Vacation

Loved the location! This Hotel has it's own beach and is small enough to get some relaxing in. Unfortunately, The staff is very slow responding and the WIFI was down the entire time. We still had a wonderful time. There is plenty to do near the hotel.

Nice, small, older Hotel, slow/no service

We just stayed one on night for a layover, but it was nice to hang out at the pool. The hotel was very empty, so the bar inside was not staffed. Nevertheless we asked for a menu and the person at the front desk promised a waiter would show up soon. After waiting fifteen minutes we just have up and went outside to find a place for a drink and snack (which was easy).

Well, at least we're in Cancun, right?!?!

At this hotel, you have to work for your enjoyment. There is not much offered but a pool and beautiful scenery of the beach. There isn't an elevator and we were book on the top floor-we had a nice looking room BUT...the room was hot - had to call maintenance for the A/C. Then hubby tried to get the jacuzzi going - had to call maintenance for that. We checked in late and wanted some food - overpriced and nasty (I think our bellhop made it, lol - he was like "the kitchen's close but don't worry"). This was our first time in Cancun and didn't realize we were steps from a decent restaurant outside. The king size bed - stiff. The staff was very friendly and as for our stay- only for one night (as we booked the rest of our time in cancun at an all inclusive resort) but that night was beautiful once pass the mishaps - double balconies, right under stars, sound of the beach brushing the shore filled the room and the cool breeze from the night air made a/c unnecessary. This hotel is for people not planning to be at their hotel.

Basic needs not met

Many stairs, but the halls and stairways seem to be well cooled. Our room did not have a working air conditioner. Feet were always blackened by dirty tile floor. Bathroom smelled like raw sewage. No washcloths ever delivered. Staff nice, but not enough English skills to solve problems. This could be a nice place, but right now it's not a place we would ever return.

Skip this hotel's free breakfast. Immediately down the stairs at street level is a terrific restaurant Ta-Cun that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's reasonable, terrific food and a great place to watch the world go by!

sweet small beach hotel in Cancun

The hotel is charming, small, beautifully kept up and right on the beach and also has a pool. Because lagoon facing rooms also face a busy street, I recommend the beach facing rooms for sound sensitive people. The breakfast was excellent and served in a lovely room.

Mia Cancun

Pro's: Hotel has character, like an old-style authentic Hacienda rather than a modern hotel. Location great, right on bus stops, right on beach, room actually quite beautiful, comfortable bed, great price.Helpful tourist information guy (the manager maybe?) who made calls for us. Con's: 1. open drain in bathroom sink; asked for a stopper (contac lenses), maintenance guy comes up, looks at it, walks away & never returns) 2. hotel badly in need of upkeep, lots of broken wood, tiles, ill-fitting & broken doors, ancient refrigerator and kitchen accessories (i.e., 1st generation, badly stained, microwave and blender, stained old curtains. The tv was positioned to be nearly unviewable from the bed. 3. Housekeeping staff badly in need of management consultant. Each day we never knew what to expect. i.e. 1 day there would be a full set of towels; next day just 2 bathtowels, no hand towel, washcloth, or bath mat. 1 day the coffee cups would be cleaned, next day they'd be left in the sink, next day there's be a little cup of laundry detergent and a piece of a sponge (hinting that we should do it ourselves?!). There was a coffeemaker but they only provided an envelope of coffee on the 1st day. There was a q-tip left from a previous visitor on the floor in back of the toilet. For the 5 days we were there, this was never swept up, which says something about the quality of the cleaning.(even tho we left a tip!) 4. Breakfast ok but service undependable. One day , despite repeated inquiries , they didn't bring the toast til after we'd finished everything else. Coffee was pretty bad. 5. Front desk staff undependable too. When we complained about the towel situation they said the housekeeper had already gone home, so no towels for you! They never apologized for anything even tho we were as nice as possible when we approached them. 6. No elevator & wi-fi only in lobby (although we knew this before the visit but for some people these could be objectionable) 7. The hotel had recently changed its name from the Avalon Baccarat, the name still on the front of the hotel, which led to much confusion with taxi & van drivers who insisted on driving to a different hotel with a name siimilar to Mia Cancun.

Where is this hotel located?

I arrived a day earlier than my parents and decided to try a new hotel (I have been staying at a different hotel for the past 15 years). I arranged a shuttle to take me to the hotel and even showed the hotel receipt to the shuttle driver so he knew exactly what hotel I was staying at. We arrived at a hotel that seemed way more luxurious than the one I was supposed to stay at. I asked him four times in Spanish if this was the hotel. He told me yes. I was dropped off and it turned out to be a completely different hotel. I asked the concierge where I was supposed to be heading and he told me is was a 5 minute walk down the boulevard. I walked for what seemed like 15-20 minutes and every time I asked for directions no one knew which hotel I was talking about. The final hotel I asked was extremely nice and investigated for me. They told me it was in front of a little store. I walked back to where I came from and I did not see any sign for the Hotel. I spoke to yet another security guard and he led me up a small driveway with no signs to what happened to be the hotel. When I arrived at the hotel (sweaty and irritated), I told them of my troubles and in a very non-caring way they told me that people have had trouble in the past because the hotel has changed names three times. I have never commented/posted on this website, but was so frustrated with this experience that I am hoping it does not happen to others. I was lucky that it was daytime and I speak Spanish.

The worst hotel ever

The hotel rooms are nothing like in the picture. Old, outdated and dirty. What they describe is false advertisement. The staff are unhelpful. Breakfast is atrocious- no tea or ordinary condiments you would find in a normal hotel, long waits of over half an hour before being served despite there only being 6 or so tables. Complaining makes no difference - they just don't want to help. If I could give this place no stars then I would. Don't come here.
