Okay if you're into buffets

The reservations for restaurants could only be done 1 or 2 days ahead. So you're stuck on the first day with whatever you can find, and you can't plan your whole week at once either. There's not a log of late-night options. There was a 24-hour sports bar, but the food there was pretty bad. The buffet was hit-and-miss, sometimes I could find a few good things to eat, but a lot of it was dry or stale. The nicer restaurants were a bit better, but most of those included buffet food also. The room and hallways upstairs had musty smells, likely due to the humidity. The furniture in the room didn't look good, most of it was painted with just one coat or no primer, so the plywood showed through. The service was very good, almost too good. It gets to the point where it seems they are trying too hard. Some things I didn't find at the hotel: No outdoor jacuzzi. There was a jetted tub right in the middle of the suite, but nothing outside by the pool. No snack bar outside by the pool, have to dry off, and go inside to find something to eat.

beautiful!

Me and my girlfriend just came back from our six day vacation there and stayed in the junior suite jacuzzi villas with terrace. The room was nice, thought the paint on the walls could have used a dark grey instead of flat white , makes its look a little cheaper. you could also see some rust spots on the metallic accents around the room due to the humidity of course. Besides that room was comfy with great water pressure in the showers and a private terrace with beautiful views of the resort and beach(the water looks so amazing you'd swear it was photo-shopped) Food was good for the most part, a lot of hit or misses and the restaurants that you need to make a reservation for. also my girlfriend got food poisoning from the room service food so avoid the cold cuts or sandwiches to be on safe side. Buffets are usually the best option but its very subjective, Entertainment was ok some nights but better if you hit a club in the evening. overall a great value if you love to eat, drink and get tanned!

One of the best places in Cancun

Stayed there with my wife for 9 days. The Hotel is amazing! The best part was the swim up pool, where you can stay for hours on end meeting new people while sipping on a cocktail.

Honeymoon

My wife and I had a wonderful time celebrating our honeymoon and my birthday at this wonderful hotel. The view and the food was wonderful. The entertainment was pretty good especially the Mike Jackson night and the Mayan night. The Pros 1. They made us feel welcomed and at home. Waiting on us was a bottle of Champagne and Strawberries 2. For my birthday they gave me a bottle of Tequila 3. The food was great we ate at the Asian and also Crystal places but the buffet was very good. 4. The pools were very nice especially the VIP pool 5. The majority of the staff went above and beyond 6. Max our waiter at the buffet after the first night we sought him out for our waiter. He was by far the best worker there. Super friendly. He made us feel welcomed and he went above and beyond what was required. He is professional and is one of the many reasons why I want to go back. 7. Most of the maids that cleaned our room did a good job and made cats out of towels very romantic 8. The bartender that worked in the lobby at 5pm onward He was friendly above and beyond and knew his stuff Now for the cons 1. The bathroom in our Villa echoed not very romantic lol 2. The bathroom did not have freshener 3. The room smelled musty once again I know it is on the beach but air freshener would go a long way 4. A few days the maid seem not to clean our room well we called and complained they sent someone up to clean our bathroom 5. The majority of the bartenders near the pool. Many seemed unhappy and didnt know how to make anything but basic drinks. 6. Room service we used it once, the food was horrible, and it took around 40 mins to even arrive. The hotel really needs to vamp up their menu and quality in this area. 7. We were not told about alot of the extras in the hotel. Like the spa, the place you can learn to paint we discovered that by accident 8. The VIP pool needs a person to get food and drinks for the people Besides that I could not have asked for a better vacation. I really enjoyed it and plan on going back. Beautiful beaches, pools and the grounds are well maintained

Summer vacation

The hotel is very nice outside, but inside is a little bit disappointed. The materials used are not quite good in another word it is cheap. some rooms the A/C is not quite cold enough and very humid. Foods are OK. After 10pm there is no restaurant open except the sport bar with frozen hamburger and hot dog. Overall the Hotel is very good.

OK Food, Great Pools, Awful Entertainment and Fron Desk Staff, Do VIP or do not go

This was my first all inclusive so I was not sure what to expect. Overall I have to say I enjoy it however the hotel really did not offer anything in regards to entertainment or things to do (outside of drinking and eating). Luckily we chose to upgrade to the VIP so we had a hot tub in our room and jacuzzi on the deck. If you choose this hotel you have to do VIP or do not bother going. For 30 dollars more you get your own private pool with cabana, Hot Tub, Jacuzzi and PRIVATE restaurant that is the best on resort. Not kidding, do not bother going here unless you do VIP. We are a couple in our mid twenties so we were looking for great pools, fun entertainment and things to do each night. Although the bartending staff and drink staff were great (hands down the most attentive service I have ever gotten), the front desk staff and concierge were just as bad. They spoke only broken english, caused us to miss our shuttle to the airport and even charged us 20 pesos to make a local phone call so we can schedule another shuttle. Again though I do have to say the dining room staff and drink staff are amazing and do not get paid enough for what they do (please please tip). Unfortunately though once the pools close at night (7pm or 8pm) there is nothing to do. They have one piano bar and a outside bar along the water but there is no music, shows, etc. You have to go off site to Senior Frogs, Cabo Cabo etc for anything to do at night. The food was good I do have to say. I have been on 6 cruises (Royal, Carnival, Norwegian) and the food was about on par to that. There are five restaurants, however the best one is just for VIPs. The restaurants are only open for dinner and require 2 days booking (even if there are opening they make you book two days in advance). If you choose not to do VIP stay away from the steakhouse. It is glorified buffet. The Italian is good and Mexican is good, Fusion was ok and we did not try the Japanese. Buffet for breakfast and lunch is good however it gets old after four days (same thing every day). Again though the wait staff is great. All speak decent english and extremely nice. One thing that did surprise us is that everyone there is from Spain, Venezuela, Argentina or Portugal. I guess RIU has a lot of business relationships with major corporations in different spanish speaking regions so they use this as company gifts or bonuses. We only ran into three other English speaking couples the entire time all of whom were from London. That being said if you do not speak spanish you will be perfectly fine. Everyone speaking english or can at least understand and communicate with you. I would also highly recommend taking USA Transfer to get from and to the airport. The company is run by a American and Canadian couple. Extremely helpful and great staff. Only 50 dollars round trip, private service (avoid those huge buses that pack you in like sardines). There is a parasailing place 200 yards down the street which is great and a few dinner cruises (and drinking cruises) around the same distance for about 50 dollars a person. The hotel also offers kayaking and snoring for free. The jet skis are around 60 dollars a person for 30 minutes. Overall though the hotel was good. I would not go back but we did have a good time. Very laid back and relaxing vacation.

Riu palace peninsula

Definitely worth every penny spent. the all inclusive is the way to go! We loved our stay at the Riu Palace Peninsula!!! We wish we could have stayed longer. Although the location isn't the ideal place for the mile view of perfect blue water because of the seaweed, we saw the workers raking up seaweed that's been washed along the shoreline every morning. Whether you're laying poolside wanting to relax, the entertainment crew always made staying poolside fun. They always got us involved in the daily activities like water aerobics, dance lessons, Spanish lessons, poolside games. The waiters by the pool always made sure we had a drink in hand. Nightly entertainment kept us up everyday til 2am. If you're traveling with kids, there's a crew that keeps them busy playing games on the beach or doing arts and crafts. The food was awesome!!!!! I would definitely recommend this hotel !!!!

Entertainment

Entertainment is not at its best. Only one guy was doing his job with full effort, others were just checking the time if it is time to take off from work. But the location, the peninsula shape of the hotel makes you relax enough not to make a big deal of any stuff. Overall it is a very good hotel. Everybody should try the a-la carte restaurants, the best and best are there.

Could have been better

Nice Hotel, but the noise level was excessive. Spent extra for the adults only area, but a group of loud adults was worse than crying children. Called to report the loud group, but security did nothing.
