Spring Breakers 2K13
Great Spring Break
They place was very clean, the restaurant with it was perfect, the water and resort amenities was so nice. I am very pleased we chose this place. The location is in the heart of cancun and within walking distance to anything. Our room was basically right off the beach and pool. We didn't have to pay anything extra for it, that is just how all the rooms are laid out. I would recommend this resort to any of my family or friends! I do recommend to do the reservations for dinner each night. It really added to our experience and the food was amazing at the mexican restaurant. The only thing I would change is that it would have been nice to have more bars available late at night, but really everything worked out for us on our trip.

worst hotel
This has been one of the worst hotels I have been in. Alot of noisy spring break students. All you can drink parties in the lobby bar and rooms down the hall. Had to use ear plugs to sleep. When we checked in and went up to our room, my daughter commented that the room looked like it had not been cleaned. She was right. Three calls later someone came and cleaned the bathroom. I pulled back the sheets and saw that they were also dirty. Two calls later, a maid finally came and changed the bedding. Comforter cover was not switched out. Food in restaurant was OK.

Not Great - Almost All Inclusive
Although the location can't be beat the service was terrible. From arrival to departure it was obvious that the staff didn't really care about the customers' experience. If it weren't for a select few of the staff (Christian, Edgar, and Linda) our stay would have been awful. Our room didn't include a king bed but two double beds, our luggage wasn't moved to our room, the food was less than great, and not much was included. One couple was even charged for using (2) tea bags from the room. The only way we, or the other two couples we travel with, would return to the Krystal is if we had some basic assurances in advance. I wish I had better things to say about our latest vacation, but it simply didn’t compare to our previous trips.

Great location, nice stuff but lots of young folks
Wen there during Canadian spring break so there were a lot of kids partying and occupying the hotel bar at night. But as it closes at 11pm we never had noise issues during the night. And we still got our cocktails by ordering them in the restaurant instead of at the overcrowded bar. Besides that, the hotel has a remarkable friendly staff that is very friendly and helpful. Rooms (got one in main building, tower b) are nice and seemed upgraded (granite vanities+tiles in the bathroom), ocean view from the balcony is priceless as is waking up to the sound of the breaking waves. All Inclusive program is a great deal (especially with included room service) and little things like the 2 free large bottles of water a day they put in your room and free non-alcoholic beverages from the mini bar make it even better. Selection and quality of the food at the main restaurant were we mostly went is pretty good for AI and offers way more than cheap fillers with a wide choice of fresh veggies and fruits. Especially good selection for the breakfast buffet with make to order omelets (or however you want your eggs), make to order smoothies and again a lot of fresh fruits&vegetables, cottage cheese, soup (surprisingly good) and your standard american bf tems (pancakes, cereals, etc.). Also lots of local specialities like cactus leaves and most items had at least somewhat of an authentic touch and weren't too much americanized and adapted to the taste of the average tourist. Location of the hotel is great at the northern corner of the hotel zone within walking distance to clubs, restaurants and buses which come every other minute and bring you to the next ferry stops and downtown cancun within a short ride and are less than a dollar per ride. The beach is beautiful and bigger than many of the neighboring hotels have at this part of the hotel zone. Overall if you don't mind passing young partying folks at night on your way to the restaurant or beach we can def recommend this place, nothing to complain about.

Was Expecting More
Upon our first contact with the hotel staff (bellman), we were being deceitfully led to a sales pitch for a time share. He told us we were being given "VIP status" on the 8th floor. Beware the 8th floor! It's a timeshare trap. Our next encounter was with the fromt desk; that went ok. However, we were then introduced to the "fake" concierge people who told us they were at our service. When we went back to ask about restaurants, activities, etc. we were once again pushed into going to the timeshare pitch on the 8th floor! The agent was relentless and she left a very sour impression. These people should not be wearing concierge badges, because they are nothing more than timeshare agents. We did receive an upgrade in the room, but only because the "romantic rooms" don't even exist anymore. The hotel pictures are far better than the actual hotel. If you're looking for a hotel-resort with activities, good restaurants, and night life-keep looking. This hotel does not offer any of those ameniities. The food was absolutely awful. About the only good thing about this hotel is the location in proximity to the clubs and a few good shopping and dining areas. The beach and pool area is nice, but so are the beach and pools at all the other hotels; some of which we toured while we were there. We were expecting so much more, after reading the other reviews. I'm not sure who actually wrote those other reviews, but I'm wondering about that as well. The timeshare staff at this hotel seemed to outnumber the actual hotel employees. Next time we will stick with a name brand.

Night Life bargain
The good: Service. I consider the service at the Moon Palace the gold standard and Krystal scored quite well against it. Everyone was polite and helpful. I’m especially appreciative of Christian, the bar tender at the bar on the Balinese beds end of the resort. He was very friendly, greeting me each morning when the bar opened and remembering my drink preferences even when I changed tequila brand half way through my stay. The grounds. I also use Moon Palace as the gold standard for facilities and again, Krystal scores very well. Everything was clean and well maintained and the grounds crews were out every morning attending to all of the little tasks needed to keep a seaside resort in ship-shape and Bristol fashion. The rooms. Very clean with up-to-date décor and appliances. The bathroom was especially nice. Excellent view of the beach. The beach. Simply one of the prettiest stretches of beach in Cancun. The meh: Impulse buying items in the room. I realize that this place is a business and profit is everything, but seeing bottles of water for $4.50 and a mini fridge full of similarly overpriced items just takes everything down a notch in terms of quality and experience. You get what you pay for, I suppose. Lack of a mini fridge in the room. Well, there was one, but it was full of the aforementioned impulse buy items. Again, you get what you pay for. The food in the restaurants. I wasn't on the All Inclusive plan, but I did eat at the buffet one night and I checked back on other nights to see if the food was any different; it wasn't. I’m glad I opted not to go in for the all-inclusive plan--doubly so once I discovered that Corona is not included in the All-Inclusive fee. The not good: Noise. The first night, I woke from a sound sleep to a steady, thump, thump, thump. I walked out onto the balcony and looked around to see if my room was on top of a disco or something. Then as I really started to wake up, I realized it was the TV next door. There were children laughing to some kind of Spanish comedy or cartoon with a really annoying laugh track. I don't want to be "THAT GUY" that calls and complains because someone flushed a toilet. So, I put my headphones on and waited for them to go to sleep all the while hoping that they’d check out the next day. Unfortunately, they didn't check out the next day and the next night was a repeat of the first. So, on the third day, I went to the front desk: "Excuse me, but I'm in room such and such. Can you tell me if the folks in room such and such next door are leaving today?" "No, they're checking out tomorrow. Is there a problem?" "They have kids and they play the TV really loud. I'm by myself and could move very easily...." "I'm sorry, but I don't have any ocean view rooms available. But, I'll contact the guests in that room. Please give us a call if this continues to be a problem." "Thank you." And sure enough, there wasn't a peep out of the room next door that night. But..... that night there was a band in the courtyard right outside my window. Sigh. My last night there, I was certain I was going to get to sit in bed with the balcony door open and fall asleep to the sound of the waves while reading a book. And I was able to... except I gotten woken up by the fireworks at the disco down the beach at 12:30 AM. Sigh. Sigh. Sigh. Overall, I think this is an awesome resort for folks on a budget who want to be in the center of things. The grounds, the service, the beach and the location in the middle of the Cancun night life zone are all top notch and an excellent bargain for the price. But, for folks like myself who really just want some quiet time beach side, Krystal is probably not your best bet. That probably holds true for any resort in that general area.
