bad trip

The Hotel was great but [...] did not discribe the correct info when i booked and paid for my trip. We had to pay $140.00 more USD for the room. We also spent a whole day dealing with the rental we booked on [...]. They did not have a car that worked and were not available till the next day. We lost a whole day and were forced to take a cab ride the next day to another car rental place and rent a car that cost us $556.00 usd for 4 day. This was a disaster!!!!

Fantastic Trip

We stayed at the Club level. Totally worth the extra money. The staff everywhere in the hotel were engaging and accommodating. The food on the club level was fantastic. They had 5 presentations - enough to keep us stuffed the entire trip. We were planning on going out to dinner each night but only did so once (we weren't even hungry for that eventure). Elected not to leave the hotel for most of the 5 day trip. Would absolutely go back!

Front Desk Manager

The Hotel is lovely...and YES the rooms are a bit tired. To make the point; the hotel air vents that shares cool air is also connected to each room as we found. - As our neighbor started smoking cigarettes at midnight for a couple hours. The Smoke ended up in our room all night. The second night was a too much...he smoked CIGARS from around 12:30 to 2 in the morning. This left us gasping for air and no sleep for a second night. The kicker was the Front Desk Manager. When we explained the issue and that we had notified the front desk the day before; he told us we are departing today and we paid our booking throught Obz.I explained again that it the cigar smoke that was the issue and why was he addressing Obz? I asked what does that mean? He said, Obz has not paid us for the room yet. In my shock and confusion I asked him call his Manager. After explaining what her manager did, in front of of the man, he turned his nose up and refused to answer questions. So, Obz, I think you need to find out if your clients are being respected, as we obviously were not due to being an Obz customer in the RITZ CARLTON IN CANCUN.

Not bad if you didn't want a beach

The hotel is located on the beach in Cancun, however for 5 of the 7 days we stayed there the beach was closed due to construction of a new beachfront. We were told on our second day at the hotel that the beach was going to be closed 'temporarily' due to the need for a public works project that was restoring sand washed out by a hurricane in October. The implication was that the beach would be available again very soon and that the hotel would do everything in their power to ensure that the closure would be short. As the days dragged on and the sounds of construction equipment kept up both day and night we realized that we had been misled. It was difficult to get any sleep due to the 24/7 construction activity and the lack of beach access was a tremendous disappointment to us. The hotel did comp two nights at check-out, but we had to force the issue to get the credit. [...]

Ritz-Carlton Cancun, MX

While the hotel is not for the budget minded...the service that you receive is impecable. Fantino's restarant was well presented, and the food was good, but not excellent. However, I can not say enough good things about the Viking Culinary Arts studio and Chef Rory...he was great. The techniques taught and the simplicity of the recipes make this something that anyone should be able to take to their table and impress friends and family. The Spa was nice, but would recommend others in the Cancun area. The beach was beautiful, although a little sparse...but that should be fixed in a couple of weeks as a result of the hurricane taking most of the sand out to sea. All in service and Viking cooking school are great...

No risk choice

It's hard to go wrong with the Ritz, it was first class service and amenitites all the way. Although the room was clean and well appointed, it was just a typical hotel room with a reasonable ocean view. the balcony really wasn't something you would enjoy spending much time on due to the size and lack of privacy.

A few minor disappointments...

Excellent restraunt puerto madera across the street. Ask cabbie price first while doorman is there to know price to location or you could pay more. Cold shower/bath water but turned the gas on higher and fixed. Cold hot tub got a little warmer when we complained but we were there during the onset of IDA and so the weather was crummy and cold rain water cooling off hot tub.

Nice and Clean

The hotel was very highly rated by many. Friends who were staying at the Melia were jealous. We were a bit disappointed by the lack of ambience and people at the hotel. It seemed a bit deserted with not too many activities for the kids. Another drawback was the extra $60/person per day that they tried to charge for someone over 12 yrs old in a 4 person room. Overall, the hotel was very clean and comfortable and was kept up very nicely but in the future, we may opt to stay at a hotel with more ambience and things to do.

Honeymoon #2

Beautiful hotel that we had a great time at, beautiful location. The interior and exterior is immaculately kept, and I think every room has a gorgeous view of the outdoors. The bad: the food. Not bad, but not fantastic, and at the prices that are paid for everything here, we were disappointed that the food wasn't better. Specifics: Fantino -- excellent food. Not the best we've ever had, but really very good. The Parmesan soup was amazing. Bad: Sushi and Ceviche Bar. For $110 it was some of the most average tasting sushi I've ever had. Absolutely, absolutely overrated. Casitas -- dry food, with a few good picks, but overall not a great experience. Saxophone player was amazing though... he made my tuna steak go down easier. We were part of Aquamarine tours and had a good time. Good value for what we did (Skyrider and Jungle Tour). Great vacation, but (?needless to say, or not?) wasn't like Honeymoon #1!
