Secluded and spectacular, The Royal Islander is a haven of tranquility and relaxation, an exclusive hideaway offering spacious villa accommodation and five-star services.

The smallest resort in the Royal Resorts collection, The Royal Islander has an intimate ambiance, a friendly family feeling that makes it a truly special place to be. A privileged location on the highest point of Cancun island gives guests incredible views of the Caribbean, the jungle and the Nichupte lagoon. Tropical flowering shrubs attract hummingbirds, orioles and other colorful birds to the gardens.

One registered guest in each villa must be at least 25 years of age and willing to accept responsibility for the actions of all villa occupants.

Guests staying on Saturday night may need to change units. The hotel will work to avoid this scenario, but when necessary, management will work directly with guests to streamline this process.

Spend the morning on the beach or by the pool, play tennis or join in the daily activities lined up for you. Sign up for an hour's sail boating on the lagoon or try your hand at pottery painting, and of course you can also enjoy the facilities at the neighboring Royal Caribbean and Royal Mayan.

Great Family Stay!!!

Would recommend this place to all families: great pool, great beach, friendly people, beautiful weather, plenty to eat, supermarket on site, free wifi... Dream holiday! We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment. It has a huge balcony. Our daughter (3) slept on a matress in the living room and our son (9 months) slept in a crib that we put in the walk-in closet (perfect baby room)...

Nice hotel for vacation

The hotel beach is gorgeous, It is in a quite area, the room is remodeled with nice granite/marble floor. The only thing we were not happy is shampoo and body lotion is not provided by the hotel, the hotel staff came to our room to give those stuffs expecting to be paid, but we did not realized it. Before he came he called our room twice to make sure we were in the room, but he is quiet when we picked up the phone. The second day the phone rang again, but we did not pick it up. In general the hotel is good in location, facilities and service. I might come again next time when I am in Cancun.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The bus stop is just outside the hotel on the main street, we took R1 bus (8.5 Peso) to downtown Cancun for 30min, it will pass and stop at most of the hotels in hotel zone, which is very convenient. The restaurants in downtown are cheaper and good. From downtown there is bus to airport, Tulum and Playa Del Carmen.

Great Resort

The rooms, pool, beach and maid service were great. Sheets are changed daily. The rooms and grounds are immaculate; beautiful tropical landscaping all around. Units with kitchen have a covered open air balcony, approximately 8' x 20', with table for outdoor meals and extra chairs for relaxing and enjoying the breezes, views and sounds of the surf. It is nice that you can take the Resort's free shuttle bus at scheduled times to and from the sister resorts to take advantage of their restaurants, pools, etc, too. This resort compares favorably with our time share in Hawaii.

Shopping tip: Not Applicable

The Resort Market has basic staples for breakfast, lunch and snacks, soft drinks, beer and wine/liquor, but if you are planning on cooking all meals, including dinners, in your room's kitchen all week, you'll likely want to take the 25 minute ride on the R-2 "Peso Bus" to WalMart for meat, including lunch meats and cheese, which were fairly high priced in the resort market.

good value family hotel

Generally good, room was clean, a little but dated. We had a 1 bedroom suite, clean, good view. Pool was clean and warm. Close to beach. Beach was red flag all week, but still able to go in, for good swimmers. pool bar was good, drinks were good, and priced well

Family friendly

Cleanest hotel we've been to. Just consider for a family of five we spent about $150 a day on food, and we aren't heavy drinkers. Wish it was all inclusive. The food was great though. Lots to do, entertainment staff funny and wanting to get people involved. Have never been around more friendly staff, and ALWAYS cleaning! If this is your first trip to cancun, avoid the "salesmen" at the airport! Deal directly with the excursion dept. at your resort! Cheaper to buy at the resort than online. Enjoy, we did!

Nice Beach

Overall it's a nice hotel. It has two pools and a really nice beach. The rooms are very nice and the one I stayed in had its own small balcony. It is mainly visited by older couples and doesn't have a fun atmosphere. Also the food seemed pretty expensive (breakfast buffet was $15 per person and was said to be cheap).

Great stay

Just returned from a week at Royal Islander. Accommodations were great--functional, not opulent. We stayed in a one bedroom suite which included a full kitchen and made a number of meals there. They have lots of activities and dining options on premises at the Royal Islander and its sister properties, Royal Mayan and Royal Caribbean. We took yoga classes several times and the intro Spanish language class. We decided to make use of the loaner bikes they offered to ride up toward town, but found it very slow going. There were sidewalks the whole way, but many stretches didn't have ramps on the curbs, which required some creativity. The staff at Royal Islander were universally friendly, never pushy or trying to sell you anything. A very enjoyable stay.

We saw lots of people at the hotel taking taxi's to get places. The city buses are clean, safe, run frequently and cost about $0.75 each way. If you're lucky, you'll be treated to a guitar playing pan-flautist leading the passengers in a rousing rendition of La Bomba. (I'm guessing the locals find this a bit tiresome, but was fun nonetheless)

Very poor customer service

The hotel has this thing of changing rooms on Saturday. This was ok but they claimed they will send a maid for us to change our room but on the other hand no maid arrived and we had to go to the office and wait for over half an hour to change it. This was extremely annoying and put a huge damper on our trip. It could have been better organized.
