Vacation time

I went with my boyfriend and family. We had a great time. My boyfriend and I got time to relax around the pool or beach and drink all we wanted. We also went to some adventures around there. If you are looking to do any activities, you should go to the front desk and ask. They are very friendly and helpful. Everything was well and organized. I recommend this place for people who are trying to get away and just relax.

Seventh Vacation at The Royal Islander

We honeymooned here in October, 1995. The Islander had just opened and many of the pools and other common areas had not yet been completed. We have returned six times since. This visit was from 7/12-7/23/14. The location is perfect for us: relatively close to the airport, beautiful beach and grounds, away from the "party district". Villa décor is typical for tropical beach locations. Maid service and pool/grounds maintenance is excellent and continual. We found Paco's Tacos to be our favorite on-site restaurant. Tradewinds Express at the Royal Caribbean sister property adjacent to the Royal Islander is excellent and they deliver to your villa...the racks of ribs were wonderful and we ordered them three times during our stay. The on-site market offers basic food items at reasonable prices when compared with the cost and inconvenience of traveling to a Walmart or other location in Cancun. We shall return!

Almost perfect

We stayed at the Royal Islander in late May. It's away from the club scene and the guests are definitely older than your average Cancun party goer. By 9:00 pm, this resort was DEAD SOLID QUIET! The beach is exceptionally nice and the swimming conditions are updated every morning. There is also a huge pool available. The hotel has a small grocery store and 3 restaurants although we only ate at 2, both of which were very good. Being a resort that had 3 other sister resorts (The Caribbean, Sands, and the Cancun), we had access to those locations as well as their restaurants, including Captain's Cove, which was very good. It was a great place and we'd highly recommend it for those that don't care about the party scene or being close to all the shopping hub bub. Keep in mind, we went before schools let out so the "quiet factor" may change a bit during the summer. We saw MAYBE 6 kids under 12 years old during our entire stay, but the resort is definitely family friendly so I'd expect the number of kids to increase pretty dramatically during the summer. Also, do your homework before relying on the staff/concierge to give you guidance. We were given very under-estimated timelines which caused us to miss the ferry to Cozumel (although they run every hour so it really wasn't a big deal). They also will over-estimate bus fare and try to encourage you to take a taxi. The cabs are definitely quicker but they're not inexpensive either. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely go back....probably with our kids so LOOK OUT! :)

La Isla Shopping Center offers very upscale shopping (armed guards and everything!) but once you cross the bridge by the aquarium, you get into the souvenir shops and more affordable stores. We spent the day there and had a great time. We at at La Madonna which was VERY GOOD. One hint: Charge the meal to your credit card as your bank will give you a more favorable exchange rate than the restaurant will. That said, give your waiter his tip in cash. He'll get more from that versus a tip on your credit card. Good luck!

Nice hotel with great view

We stayed in a room on 7th floor with ocean view. It was very nice to sit on balcony looking and listen the ocean. The staff were all friendly and speak good English. The room was big enough for 4 people (1 king bed and two twin beds). The full kitchen equipped with everything you need for preparing a quick breakfast or late night snack (all the restaurants close at 11 pm). I didn't give a five star for comfort because the bedding was cheap (motel type - a blanket with a sheet) and felt wet. If you drive a car, be careful about the speed limit. The hotel is located in a speed trap zone (40 km short zone on a 80 km road). The police will stop foreigners asking for money. I was asked for $200 but got away with $40.

If you could spend 90 min to deal with a sales person who try to sell you hotel time share, you could save ~$300 for tickets. Ask for Brian at the hotel concierge desk. He was very good and responsible.

Had a Great time...

Food was good. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room presentation was wonderful. Only thing was that there was nowhere to get food after 10pm. It was like the resort had shut down after 10pm. It seemed this resort was for a more mature/older crowd that came there. So this is not the place to go if you're looking to party. It was a more peaceful and pleasant atmosphere.Scenery was great (right at the ocean). I did like that there shuttle buses ran every hour, so you can visit their other resorts connected eith Royal Resorts brand.

Team Trip

I booked at the Royal Islander as an incentive trip for some of my team. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities. Loved having the little grocery store on site to buy what we needed at prices which were average for the area and not horribly "resort type prices" Our suite was clean and spacious, though next time we will book both sides of the suite. We loved the beach and the food in the restaurant was great! Drinks were pricey (as expected) so we bought and mixed our own. LOVED that is was low key and not a ton of loud drunk college kids. Moving rooms on Saturday wasn't that big of a deal, The staff made it as painless as possible. We will be back!

The Cancun bus is 50 pesos. Stops right outside resort and can take you into downtown Cancun for shopping or other stuff. Just don't sit up front or watch out the windows :) They drive a tad fast.
