Worst Hotel I've Ever Stayed Out in Mexico!

This hotel is simply awful. The food was absolutely indelible- it was as if they had certain ingredients around and just used them for food whether they went together of not! We paid for an oceanfront room, but got one facing the street-- that was a first for us in Cancun!! All of the members of the timeshare get ALL the best rooms & there are only 8 rooms with balconies!! It has so many things wrong, I can't possibly list them all. Please think before you book this one! There are soooooooo many nicer hotels in Cancun- don't stay here!! It was the first time in 8 years visiting Mexico that I couldn't wait to leave and go home-- my husband couldn't believe it!! The only thing this pace has going for it is the staff. We loved Adriana at the timeshare group. The sweet girl at the inside bar-- Gabriella (?) was too nice!! The waiters at the pool were great, too!

BORING!

WE HAD VISITED 2 YRS AGO AT A DIFFERENT HOTEL DOWN THE BEACH AND HAD A GREAT TIME IN CANCUN. THIS HOTEL WAS VERY BORING WITH NO AMENITIES EXCEPT A POOL. BEST SUITED FOR A MORE "MATURE" AGED VISITOR. ROOMS WERE MUSTY AND DARK BUT CLEAN. FOOD AND SERVICE WAS VERY GOOD. THIS HOTEL IS BEST FOR SLEEPING AND RELAXING. THE HOTEL THAT CAN BE USED NEXT DOOR IS MUCH MORE EXCITING.

Just okay.....

Positives: staff is very nice overall, pool and beach are fine, although there is no pool bar (there is one at the connecting sister hotel). Rooms are decent. Negative: Rooms with views are designed awkwardly (2-3 windows but they are relatively small), too much furniture...makes room feel smaller. Food is subpar, especially if you are vegetarian. All restuarants seem to serve the same food, just different names or itirations. Bar makes good mixed drinks but alcohol quality is low.

Nothing Special, but beach is nice

The beach is great and it's right by the airport, which are the main pros about the property. Here are a couple of cons to be aware of: -- Our room smelled like rotten eggs/sewage. We called, they "fixed" and it still smelled like it. We ended up closing the door to the bathroom so that the room remained decent. -- Food is terrible and I mean terrible. Fruit was nice, but really everything else was poorly made, cold, etc. -- Staff is hit or miss. Some folks were nice, and others were weird. Having traveled to Mexico before, we were aware of the timeshare, aka, "concierge" scheme they try and after several firm "no's" to their hounds, they finally left us alone. -- We did like that it was a smaller hotel rather than the larger properties, so no fighting for beach chairs, etc. Pool is small and it was crowded, but we hung out mostly at the beach. -- Drinks were also terrible (LOL). We just decided that we'll drink at home. Overall, it's okay. Location is nice, food and rooms...not so much. If you keep your expectations low, you'll be fine.

Hop on the bus and take it to the flea market. It's about a $1 ride and they have lots of cute items to bring home for friends and family.

Beautiful Hotel but....

The hotel was lovely. The decor just gorgeous. We cant complain about the aesthetics. However, the concierge desk and the rest of the staff needs some work. We were not properly informed of where to eat and wound up eating at their sister hotels buffet on a daily basis for every meal of our trip. The food there was HORRIBLE and tasteless. It was honestly a chore to eat because everything lacked flavor. We did not discover that we could eat at a closer restaurant located within the GR Caribe until the morning we left. Oh and the complimentary lobster dinner is nothing to brag about. It was very bland tasting and rubber like in texture. Our second biggest complaint was that the hot tub was kept at a very chilly temp. It was lukewarm at best and when we complained they told us that they would not increase the temp. Very rude, especially considering how much we paid to stay there. Communicating with the staff was impossible, as they did not speak a word of English. Often times we had to do without things we needed because we simply could not traverse the language barrier.

good relaxing vacation

If your looking for corona dont stay here. Staff is excellent and ready to serve you. Most of the food is below average. Dont expect good desserts. Bonaventi restraunt is the best restaraunt. Room service is fantastic but dont order the burger. Tasted horrible and was the size of a piece of taylor ham. Did not have any hotel activities. Was supposed to have bingo everyday but only had it on the day we left.

Very relxed atmosphere and great service

This was my first trip outside of the united states. The trip: people, hotel, and atmosphere was great. I recommend venturing out and seeing all of the sites along the hotel zone. The GR Caribe is at one of the strip and there are plenty of restuarants, a mall, and clubs at the other end. We found out out from a lovely activities director that it was completely safe and inexpensive to take a bus. You dont fully experience Cancun unless you venture out. I am a picky eater, so I was a little disappointed with the menu. I expected a variety to choose from. An all-inclusive stay is completely worth it if you like trying new things. The menu changes daily with a certain theme.

Good Value

Overall it was a good hotel and a good value. It was not a typical hotel. More laid back and less formal. None of the typical hotel features such as attentive bellman, lots of front desk staff or a concierge (This post was staffed by the hotel sales staff). Generally, the staff was friendly, attentive and always seemed to want to help. The rooms were large and airy, but the beds were too hard. The housekeeping staff that took care of the rooms were wonderful. There were a couple of other issues. The front desk was never staffed properly. Only one person at any one time. There was always a long wait for things. The hotel sales staff were VERY pushy and aggressive trying to push the club--they had no concierge, just sales people who weren't interested in helping unless it was to upgrade to their club. One even called us at 7am to ask if we would attend their promotional breakfast!! The beach was very small and red-flagged the entire week we were there while other neighboring hotels had yellow or green flags. It was probably due to the rocks just under the surface, but it was unnerving. The beach chairs were adequate but in need of cleaning on the beach and around the pool. Overall the all-inclusive package was a good value, but the food was average at the buffets. I stayed at the Marriott previously and missed the professionalism and adequate staff. I also missed staff that could understand English well.
