Great Vacation
My family and I stayed at the riu palace for 3nights and 4 days and we enjoyed this hotel best. it had alot of friendly people and even staff were nice. You dont have to only stay inside the hotel as outside there are alot of shopping places and its not too pricey . All together this trip was great , it could of been better if everything was avalible for you right on the beach such as things like banana boat or a jungle tour but besides that it was ok.

The perfect get-away
The food was excellent and the staff was always courteous and polite. If you want to dine in their restaurants, you need to make reservations as soon as you arrive, but it is worth it. The restaurants seat only about 25 tables or so and the service is great. There are several bars around the facility that you can get whatever you want from. They even bring you drinks on the beach. The room and facilities were kept extremely clean. Not a whole lot you can do about the humidity, but it kept things very "clamy" in the room. The matress was very firm and it would have been nicer if it were a little more comfortable. One thing I would change is the constant barage of peddlers on the beach. From jewlery to clothes to hair braiding, etc. I wanted to stick a sign that said "no than you" on my forehead. Overall we really enjoyed this vacation and would definitely come back again. I found it to be more economical than a cruise and more relaxing.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
Across from the hotel is an internet cafe where you can make call for 20 cents a min instead of paying ridiculous money for phone cards.

great week
when we first entered the RIU Palace there was a horrible smell in the lobby . We then checked into our room and again that smell was so strong we couldn't stay there . They had no rooms for us until the next day . The restaurants were good and bar service was Great.I felt the drinks were very watered down we had to ask for a side shot to our drinks . The entertainment staff was great and the shows were very good. i probably wouldn't good back to that hotel . I have to Cancun many times . This was not one of favorite

Pampered like a Queen
Our stay at the RIU Palace was fabulous! Everything was as wonderful as I'd hoped it would be & more... This hotel is GRAND in so many ways... Beautiful, clean, top notch service, food was good overall, the water is gorgeous!! Everyone is friendly & courteous...The weather was sunny & nice the entire week we were there, so we mainly enjoyed the pool & the beach & totally relaxed... We did visit some of the markets for souvenirs & we took a day trip to Chichen Itza & had an amazing time... Highly recommend it, but maybe during March/April or Oct. Very HOT in Aug. & we are from FL & use to the heat... You'll spend a minimum of two hrs. walking around the ruins & then you'll want to enjoy the lovely lunch that they have at the restaurant there. The only weak link... we felt the entertainment at the hotel could have been better... We enjoyed three of the shows... Wonderful vacation~

Beautiful! Like a Gold Ring..on the Snout of a Pig!
As I first beheld the outside of the marvelous-looking Riu Palace Las Americas, the cab driver told me, '"We call this the Church, because everyone seeing it for the first time says, "Oh My God!"' I laughed. then he quickly added, "Also, because when they are leaving, they look at the bill and say, "Jesus Christ!"' I laughed a heartier laugh, ignoring the possible truth behind those ominous words. Now let me be clear: I did not wind up paying more than the all-inclusive package price I got via Orbitz. But I did get less than what I bargained for. #1. On my first night of stay, I got a shard of glass in my big toe, because the bathroom floor hadn't been properly cleaned, and there was no first aid kit available. I was told I needed to wait until morning. #2. On my second day of stay the air conditioning went completely out that afternoon. A maintenance guy I saw in the hall told me this problem was affecting the whole wing of the complex. I took him to the front desk so he could repeat this as I complained. (I was a sweaty mess...an hour after showering, and dressing to go to my son's pre-wedding dinner.) the manager at the desk joked that I "must sweat a lot." When he noticed I failed to get his humor, he said they'd have the problem fixed within a few hours. I asked if the hotel planned to please adjust my bill. and then the manager laughed, as if I was joking. #3. On the fourth and final day of my stay, I left my room to have breakfast with other members of my family and the bridal party (this whole visit was about my son's wedding at the hotel). When I returned, I went to re-charge my cell phone, and the combination charger/usb adapter for the phone...had VANISHED from the wall socket by my bed...where I had it plugged in from the night of my arrival. (No..it was NOWHERE on the floor, under the bed or whatever.) It had clearly been stolen. I should have followed the night clerk's admonishment, as she handed me the key to the room safe, to keep my "valuables in there." Well..I kept my Passport, Credit Cards and Cash there..but who'd have guessed...I mean, a $25.OO phone charger? Ah well, chalk it up to underpaid help, I guess. In fairness...I know of no other people of the 16 of us reported theft, I just know I got hit. But...2 others reported loss of air conditioning...with NO REFUND of any kind offered. So..there's a my honest report. This was my first visit to beautiful Cancun, and I managed to have a great time with my family and friends in this lovely city. But I will never...EVER...stay at the Riu Palace, nor any hotel associated with it again. I wish that I'd read a review like this one before I booked my stay there. The folks running this ornate "Riu Palace Las Americas" have the attitude like, "Hey..have fun but don't complain! You're lucky we let you stay here!" I don't think that's a winning attitude for those in any service industry. That's why this Proverb from the Bible comes to mind: "As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion."
