Nice facilities--sales pitches a turnoff

Super Dave Jan 1, 2010

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel has nice facilities. They start hitting you with sales pitches as soon as you arrive. They want you to join the ... Melia Club or some such. They offer deals on in-hotel services (dinners, spa, etc) and discounts on things like day trips to Chichen Itza (their "discounted price" was much higher than the base price advertised all over Cancun and several dollars higher than I actually paid for the trip). About the third day, they mostly gave up. But, still when I asked the "concierge" for a suggestion or help, he/she tried to send me somewhere with a brochure and their name for a kickback. I finally gave up trying to use the concierge for anything.

A really cool spot

I'm often described as stodgy, but I thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. The decor is interesting, the rooms quite nice and the ... staff really helpful. Oddly, though, different staff members sometimes give different descriptions of local activities and directions. Service is quite good, even though it is often slow. It's Mexico, though, so relax and enjoy. Oh, yes, it would help to have the pool heated in the winter.

Beach view for sure! Dec 30, 2009

Great hotel I would like to go back! The room was great and very modern. The door did not isolate the room from noise coming ... from the hall, I hope the fix it. The music in the pool fit the characteristics of the modern and sophisticated theme, I just do not like Techno music; but it would be imposible to satisfy everybody. I did not go to the bar, not appealing to me for some reason. The employees were very nice and helpfull. I did not use the Bali beds in the pool they were "reserved". I did not care about it because I went to spent some time in the Ocean not in a swimming pool but some people might find that annoying. The room minibar was expensive just like any minibar.

The hotel is located very central of the "Zona Hotelera" walk or take the $7.50 pesos bus everywere. Starbucks is a block away south from the hotel at "la Isla" mall if you do not want to pay for expensive breakfast. Try the "Flautas" at the "Maxim Beach Restaurant at the Hotel". Try "Cambalache" Argentinian restaurant north of the hotel about 6 blocks.

Great, above expectations

Maria Dec 25, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The service at the hotel is just magnificent, everyone is in fact at your service. Also, this is the best buffet I´ve ever ... tried in Cancun. There is an only adult pool with djs and all, but there is also the other part of the beach with a more quiet mood. Rooms are good size, super neat and great design, with enjoyable atmosphere, and they even let you take the music home (cd). The only complain is they gave us the room in which the hotel "corners", the last room of each floor, so it only had two windows instead of three (ocean view)and the view was kind of limited (there are no balconies in any room). So just ask for a room in the middle.

Vacation with IDA

Vacation Traveler Nov 10, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The ME by Melia is a very update and modern hotel with the friendliest staff you can find. Unfortunately due to the coming ... of hurricane IDA the hotel was not running at full steam as there was hardly any visitors there and the constant rain limited our exposure to the beach and pool. During the hurricane the hotel staff gave clear instructions on where we should be and what we needed to do to stay safe. The food in the tourism zone was way to exensive, as the weather permited and we was able to get out we was able to find food at extremely reasonable prices and much tastier then any food we ate in the tourism zone.

Wonderful getaway! 4 plus stars!

Dan Esq Oct 31, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Beautiful beachfront property with spectacular sunrise views. Relaxed and sipped cocktails by the beach and poolside. Went ... for long walks along the beach. Drinks were a little expensive but comparable in price to big cities like NYC and Chicago. Very nice blend of relaxation and partying. A hip upscale place that lends itself well to several different options (i.e relaxing, partying and/or romance) It was as good as any other trip I've taken to the Caribbean. I'd definitely stay at the ME again.

It was a follow up call from the front desk asking how our check-in was and to just call if we ever need anything else. The most important thing is that the service was great from when we arrived to the duration of our stay to when we departed.

Me So Phony!

Unskinny Flop Oct 8, 2009

Overrated VH1-MTV party hotel. They need to stop bragging that Rock Of Love was filmed there and focus on basic costumer ... services. The gym was inadequate. Anybody that can lift more than 20 pounds wont get a decent workout. Middle of the night phone calls asking to pay a 49 pesos bill! Elevators broke for 3 days. Had to use a crowded service elevator that sounded as if someone was pulling it up and down via a rusty chain. Ten feet of beach front. Thats when the tide was out. Beach front rooms are way small with no balconies. No store in hotel to buy water or small snacks. I could go on but Brett Michael's needs my autograph.

I have been to the hotel three times in 18 months. Great vibe, beds, pools, and service. Can't complain about anything ... other than the elevators going down. It happens, nothing to get upset about in paradise.

PERFECT from Check-In to Check-Out!!!!!!

Sweety Sep 29, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Upon Check-in we receieved two glasses of Champagne, GREAT START. The front desk provided excellent customer service.. VERY ... SINCERE STAFF. The concierge helped planned our great weekend with lots to keep us busy.. snorkeling, atc, ziplining etc... EXCELLENT RECOMMENDATIONS. The pool staff was a little hard to find.. and the minibar in the rooms are a bit pricey. Otherwise we had a great stay!! Overall friendly staff, Beautiful hotel layout.. I'd definetly recommend it to everyone!!!!

Second Stay at ME

dave Sep 28, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This was our second stay here this year, both for 8 nights. Obviously, we are fans of this hotel since we returned after our ... April trip.Room: We had a 6th floor ocean view. Excellent overall. Housekeeping service twice each day. Bathroom stocked with Aveda products. Fantastic shower. Comfortable bed.Pools: Clean and no problem getting beds any time of day. Plenty of staff for drinks, food, umbrellas, towels, etc. This is more of an adult oriented hotel which we liked at the pool especially. Very peacefull.Food: We had breakfast daily at the hotel restaurant. This is a buffet with many made to order options included (eggs, pancakes, fruit/veggie smoothies to name a few). Great staff. We loved it.Beach: This was the big surprise for us because we did not expect one. In April the water came right up to the retaining walls. This time the tide was much lower and there was plenty of beach to enjoy for walks, sunbathing and fun in the ocean.Spa/Fitness Room: Worked out 4 days in the gym. Nice Lifecycle treadmills. Plenty of equipment for a vacation workout. Still surprised that they do not supply wipedown sprays/anti-bacteria wipes for the guests to use on the equipment. We remembered this from our April trip so we packed our own.Our package included a small spa credit that my wife used for a facial that she said was great. We asked if they had any other spa service promotions going on and to our surpise they had 2 x 1 massage(good Monday - Thursday only). We had been there all week and you would think the hotel guests would be informed of this to get some business. We selected the 90 minute hot stone couples massage and it was the most relaxing massage we have ever had. We believe that there is no such thing as a bad massage but this was exceptional.Misc.: At check in, after flying 1800 miles, the front desk informed us that our reservation had been cancelled (they said it was cancelled 24 hours prior). Not the way I expect to start a vacation especially since I had emailed the ME 48 hours prior to arrival to verify the accomodations (ME emailed back that everything was ready). [...]I informed them this was not my problem so we got the manager [...] involved. [...] quickly realized the following: 1)Reservation made 4 months prior 2)Several email confimations with ME including 48 hours prior to arrival regarding accomodations[...]Within minutes the reservation was reinstated. I was never informed on what happened but everything went great from there. As for the "Noisy" check mark...the halls are all tile so everything echos. If you are a light sleeper you will hear everything.

Sort tips by: most recent | distance from hotel

Dining tip

Don't be tempted to eat in one of the big chains that have sprouted up along the coast. I ate at a different local restaurant every meal and thoroughly enjoyed every one of them.

--Super Dave, Houston TX Jan 1, 2010

Dining tip, Short Walk

Limoncella-the best Italian in Cancun.

--The Young Mossback, Kansas Dec 30, 2009

Money savers tip

The hotel is located very central of the "Zona Hotelera" walk or take the $7.50 pesos bus everywere. Starbucks is a block away south from the hotel at "la Isla" mall if you do not want to pay for expensive breakfast. Try the "Flautas" at the "Maxim Beach Restaurant at the Hotel". Try "Cambalache" Argentinian restaurant north of the hotel about 6 blocks.

--Beach view for sure!, Denver Dec 30, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

Two of the main and best malls in Cancun are in a walking distance. La Isla 5 minutes at most, Kuculcan 10 maybe 15 slow walk.

--Maria, Mexico City, Mex Dec 25, 2009

Money savers tip

Don't use an airport shuttle, taxi's to the hotel stip cost the same, with the convenience of not having to drop off 10 other guests first...

--Experienced Traveller, Savannah, GA Nov 30, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

Great value in food at local shopping areas. Taco Grill pork tacos are to die for

--Dave G, Portland, Oregon Nov 17, 2009

Nightlife tip, Short Drive

Make sure to visit Coco Bongo. The cover charge was $35 for women and $50 for men, this includes open bar. It is totally worth it. The show is incredible. CNN made some research on shows in Las Vegas and said this show tops them all. I have to agree with that statement. Don't leave Cancun without going there!!

--DJKLOS, Houston Texas Sep 24, 2009

Dining tip, Long Walk

Go to Lorenzillo's for dinner! You will not regret it.

--Mica&Roger, Seattle, WA Sep 21, 2009

Money savers tip, Short Drive

Take the bus or a taxi to Walmart to buy water, soda and snacks, much cheaper than snacking at a restaurant or buying it at the local convenience stores, but if you have to go to a convenience store, it's a very short walk.

--Cancun by myself, New York, NY Sep 15, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

Go to the mall to eat...Cheaper and better.

--Mike and Josh, Phoenix, AZ Sep 7, 2009

Nightlife tip, Short Walk

short walk to Pat OBrien's, Jimmy Buffett's, the rest of the night clubs are a short cab ride/bus ride away

--Shaun, Trenton, NJ Aug 20, 2009

Nightlife tip, Short Drive

if you can its best to buy a bottle at the nightclubs and you'll get much better sevice. The other way is about 40 dollars for all you can drink but good luck getting your drinks fast with good service. If you dont tip you'll see your drink order 30 min later. The bottles are usually about 80 to 120 dollars. So if you have a group of 3-4 your gonna spend that anyway. and you have much more room to party in the vip then in general population.

--Cancun King, Delray Beach Florida Aug 18, 2009

Time savers tip, In Hotel

Tip the servers good beforehand if you want faster service.

--archu01, Atlanta, GA Aug 10, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

Go to Santos Mariscos. It is true delicious Mexican food. It's so cheap too. Oh and fish tacos were amazing. Destilleria was like American Mexican.. If you've been to San Diego it's like Old Town. These places are just passed the Mall. on the right.. About 10 min walk. We Also ate at Chuckos Y Teres in the club district. There food was tasty. Not too expensive either. The Breakfast Buffet at Salt/Silk is perfect for any picky eater. It caters too everyone!
