Gran Melia

Great hotel for the price! The only downside is that when it rains the hotel can be a bit leaky. Our hotel floor would get wet just a tad bit. Just throw down extra towels from room service and your good. another downside was the smell of kitchen blowing into our room from the outside. They may need to change where they pump out the kitchen exhaust. But overall beautiful hotel and great staff. The photos don't lie. the food at the buffet was really good, and the beach front is amazing. sucks they don't serve drinks beach side, you have to walk up the steps and go pool side.

Go check out Aqua World across the street. The snorkeling tour was really awesome. And the guy at the Oxxo store out front sells cheaper packages for tours to Chichen Itza.

Wonderful

I've never had an easier vacation. The only thing I would do differently is to do the all-inclusive, which was not advertised on the site I booked with. Staff were phenomenal... so helpful and nice. Beach was beautiful... entertainment was awesome.

Best Value...best service; hands down!

A must-do if you enjoy luxury, great food and perfect views! Stay on the red level and book the inclusive package- definitely worth the money, as it covers all meals and drinks, even room service. Fourth time in Cancun, but never quite like this. I was apprehensive when I read the mixed reviews, but the service was so great, I am taking my mother and my children before the end of the summer. Red level service is 5-star, from the welcome cocktail to the butler service and the attentive concierge. Treated me like a queen....and helped me to celebrate my solo birthday trip with special touches. Caution: book tours ahead through the independent activity sites as pushy commissioned sales agents inflate prices in the hotel. Visit Mercado 28 and local water parks.

Cheap

We didn't add all inclusive, but never knew that meant no local calls to be able to make, water & coffee in the room were 10 times over priced than Cancun downtown price, fridge use was US $10 a day, internet connection was US $11 an hour but didn't last full 1 hour, there is no washing machine available for us to wash swimming suits. Currency Exchange lady was rude & beach was not safe to go in with high & strong waves, I don't recommend this hotel at all.

Outstanding Vacation

This was the best vacation I had for a long time. I was in Cancun a few years ago but nothing compares to this trip. Everything was excellent. I am planning a future trip to the same hotel with the entire family next year the same time. I know for a fact that it will be well worth it for everyone.

Do not miss the breakfast buffet, it looks more like a lunch rather than breakfast. Also, on a different note, do not miss the trip to Xcaret and to Chichenitza pyramids. The Eco massage was great!!!

Cancun Getaway

My husband, my one year old son and I stayed here from May 8th-13th. We had an ocean view room and did the all inclusive program, which we loved. Yes. There are things that are not included and it wasn't a big deal. Our elevator was not working in building 1, which wouldn't have been a big deal if we didn't have to haul our stroller up and down 4 flights of stairs. My husband suggested I request a different room, which I did. They upgraded us to a Junior Suite in building 4. It had two queen beds instead of the king bed but was so much bigger and closer to all of our other family that was traveling with us. We moved the beds together and they weren't perfectly matched up. The next day, the maid moved the beds together & made it one big perfect bed and moved the table to the side for us and kept it that way for our entire stay. One couple in our group had a one bedroom lagoon view and it was huge and very nice with 2 baths, a large wrap around balcony & had a nice view of the lagoon. The ice machine near our new room was out of order. I was walking back to my room near the Quetzal buffet and asked a random employee if she could tell me where the nearest ice machine was and she asked me for my room number. 10 minutes later, I had ice delivered to me! One other issue - the little ants. We brought formula for our little one and on the 5th day I woke up to our formula with little ants in it! I should have kept the container in a plastic bag. I never saw any ants until then. I called to ask for help because I needed to feed the little guy. They got us a brand new container of our formula by lunch time! Yes. some things were not perfect but they went out of there way to make it right. I was very happy. It is another country and those things could happen in the U.S. too! Our whole group, which included a few vegetarians, loved the food. It was by far the best all inclusive food we've had - anywhere! To clear up any confusion - WI-FI IS included with the all inclusive package and I worked on my IPhone from the Bali bed by the pool or surfed the internet in my room and it worked pretty well. We did rent a Bali bed daily - $25 - nice to have a home base for our large group. The servers came by as much as we wanted (we tipped a decent amount). We ate at Tempo - it was very good but I couldn't deal with the 2.5 hours it took to complete the meal. Kunah was a pleasant meal as well. It was easy to get reservations. Nami - the sushi place, has a limited menu but we enjoyed the sushi they had. There was a Mexican Theme night on Friday at La Perla. The food was good and the show was not overly impressive but it entertained my son. The lobby bar had some entertainment and was only open until midnight, which was fine with me. The weather was perfect every day. One day we did get talked into playing beach volley ball, salsa lessons by the pool, bingo & water basketball, all fun and spearheaded by the pool entertainment crew. We would have played more beach volleyball but it didn't seem there were many interested people, nor did they organize it other than that one day. Check out was a breeze. They did charge us for M&M's that we did not eat. I told them we did not take them & they removed them from our bill, no problem. If you are thinking about upgrading from Lagoon view to Ocean view - do it before you finalize your reservation. It was a small fee to upgrade ($75) for the whole week, on-line, but at the hotel - it was like $80/day! The all inclusive is the same - so much more expensive to do it after you book a regular room. Do it with the original reservation or it will really cost you. Overall, it was a great trip & the hotel was wonderful. I'd be happy staying there again.

Go to The Veranda at lunch - you can order Skirt Steak, Filet or Grilled Shrimp, to name a few items, and it was really good! Most people didn't even know that lunch menu existed on the all inclusive!

Beautiful Honeymoon

My husband and I just got back from a 7 night stay at the Gran Melia Cancun, and we had the most wonderful experience. The staff was incredibly helpful, and they treated us very well. Also, they are a resort that sells vacation packages, so you will get a card on the first day that says you have a welcome package, which is really, if you do a timeshare presentation, we'll give you X,Y, Z. My husband let them know from the very beginning that we weren't interested, but they told us to do it for the incentives, and that they know not everyone will buy. Since we had nothing planned for that day, we went ahead and did it. It was well worth it since we got $150 US in vouchers to spend at the hotel on food and beverage and a 2 for 1 discount at the Spa. We also joined their MAS points program for a 2 for 1 buffet breakfast everyday we were there. The service was impeccable, even after we did not buy the vacation club. We also did not feel pressured nor were we treated badly after saying no to the timeshare. The staff continued to help us throughout the week and even gave us tips on how to save $ during the trip. We ate at the Quetzal restaurant, and enjoyed a hearty (and delicious!) buffet breakfast almost everyday . Our last night, we ate at the Kuh-Nah restaurant for a very romantic and special dinner with the most delicious meal. Overall, we really enjoyed the stay at the Gran Melia, and hope to go back soon.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the local transportation R-1 or R-2 bus to go up and down the hotel zone. You will find plenty of restaurants, shopping centers, and can take the busses to explore downtown Cancun, or find the Ferry to Isla Mujeres or take the ADO bus, which will take you to Playa del Carmen/Ferries to Cozumel. Don't take taxi's they are expensive!

Best vacation ever!

It was our first time in cancun, and it was way better then I had imagine. Grand Melia was gorgeous great location, very clean luxury room. Good service! I would recomend getting an allinclusive packet since food tgere is pricey about $70 per meal for 2, even water bottles are about 7 dollars each. I had a blast I would totally stay there again, I loved it. The beach is very private, and life guards act fast!! I felt very comfortable staying there with my girlfriend, very gay friendly!! Very clean rooms with great ocean views.

Very beautiful hotel

The interior and exterior is gorgeous! The staff was extremely friendly. Everything was taken care of quickly including check-in, check-out, and fixing a broken hair dryer. There are a few restaurants around the hotel and directly outside the hotel, making it convenient to find food if you're not on the all inclusive plan. The Marriott next door also house a few restaurants as well. The only complaint I have are these tiny bugs that are everywhere. They got all over our luggage but don't seem to pose a threat.
