Great stay!

We always stay at Oasis Hotels when we visit Cancun. Best value!! Great for kids. Only donwside is that there are only two elevators in the entire hotel and those elevators are not air conditioned...

Good Hotel, good value, but nothing amazing

Let me preface this by saying we had a good time overall. I have been to Playa Del Carmen Riu Palace and just came back from Grand Oasis Palm in Cancun. We spent $4000 in airfare and 7 days in Playa for 2 people 7 years ago and only $2800 in airfare for 5 days for 4 people in Cancun. (excluding excursions in both cases) If you are looking for luxury and 5 star food and service, go to Playa. If you are looking for a nice time at the beach and a good pool with your family and don't want to have to sell your kidney to do it, then Cancun is great. Aside from the location review, this hotel is understaffed. The staff is not as friendly as the RIU was, but they were not really rude either. It took 25-30 minutes to check in once we talked with someone, and there was no problem with the reservation. They are just slow. We had no towels in our room, no washcloths, and could not get beach towels an hour before the pool closed anywhere on the resort. The staff came in once a day to clean the room, and it was usually pretty late in the day. The sushi bar has one waiter who is run ragged, but is generally friendly. Still it took an hour and fifteen minutes to get and eat our sushi almost every day we went there, and that is just from being understaffed. I guess that is how they save money to offer a value deal. Additionally, I read other reviews beforehand that people were charged for things they did not use in their refrigerator, so I took a picture of the fridge as we arrived. Sure enough we had a charge for something that we did not use, and since I had picture proof, I did get my money back. Additionally, don't lose a towel or your wristband. There are heavy charges for that. Annoying, but not a total deal breaker. There is a really, really pushy lady at the front desk, who wants to give you the welcome package. She does not work for Oasis directly, but she will hassle you every time you pass and make it seem like she does. Again, annoying, but just ignore her existence, and things are fine. The food was good. I am not a super-picky person, but I enjoyed every meal, except for the pancakes and french toast at breakfast. I really liked the sit-down restaurants for dinner in general. The concierge service was generally helpful. The entertainment at night was great. We really liked the circus show. The other people at the resort were nice and it was family friendly. We all liked the pool, and while there are people in it, it never seemed over-crowded on any day to me. We stayed at the resort all but 2 days. It was a nice time. Again, not luxury, but not every trip needs to be. You get what you pay for so I would say 4 stars out of 5 for what you get for the money.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Attractions are cheaper if you buy them on the street than in the hotel. We saved $10 per person on the Captain Hook dinner cruise (which is pretty nice BTW) over the best price inside the hotel. Just make sure that you clarify if they are including transportation to the attraction, etc. The bus system is $1 per person if you don't mind using it.

First vaca for my boyfriend!

The food at the buffet was good/average..The restaurants however had amazing food! Staff was super friendly and very appreciative of the extra tips we gave them. They truly work hard for the little money they make :( Way too hot and humid! Never going in the summer again.. This was my 3rd year in a row going to Cancun and the other times were January and Feb the weather was perfect.... We got a couples massage at the resort which was great...Somewhat pricey but hey, it's vacation. The water was gorgeous at the beaches and the swim up bar in the book was awesome!!!! Having 2 different bars on the beach was def convenient!

Family vacation average!

We are a party of four that came to Cancun for our family vacation. It was fun. The pools and the beach were enjoyable, except for one day when someone pooped in the main pool and everyone had to exit the pool for about an hour. Beaches are beautiful! The bars are fun and the bartenders are quick! The alcoholic beverages aren't very strong however if you ask for it to be made stronger they will! Food was average at best. Buffets had same item every day. The good restaurants you had to reserve early morning and most time they tell you only one restaurant was available even though the restaurants always had empty tables! We enjoyed the sports bar! Great A/C in there! The kids also enjoyed the arcade in Oasis Palm right next door. This resort is definitely a family resort. There were all of little kids running around and crying often. We did use a day pass and went over to the Grand Oasis Cancun which is the sister hotel. It was more like a 5 star ***** hotel. Resort was much larger and a lot less people! Pools are bigger and much nicer!! We were on the 3rd floor and most times just walked down te stairs because the elevator are very slow an no A/C! So try to get stay in a lower level because no more than 8 people fit inside at once. Be prepared for outsiders to continuously and persistently approach you trying to sell you things. i.e. hats, wraps, cigars, bracelets, etc. Overall we had a good time. Also be prepared for humid 90-100 degree weather from dawn to dusk!

Not much American food. Mostly Mexican style foods... Not too great. Try to reserve the nice restaurants for dinner! That's the best option.

Not good

Rooms were always dirty sand everywhere , rooms were always done late one day it was 6:00 an still was not done , beach was ugly . The food was just ok. If you want to party and get drunk this is the place for you. I would prefer to pay a little bit more and be more comfortable . I would not return to this hotel.

grand oasis palm

The hotel is nice with super friendly staff and excellent food. I just wish the hotel had designated area for smokers. Not everyone smokes, hate to smell smoke especially around kids and sensitive to the smell of cigarettes. I noticed cigarette butts/plastic cups on the sand close to the beach. I wish the hotel post a sign regarding protecting the environment and harm it will cause to the sea animals if cups/cigarettes butts etc.. go in the water. Maybe have strict rules regarding proper disposing of such things around the beach.

Acceptable family getaway

We stayed on 8th floor facing the lagoon, pretty quiet day and night, though the lagoon view was not as great as that of the ocean because the color of the lagoon water was dull. Hotel room was big and clean. We had to request towels almost everyday because there were never enough towels for our family of 4. The elevators were not slow, but small. The beach was OK -- no waves in this part of the ocean, very shalow water. The disappoiting part is there were a lot of algae in the water.
