very good options on dining and high end designer stores. You can go by bus, they stop by in every hotel and it costs less than a dollar.

Dirty, Rude Service

The hotel staff, with the exception of the clerk who checked me in, were rude, unwilling to answer questions, and were quite good at ignoring me. The room itself wouldn't even compare with a Motel Six in the US. Their idea of cleaning the room was to rinse out the glass I used and put it next to the bathroom sink. The floors were disgusting.

Location suboptimal

The location is farthest from all of the activities in cancun and the marinas. More of an issue though was being far from all the restaurants and having bad to mediocre cusine in the hotel....room service meals were terrible and never showed up as ordered. There were also alot of issues with bugs mosquitos and biting flies in the room that made it extremely uncomfortable....this may be because of the location on the lagoon but I've never had this issue in cancun before. We felt eaten alive and sleeping was a problem. If you do stay here upgrading to the royal beach club with breakfast and happy hour included is worth it.

worst trip ever

i received a welcome package 3 days after i arrived, my room had an awful musty odor (so bad i had to be moved), there was never a concierge at the upgraded "cove" so they didn't find my daughters lost shoes (lost an hour after check in) until we were boarding our shuttle home(never got the shoes), my daughter wasn't allowed in the only area designated for kids because she was only 2 1/2 (even though the hotel manager said she could play as long as i stayed with her), the complimentary 2hr cocktail and snacks was actually buy one get one free and there was no food (something i paid extra for), for two days i asked a few people (including my "orbitz rep") for ideas about where to take a 2yr old (preferably to see dolphins) and they all tried to sell me excursions costing between $100-200, on the last day i decided to go to a local shopping mall and discovered an aquarium with live dolphin show (we were too late to buy tix so we missed out, i am furious that NO ONE told us about this option (probably because there was no commission for them). overall i was extremely unhappy with my trip!

i would suggest using the public buses to get around or rent a car, it is very easy to get around (only one highway back and forth) and renting a car is at little as $20/day while a cab can be $10-20 each way every time.

Think twice before choosing this hotel

Being the first time in Cancun we have all expected a spotless location when we have chosen Westin Resort & Spa. But it was totally opposite: the rooms were extremely wet, the A/C was spoiling water all over, TV did not work. We have brought all these into the personnel attention but no measures were taken. ONE POSITIVE THOUGH! [...] from Concierge - she is the best guide advisor ever. All the places she recommended were absolutely great!

The good, the bad and the ugly

bed linen had a foul smell and despite complaing, they claimed they did not have alternate room. After my daughter twittered about the bad condition, Starwood responded and we got an alternate room
