Secluded and spectacular, The Royal Islander is a haven of tranquility and relaxation, an exclusive hideaway offering spacious villa accommodation and five-star services.

The smallest resort in the Royal Resorts collection, The Royal Islander has an intimate ambiance, a friendly family feeling that makes it a truly special place to be. A privileged location on the highest point of Cancun island gives guests incredible views of the Caribbean, the jungle and the Nichupte lagoon. Tropical flowering shrubs attract hummingbirds, orioles and other colorful birds to the gardens.

One registered guest in each villa must be at least 25 years of age and willing to accept responsibility for the actions of all villa occupants.

Guests staying on Saturday night may need to change units. The hotel will work to avoid this scenario, but when necessary, management will work directly with guests to streamline this process.

Spend the morning on the beach or by the pool, play tennis or join in the daily activities lined up for you. Sign up for an hour's sail boating on the lagoon or try your hand at pottery painting, and of course you can also enjoy the facilities at the neighboring Royal Caribbean and Royal Mayan.

great time!

It is a great location. I have been in this hotel many times and enjoy it every single time until they turn to all inclusive. The quality of the food went down and the guests too. We know see left overs all over the place. People are wasting food because now it's all inclusive. I haven't been back since...what a pity. I use to love to spend my vacation there.

Nice hotel with great view

We stayed in a room on 7th floor with ocean view. It was very nice to sit on balcony looking and listen the ocean. The staff were all friendly and speak good English. The room was big enough for 4 people (1 king bed and two twin beds). The full kitchen equipped with everything you need for preparing a quick breakfast or late night snack (all the restaurants close at 11 pm). I didn't give a five star for comfort because the bedding was cheap (motel type - a blanket with a sheet) and felt wet. If you drive a car, be careful about the speed limit. The hotel is located in a speed trap zone (40 km short zone on a 80 km road). The police will stop foreigners asking for money. I was asked for $200 but got away with $40. If you could spend 90 min to deal with a sales person who try to sell you hotel time share, you could save ~$300 for tickets. Ask for Brian at the hotel concierge desk. He was very good and responsible.

Great Family Trip

First time to Cancun. Could not have had a better time. Everything you would expect from a resort. Food and service at hotel restaurants was great. Our room was a villa bedroom kitchen area dining table and living room w/pull down beds balcony. Staff and housekeeping were fantastic. Hope to stay at this hotel again. Had a really great time.

Family time

Our stay was good not a lot to do in this hotel for the kids. The toilet kept overflowing that was a bit of a hassle other than that the stay was just ok.

Got What We Paid For

So my wife and I were looking for an affordable last minute holiday and decided on Cancun. Neither of us knew that Cancun was built specifically for tourists and retirees - specifically Americans. We never really had any desire to go to Cancun because of the Spring Break reputation, but chose it because it was a fairly cheap vacation by the beach. And that's exactly what it was. Because Cancun, didn't exist until 40 years ago - there are no Mexicans from there which means the place has zero culture. Now this can be a good thing for some, but not so good for others. For example, I 'm from Jamaica and my wife is Haitian. So we looked forward to learning about the Mexican culture. And when we arrived, we felt like we were in Vegas/Miami. Outside of that, its just like any other beach resort. As for the property, it is old looking, with lots of old people around. Do yourself a favor and stay at one of the more modern properties - such as Royal Sands. Its much more modern and there are way more young people around. Lastly, you will be offered to sit through a timeshare sales presentation. They will try to entice you with a free excursion to Tulum but don't accept unless you actually want to buy a timeshare. Otherwise, my suggestion is to rent a car and drive yourself there. Its a much better experience, since you won't have to be subjected to their stop at some carpet factory where they will AGAIN try to sell you carpets. Notice the theme here? Anyway, overall I give the resort and trip a 3/5 rating. We got what we paid for.
