LaAmada is beautiful and serene. Stayed for 6 days in Nov 2009. The layout makes it feel spacious and uncrowded. Definitely ... calmer than the all-inclusive next door. Would definitely visit again. However if you want a lot of action or nightlife, you have to travel south to the tourist part of Cancun.

This is one of the few 5-star hotels that I've stayed at which genuinely deserved all 5 stars. All of the service was prompt ... and thorough, with even the strangest requests met with a pleasant response. Service was just outstanding, with everyone bending backwards to make for a great stay. If the in-room jacuzzi and 5-head showers isn't enough, the resort has 3 further available pools, a very nice stretch of beach, a marina, and a hydrotherapy spa. The food was amazing, with the "free breakfast" being a large buffet including things like jamon cerrano, braised salmon, mimosas, custom baked pastries, etc. The other meals were similarly delicious. The room was larger than it seemed in the photographs, covered in wall-to-wall polished stone, white wood, and every amenity that you could reasonably hope for. International plugs, simple in-room climate control, an iPod alarm clock dock, and a Jacuzzi which opens either to the room or out to the private deck round out a wonderful overall package. The private deck includes a lounge chair in the style of a bed, which is perfect for slumbering under the stars at night. I could ramble on and on all night about the little details they got right, but let's just say that they were spot on. Be aware that this is a new part of Cancun (as of 2009), and is mostly still under construction. As such, it is about a 20 minute ride from the "action" of downtown Cancun proper. If you're looking for an experience more like Planet Hollywood, you'll probably want something a bit further South (or to rent a car). However, the relaxed, restful atmosphere of Playa Mujeres was just perfect for us. I cannot recommend La Amada highly enough.

The Spa's Hydrotherapy routine is an affordable 60 minutes that you won't forget. Alternating between the extremes of hot and cold, the experience is bracing and refreshing. There is no guarantee that you will actually like the treatment (our group seemed split). But you will never forget it.

A nice enjoyable stay. The in room Jacuzzi is a little shallow. The shower is absolutely amazing. The dining menus were a ... little short on selection, and the portion sizes were small as well. But every bite was full of flavor. I was always excited to see what their little appetizers and desserts were, as they tickled your taste buds. The morning breakfast buffet was amazing. The hotel is not at full capacity, so the swim up bar was not open yet. The agua viva spa was so nice we did it twice.

La Amada Hotel - Best Place EVER
GGs Mom Oct 29, 2009
This hotel is GREAT! The staff was very friendly, warm and attentive. Not one detail was overlooked. We were always greeted ... with a smile and addressed by name. We visited the spa various times and were pleasantly surprised with all the available treatments, the proffessional staff and the peaceful environment. The hotel is outside of Cancun, but its location is perfect. Its surrounded by great landscaping, quiet peaceful settings. The hotel offers daily service by Sailboat to the Hotel Zone, as well as daily trips to Isla Mujeres. Our package included continental breakfast, but the food was great. They offer many options for food and whatever we ordered we were always pleasantly surprised. The kids club was great, and they let you borrow movies to bring to your room as well as toys. This has been the best stay in Cancun we've had yet. Last year we stayed at the Riu Palace and it doesn't compare at all. LA Amada is quiet, you don't have to fight for a place by the pool, everything is great. At turn down service, you get a complete guide of the weeks activities and a list of specials being offered at the spa. The gym is equipped with the latestest equipment available along with a trainer to help you with any questions you might have. They offer various fitness classes throughout the day as well. Yoga, water aerobics, streaching, etc... The ONLY suggestion I could make to the hotel was to add a small garbage can by the bar area and another by the sink area of the bathroom. We will return and I will recommend this place to anyone looking for a great secluded place to relax and enjoy nature.

I cannot say enough regarding the quality of the hotel, the quality of the services and the friendliness and attentiveness of ... the staff. Every day at La Amada was a joyful experience. Cancun is beautiful and the facilities here at la Amada were flawless. It is in a secure location, beautiful private beach, away from the noisy and crowded hotel zone. there are three large pools, two restaurants, fitness center and spa. We went to the spa several times and my favorite was the weekend Agua Viva treatment. The gourmet breakfast buffet was abundant, natural with mainly organic choices. This hotel is an as of yet undiscovered jewel; now is the time to discover for yourself! We had eleven family members staying for an average of 7 nights. It was heaven.

Kibbybulldog Oct 19, 2009
Place is awesome. Better than Secrets Capri & The Royal (Both Playa & Cancun). Even tho the resort is located far away from ... everything, it is worth it - it's so nice & quiet. You don't have vendors trying to sell you things on the beach. Excellent staff. Housekeepers are a little slow in tidying up the room each day, but they do a great job. The oceanfront rooms aren't really oceanfront. And the rooms are about 1/2 of the size as they advertised them to be. There are only 2 restaurants on the resort, so the food choice is limited, but the prices are very reasonable (they make their killing on the beverages). Will definitely come back again.

Since this hotel is miles away from everything, you should rent a car from the airport. Stock up your beverages from Walmart and save yourself a bundle. A mojito from this joint will run you $150 pesos, a pina colada, $140 pesos.

Me and the wife have never been to Cancun and didn't know what to expect. La Amada was easily the nicest hotel either of us ... had been to. We thought about JW, Westin, Fairmont... La Amada was the right choice! Food was great, rooms are luxurious, staff is friendly and the beach is pristine. Location is the only issue. We were happy to be far away from the "Hotel Zone" but others may not like the seclusion. Getting to the Zone will run a $20-$30 cab ride. Highly recommend this resort!

This hotel was one of the nicest I've ever stayed at. It was simply lovely. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The ... beach was great. The only downside was one dinner we had at Aroma, the hotel's restaurant, was not good. But they cheerfully removed the food and took it off our bill. The Mayan ruins were fascinating. We went both to Tulum and Chitchen Itza. If you plan to do both, go to Tulum first. Location was gorgeous. Chitchen Itza is fascinating. We did a group tour to Chitchen Itza. Don't know if I'd do it that way again. The plus is that you get a guide to explain some of the history. The downside is the rush and touristic quality of the tour. But the guides were good-natured and worked hard to make the group happy. We also spent a day at Isla Mujeres. Totally worth it. Just make sure you get on the right ferry. There are multiple ferry lines that make the trip, and we had some trouble. Overall, a fabulous vacation.

The hotel staff were so nice and friendly! The restaurant was delicious - the head chef "Juan Garcia" made a point to stop by ... our table to check on us. The spa was beautiful and the services were so special. Ask for Adrianne for the massage - very nice! We loved the location since it was away from all the commercial stuff of Cancun but if you are looking to party it up at the night clubs this hotel is probably not your first pick. It cost $25 for a taxi to get to the hotel zone (night clubs) so it could get expensive. I also suggest not purchasing the airport transfer since you will be the last to get dropped off since the hotel is not in the hotel zone area.
Traveler type: Friends
don't buy the airport transfer. Purchasing in advance is not any cheaper and you have to wait in a long line for your turn before you get a taxi. Then you have to share the taxi. The taxi driver told me it cost $25 to get to the airport from La Amada.

Fabulous Vacation!
oakland quaker Oct 8, 2009
La Amada is a small boutique hotel fairly far from the main Cancun hotel strip. The staff is friendly and warm. The room we ... had--the smallest available--was huge and beautiful. A continental breakfast is included, and though we thought we might get bored with it, there was enough variety that in a week, we never did. The spa was wonderful and their signature treatment--Agua Viva--was very relaxing, a romp through saunas and pools and jets. One night the chef cooked a Mexican specialty just for us--another night he taught us how to make an item we especially liked on the menu. The pools are nice, the beach pristine. The only thing that was at all unfortunate was a strong mildewy smell in our room the first night. The hotel tried to fix it and when they couldn't, moved us to another room. All was done graciously and warmly. I would definitely go back.I've never been to Cancun before, so I have nothing to compare it to--but it was wonderful! One more issue: the hotel is new, a bit out of the way, and not well known. We had some issues getting tours ([...]) to pick us up and drop us at the hotel.

We took a boat excursion to Isla Contoy, a national park about 2 hours away by boat. The concierge helped to put it together. There are many kinds of birds nesting on the island, as well as good snorkeling and a wonderful beach. The tour company (Kolumbus Tours) took us on a wooden boat, with open bar and lunch included. They were knowledgeable and excellent.

What I enjoyed most about La Amada is the fact that it was located far away from the Zona Hotelera and all the chaos that ... tends to surround it. There is only another Hotel next to La Amada. We felt so very special the whole time we were there, staff knew us by name and the chef would spoil us daily. Due to the fact that we went in late September there were not many guests and it never felt crowded. The hotel restaurants and pool bar are very, very good. Please ask for a Mango margarita with spicy salt, best one you will ever have! Lupita Lounge was great for late night drinks. Staff of the hotel is amazingly friendsly, they really made us feel like home the whole time we were there. We ventured to downtown Cancun once but really once you are at La Amada you do not want to leave! Room are super comfortable, amazing shower, jacuzzi, super-comfy bed! We were never disturbed by the cleaning staff no matter what time of the day we would leave our rooms. Me and my friends cannot wait to go back!

Very large, beautiful rooms with gigantic marble shower and comfy king-sized beds. Spotless grounds. White sand beach (but no ... surf to speak of, if you're into that). Quiet on weekdays, busier on weekends. Great food and drink.

If you're comfortable driving in less developed nations, renting a car is far and away the easiest, least expensive option for getting around while in the Yucatan. A cab ride from the airport to La Amada will cost you about $70 USD one way, so if you want to visit anything outside of the hotel -- even just a trip to the hotel zone public beaches -- the car will pay for itself quickly. Take a drive down to Tulum to check out the ruins and cenotes; the highway has been completely re-done.

Quiet Hotel, Great Service
Van Cutter Romney Sep 29, 2009
Our experience at La Amada was very enjoyable. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the location & and slightly ... expensive room service. Playa Mujeres is about 10 km (6.5 miles) north of Zona Hotelera (Cancun Hotel Zone). My wife and I rented a car at the airport for the duration of our stay as there is no public transportation available near the hotel and cabs to the hotel are more expensive than to the Cancun hotel zone. Rentals are cheap in Mexico but you have to take mandatory liability coverage even if you waive collision damage. La Amada Resorts is part of a "gated community" containing the hotel, marina, luxury condos and Excellence Resorts - the sister hotel of La Amada. It is about a kilometer from Punta Sam (Point Sam), a port with ferries to nearby islands. When we arrived at the hotel the staff courteously greeted us with cold champagne as we checked in. Our room was immaculately clean with a well stocked mini bar, snacks and bathrobes. While we were given an option to upgrade to a swim up suite for an additional cost, we preferred to keep our junior suite as the common swimming pool outside our room is much larger. Each junior suite is pool facing with a king size bed, has a private jacuzzi, 42" TV, alarm with iPod dock, smaller twin bed outside the room and cushioned lounge chairs on the patio. Simply luxurious! There is a walk in closet at the back of the room with a programmable safe to keep valuables. The staff was extremely kind and everyone (including cleaning, restaurant, maintenance staff) would greet you when you walked by. The breakfast buffet is an excellent way to begin your day and features a variety of fruits, meats, yogurt, cheeses, bread, mimosas and hot and cold drinks. The concierge desk is very helpful (email them beforehand if you have any questions) and they will happily point out attractions and things to do around Cancun tailored to your needs. La Amada features two restaurants, Aroma (for breakfast, dinner) and Isla Grill (for lunch). My wife and I are vegetarian and we were slightly disappointed at the options in the menu at both places (such is the case with all restaurants in Cancun) but the head chef made us excellent vegetarian dinners when we requested it. Overall, our stay was very pleasant and I would recommend this place to both couples and families looking for a nice and quiet getaway.

It is lovely but there are 10 times more people at this hotel. There is not privacy and a sense of real romance. It caters to the 20 something that wants to drink in the pool and buy jewelry at the boutique. Same company but worlds of difference. You can also buy a cheaper night time pass that only covers 4 hours depending upon your needs.

Hotel can also arrange tours and car rental. via their concierge desk. Warning: Driving in Mexico is not for everyone.

Rent a car to get to the hotel, it's just 15min from airport. Take advantage of low rental rates in Cancun. Rent it even if it's just to go to the hotel and back.

Find a taxi driver that speaks English. There are only a few that service the resort and the best one by far was [...]. Ask at the desk for them to locate him. He is super-friendly and will take you on guided tours to any Cancun / Riviera Maya attractions for a reasonable price.
