One complaint
Great experience. Was supposed to get a free sunset cruise from booking. Greyline gave us a time at checkin but did not pick us up. Could not reach them and did not ever get to go on the sunset cruise. Never saw anyone from Greyline again, they did not pick us up for return transportation.

Best. Resort. Ever.
Don't listen to any negative reviews about this hotel. This is our second stay here, and it's even better than the first visit. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is excellent, and the staff is more than accomodating. The ONLY negative thing I could ever say, is that they charge for internet service...and it's quite spendy. And if you use your cell service on your smart phone to connect to Facebook...Verizon charges 5 bucks for every Megabyte...so it doesn't take long to rack up a bill on your cell. The internet stations in the lobby were painfully slow...and it cost 5.00 for 30 minutes. the problem was it took about 10 minutes just to open our email..So if I have to say something bad, that would be it. Someone was always cleaning something..windows..floors...painting... Take advantage of all the restaurants....the service and food is amazing. The breakfast/lunch buffet is ok, but take some time to wait at a specialty station and order something from their menu off the wall. They have an Italian station, Chinese, and Mexican and they will make you whatever you want if the buffet doesn't have something for you. You can get a snack at the Breeze cafe right off the pool all day long...he will make you a burger, or hot dog...whatever you want..and there are fries, nachos, cheese and all the fixins so you can help yourself. They certainly don't skimp on the alcohol in the drinks, either. We had to ask them to tone them down a bit. We had a Club room with jacuzzi and mini bar. The mini bar just had beer, water, pop and juice. But it was nice to have a can of beer instead of draft, which is all they have at the bars. They even have a crepe station in the lobby that's open from 5-8pm. She will make you any kind of crepe you want, with whipped cream and all...awesome! Shopping at the La Isla Mall is just a 20 minute walk out the door. We love this mall because it's not a flea market...I hate being harrassed when I shop. Aqua World is also just a six block walk....this is where many excursions leave from. So this hotel is a great location. As for the entertainment...never a dull moment! Carlos and Denise are awesome...everyone in our group won a shirt...because they participated in all the fun games...trivia...volley ball...canoe challenge...great days at the pool.. Also make sure you take advantage of the shows at the theatre.. The Michael Jackson impersonator was awesome! They serve drinks there as well...it's just a great time. We can't wait to go back...I have nothing but good things to say about this place..I just wish they would include internet in the room fee....

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
Take the 20 minute walk to the La Isla Mall. There is a couple of Mexican shops in there that have the same items they have at the flea market, without the hassel of the vendors. The hotel also has a nice gift shop with many of the same items, we found them to be even cheaper, and they are right there next the the buffet restaurant. :) We got T-shirts for everyone for 6 bucks, and shot glasses for 1.50.

Not SO GOLDEN
I was just ok i was expecting more.. the food choices were much to be desired. Everytime we would order something they would say sorry were out of that now. Wow nice all inclusive, the drinks were nice if you dont speak spanish good luck getting an answer to your question not really friendly. I usually do not write bad reviews but this is 1 hotel i will gladly skip next time and not reccomend to anybody.

Disappointed But Good Thing There Was A
I must say I was quite disappointed with the hotel I stayed at. Compared to the Omni hotel where I have stayed multiple times in Cancun Mexico, the Golden falls way short. To start off, I did not understand the lighting in the room and specifically in the bathroom. There was this large bathroom and only one light above the counter/sink which barely gave out light. I could not even shave properly because I had to angle my face according to the light to see if I got all areas. In general, the lighting was poor and minimal in the rest of the room. I was also surprised that there was no refridgerator present. There were also 2 bottles of water placed each day in the room but the water bottles were so small that it was not barely enough to quench my thirst (and that was supposed to be for 2 people?). I was also puzzled by the accordian player who was playing music around 7PM in the lobby but the floors are open in the middle so any sounds from the lobby come up. I don't think listening to accordian music at 7pm while trying to take a nap before dinner is ideal. Luckily the beach was excellent and so was the weather. The bartenders were all great and accommodating. Another disappointment was the food. The Old Barn which was supposed to be like a steakhouse overcooked my meat each time I was there and it was freezing in there. The Japanese restaurant was decent but their dishes and portions were so small that we had to order and request 2 of each. The breakfast was very disappointing because you had to wait for everything to be cooked. While you wait for your eggs your pancakes get cold or vice versa. Service for breakfast was almost non-existant except for 1 guy we saw there. I can't even count how many times I had to get up and get water to start off breakfast. Funny though, when we were done, we were asked if we needed coffee or water. A little late, no? The pool was a bit puzzling as well. We wanted to play volleyball but it was stopped due to some arobics to be held. Couldn't the arobics be moved to the other side of the pool? Lastly, when we first arrived in the room, no information about the hotel or restaurants, no remote to the TV (almost all Spanish channels), no pencil or pen. no pad, no nothing. The room service menu was in the drawer. So much for providing valuable information to the guest. Also, it was hard to control the air conditioner, the numbers on the dial were worn off so we could not tell which way to turn the dial and how far. Other than the room being clean each day, what a waste of money. All in all, the two of us were disappointed in the hotel and the food. My friend who came with me was her first time in Mexico, what a disppointment for her.

Not as plentiful as before
Food was good, but they have cut back on different foods they used to put out for breakfast and lunch. Top shelf liquor is only available at the Shangrala restaurant, improvements they made to hotel are nice. We have stayed there 5 times.Better liquor would be a plus, and putting out more food. They need to have more night entertainment

Great Value
I traveled with a friend. I've been to many all inclusive resorts. Some were better some were worse. The Golden is a great value! There were mostly couples at this resort, a few women and families and the Spring breakers came in towards the end of our stay. It is a smaller resort, therefore, we got to know several of the guests and had a blast. Restaraunts were good. No reservations needed. Always plenty of pool and beach chairs available. Service was awesome. They work hard! Beach is beautiful and big. There were not a ton of activities, but enough to keep things exciting during the day, however not much at night. There is a Sixties bar which was fun on kereoke night and one other night had a fun crowd. The rest of the week it was empty. There were only 2 shows in the theatre during our week and we missed both of them. Food was available 24/7 and delicious. Bus trip to downtown was only $1. Nice and relaxing.Bring your own insulated cup. Will definitely return. Good value!
