No longer a TRUE all-inclusive resort
Just returned 2 days ago from my 7th stay at this resort in the past 5 years. Thru these years I have enjoyed watching the upgrades that the resort is trying to improve upon. However, with that being said - this latest excursion has been quite alarming. There are sur-charges being tacked upon the tourist left and right. Many of the restaurants now have only a limited selection to choose from as 'all-inclusive' - all the tastier foods now have a charge associated with them. Room service may be free, but you are charged $15 to have it brought to you. The beach beds have been moved into a roped area (the beach club) - you must pay $15 to use them. Room sate keys are still $7 a day to rent (ridiculous). We were told by a fellow traveler that they had to pay $50 for an hour's use of the tennis court, and $20 to rent the volleyball area, which was never charged in the past except for the use of the actual equipment. I did not partake in these activities so I am going on what I was told. The food variety, taste, presentation has really taken a turn for the worse here. Or is it perhaps, only the tastiest foods can be bought? Serve an unappealing selection for FREE, and the people will be forced to purchase their 'all-inclusive' food from now on. The buffets are beginning to rival those of Golden Corrals, Ryans, Ponderosa -(whatever you may have in your neck of the woods) - there is no longer much imagination or thought being churned out here. Rodizzio (Brazilian Steak House) - used to have the most wonderful salad bar, bordering on a bit of exotic - no more. We were greatly disappointed in this trip, comparing it to a Denny's (yes, that bad). If you are a 'foodie' - stay away if you want to be impressed. If you just want to fill your belly - you will be fine. Expect to PAY for all the good menu selections (on top of your 'all-inclusive' package. When one thinks of 'all-inclusive' they expect to be able to partake in the amenities of the establishment (or be for-warned as to what is an additional charge) - this resort is not being totally honest & upfront with their menu's. They should tell the traveler that not all foods are included and that their menu choices are very limited with their package. The resort itself (the grounds) are beautiful and well kept. The employees friendly and hard working. The rooms are decent and for the most part clean (it is a older hotel that is still in very much need of updating). Bottom line- if you can get rooms for a good cheap price (ocean front for under $100 a night) and BLACK band - then it's not a bad value for the money. Don't pay any more than that though, as the value is really starting to slip.

Not the best but nice
Overall the value of staying at the Grand Oasis was good for the cost so next I'll pay more. Pros: Awesome beach and views, very nice outdoor areas with pools and swim up bars, lots of entertainment, location of resort is near shopping ( bus ride only 8 pesos to anywhere downtown.), lots of restaurant options Cons: Hotel staff try to up sell you at every opportunity and are pushy about it, one guy even gave my gf beach bag and then asked for it back 3 days later when he realized we weren't going to agree to sit through his 90 min sales promo, entertainment staff would practice trapeez shows with very loud music during the day.. nearly impossible to take a nap in our room between 3-5., their website says free room service but it's not, they charge 159 pesos ($15) to deliver it to your room.

Overall good, some limitations
Very nice grounds, well maintained, excellent pool and beach. Food average at best. We (parents with 11-year old and 7-year old) were there during spring break. Rooms weren't soundproofed, and we were awakened late at night/early morning by drunken revelers returning from bars. I would recommend families avoid during spring break, particularly if there are any light sleepers.

Great getaway
My wife and I just returned from a five-day stay at the Grand Oasis Cancun. We felt it was a good value and were very pleased with most aspects of the stay. They have done a good job of separating the Grand Oasis from the Oasis Cancun, which obviously was catering more to the "spring break" crowd. Our part of the resort was mostly quiet, the beach and the pool were very nice. We enjoyed most of the restaurants---probably would not return to the "gourmet Mexican". We will probably return to the Grand Oasis--had a very nice time there.

Meh.....20 something party place
We just got back 2-15-13 from an 8 day stay at the grand oasis. When we got there they offered us a tour of the resort so we could see the whole resort which turns out to be a time share gimmick, that sucked I should have known better! Otherwise it is a good hotel, definitely for the 18-20 something party all day crowd. The hotel rooms were ok, kinda old but ok. Flat screen and a little walk out balcony. Internet was $30 for 5 days, the safety deposit box in the closet is only available if you pay for it kinda lame. The other thing that was some what annoying that they didn't clean our room until about 5 each night while we were trying to get changed for dinner. The food there was awesome, if you eat at the restaurants that are available for the grand members or the black wrist bands. The other thing that we loved was grey line transportation down in the conceriege area. We booked all our tours through them and it was great. It was fun, but I think next time we would stay at a hotel with less of the loud party crowd and a little newer.

Good place to go if u like to party.
Hotel grounds and pools were very nice but not impressed with our room. In room mini bar only allowed two waters, two beers, and two pop per day without charge. Food was really good especially the Happy Chicken and Steak restaurants.

Everything we were looking for and more.
The whole plan for this vacation was to just relax and the Grand Oasis proved a great place to do so. Everything from the easy early check-in, very clean rooms and extremely polite staff that work very hard in every aspect to the resort. Nice variations in the food for which you desire at any time of the day. Only negative... no chips and salsa anywhere.

Worst Resort in 30 Years of Travel
I have been traveling for 30 years throughout the U.S. and Carribean and have never been inclined to write a review but this was by far the worst resort I have ever stayed at. The food was atrocious, bordering on inedible. Apparently this is the off-season (December) so only about 1/2 of their advertised restaurants were open but I don't think it would have mattered. We tried a different one each time hoping the next one would get better and it didn't. I won't go so far as to say the staff is rude but they certainly weren't friendly either nor very helpful. Forget getting your minibar stocked or clean towels unless you manage to see the employees in the hall and ask them directly. And this is even after tipping the maid! If you have the opportunity to "purchase" the U.S. credit to use while at the resort, DON'T. It's just their coupon booklet which was practically useless. We spent $49 U.S. dollars at the time of booking and it ended up saving us less than $5 to "rent" a lock for the safety deposit box. If you wanted to use it towards a massage, you could get about $18 off but it would still cost you $60 plus a tip so where was the savings? They make it sound like you can use the entire $300 all at once. The rooms were dirty and smelled musty which is true of a lot of resorts in Cancun because of the constant moisture. I will give them a thumbs up on their pools, they were very nice and clean and the beach area at this resort is fantastic. It's just a shame that they don't put in the effort to make the experience better. Also, if you like your sleep at night, good luck. When the bars close, the young crowd brings the party back to their rooms/halls. Between 2:00am and 4:00am were the worst. One day the showers were scalding and the next day, there was no hot water at all. There's more but I think you get the picture. I would never go back or recommend this resort to anyone.
