Nice location not matched by room cleanliness

Stayed one night with my family and was not satisfied with the room, the air conditioning was not working well and the room was humid. In addition, I've found 4 cockroaches in the bathroom which made our stay even worse. The only reason for giving two stars is because the beach is really nice!!

Perfectly Mediocre, Great Value for Cancun Hotel Zone

Some friends and I just stayed at the Krystal Grand Punta in Cancun for a week long vacation and we enjoyed our time there. We did not choose the all inclusive package so we ended up paying more for food and drinks than we would have otherwise, so that's something to consider. The hotel offers "double resort credit" but that gets to be confusing very quickly because instead of doubling the money you give them, they just charge you half of whatever the normal charge would be. It's not the best system for sure, and there's no easy way to check your balance other than ask the staff what remains. The front desk staff did a very good job of answering our questions, and they were always helpful for sure (Gustavo was especially patient with us). The rooms are very simple but clean, but the lobby delivers that "WOW" factor as soon as you walk in. The pool area is really nice (dare I say awesome), and there's direct access to the beach, with a chairs and cabanas reserved just for hotel guests. We only ate at one restaurant for the breakfast buffet ($30 per person!!), but there are several restaurants at the site that appeared to be fairly upscale; however, we did not eat at any of the other places on site. This hotel is located deep in to the hotel zone, so getting out of the zone to go on excursions cam take a lot of time, at least 30 min to get to a main highway to go south to Playa Del Carmen or Tulum or Xcaret or Xplor or whatever - keep that in mind. On the other hand, this hotel is literally a 5 min walk to the nightclubs in Cancun. In addition, there's an Oxxo store (convenient store) literally across the street from the hotel, so buy your water/drinks/coffee/snacks/etc over there... For me, the bottom line is this: if you're looking for an all-inclusive resort in Cancun, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. I'd guess the larger resorts might offer more for similar pricing. However, if your looking for a nice place to stay, very close to the nightclubs, with decent rooms, pools, beach, and have no real desire to leave this area - then this hotel would work for you.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There are three places you NEED to find when in Cancun - these places are truly local, and offer OUTSTANDING value and EXCELLENT FOOD. 1) For Breakfast: Go to Ty-Coz, located right in front of the brand new Super-Chedaruai, about a 5-10 min walk from the hotel. Their croissants are superb - and only cost about 60 pesos ($5). 2) For a quick snack: Go to Las Quekas, a small quesadilla stand right in front of Mandala and The City. These little quesadillas are only 13 pesos ($1) and are absolutely delicious. 3) For any other time - you MUST go to Surfin Burrito, about a 10 min walk past the nightclubs. They are open 24 hours a day, and their burritos are the best I've ever had. The have buckets of Corona for 119 pesos ($9), with drink specials as well. Seating is very limited, but this forces you to start a conversation with the people in front of you. We met so many great people this week - and it's all because we went to the Surfin Burrito.

Couples getaway

Hotel is in a good location; close to shops, mall, bars, etc. it seems to attract a quieter crowd (I've stayed twice). Both times I was there, they had a double resort credit option, which essentially cuts your meal/drink costs in half. I definitely recommend doing the double credit. Also, hold on to receipts in case of discrepancy. I'd stay again!

Good for the money! but expect nothing fabulous.

This was my first trip to Cancun! I would say that the hotel was very average. I am very indifferent about this hotel. The room was old, clean, cold, plain and simple. The bed was comfortable enough and the view was Acceptable. There was construction next door but once you get past that the ocean view was Amazing. The bathroom was old, the showerhead sucked, the tiled floor was freezing, the shower would flood and the sink water would rapidly splash out water. Their water pipe busted around 7-8pm and left the whole hotel without water. No one could shower and go #2 for hours. The mini fridge sucked, they lock it and you have to call them to have them unlock it -$5 tip. I had to have my mini fridge replaced because it was not working; once I did it took about 2 days for it to actually keep cold beverages. You are also not allowed to remove their stuff and put your stuff in there (weak). My iron was broken and had to call it in to get it replaced -$5 tip. I even had to prove that my iron was broken they didn’t tip me (Sad face) also had to wait 45mins to get a new one. The hotel didn't wow me, you pretty much paying for the location. They hotel was near all the bars and shopping walking distance. It was more disappointing considering the pictures looked a lot better than what it actually was. It's not all-inclusive or a resort style stay for sure. Next time I will pay the extra for the Hyatt. The one thing that was real cool was that they had daily activities like yoga, stretching, water polo and water volleyball that was real fun. My wife and I really enjoyed yoga and water volleyball. The pool closed at 8pm (weak). The staff varied. Some were cool people real nice and helpful others were rude and always expected a $5 tips. Need some towels -$5 tip? Need some Air- $5 tip! GGGGGZZZ! They were not shy and demanding about their tip. Beware if you don’t tip they get real upset and talk about you. They also lag a lot on the requests and still expect a tip. The door boy Ricardo and Gustavo were real cool they gave me some coupon to local restaurants. The people at the bar in the hotel were pretty rude, I don’t know what to say but it but it was always unwelcoming. I hated having to go the bar to get a drink or order food (wife says-Tortilla soup sucked). We rather go out to get something to eat. Another thing that was real cool about this place is that their Cabanas were free and so were the lawn chairs. It’s first come first serve so wake up early to claim one but at least it was free. Pros: Location Cons I rather had stayed at the Hyatt.

Ok hotel

Upon checking in at the hotel there was a line of about 3 families in front of us. They spent about 45 minutes with each family. When it was our turn, I found out why. They claimed that their computers were down and were moving the previous guests to other hotels saying that they didn't have rooms because they were over booked. This did not bode well for me and my family. We had pre planned an excursion and didn't want to have to call to reschedule or tell them of a new pick up location. I picked this hotel because of the ideal location (walking distance to shopping and restaurants). They wanted to send us down to some seedier hotel way at the bottom of the strip with nothing around it. We had to get REALLY IRATE with the clerk. She walked to the back office and when she came back she took me to an area away from the other people in line and gave me a room. I feel sorry for the others that had to relocate in a less than desirable location. I purposefully did not book an all inclusive trip because I didn't want to be tied to the hotel and knew we would be exploring cancun. I asked for extra pillows for my family of 4 and never received them. We never tried eating at any of the restaurants at this site so I can't really say anything about them. The prices were pretty steep. Probably similar to the prices of any American hotel restaurant prices. The beach was perfect. Not ideal beach area if you are interested in boogie boarding as there were no good waves but my family enjoyed it anyway.

Great location with a good beach and privacy

This is my second time staying here. I did the "double credit" option both times. Basically, for ever $100, $150, or $200 you put down, they match you. The credit is good towards drinks, snacks, and dining. This makes it a great value! I don't recommend this hotel for party-goers. It's more of a mature crowd. It's close to the club/restaurant area (5 min walk). Only downfall is that they don't have free wifi. I would go back a third time!
