poor housekeeping

I paid for more and got less. I had a junior suite that was nasty,dirty..I called housekeeping every day and sometimes someone would show up,,,they never washed down the counters or anything, it was dirty,,,and they had roaches. The food choice was very limited, not very good at all..The area was good.Very easy to catch a bus,the beach for this hotel was very small and if it was high tide,,there was no beach.I had to call everyday for washclothes, the room smelled like mildew. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Do not Stay

The rooms were substandard and we did not feel safe amongst the other guests. We immediately found another hotel and stayed there. I would not have any of my family or friends stay at this motel as it does not attract a very good group of people.

Horrible...Horrible !!!... DON'T GO

The Flamingo Hotel was the worse experience that I have had ever and I really travel a lot. The service was horrible, the room was dirty, smelly and in very poor condition. I now understand why it seems to be such a good deal (price wise) but the truth is that It is not worth it. I ended up leaving two hrs after I checked in. Before I left I placed a complaint in the back of the checkout sheet.

not friendly and disorganize

Flamingo Cancun Resort & Plaza, CANCUN, Mexico. Was a nightmare of a place. The manager will talk bad of you in front of his employees and thanks god I spoke Spanish. When it comes to helping the customer they really suck, I couldn't even get into my own room and I had paid for the service. The food sucks, the rooms aren't that clean. So, if you want to spend money, be treated like third class citizen and exploited please go ahead and stay in this awful place.

good location, lousy hotel

Our need to get out of the cold combined with a bad economy here in the Northeast US had me searching for deals. Cancun is close (about 3 hours by plane), safe, clean, and usually quite accomodating. The Flamingo was a low price with a decent (not great) bunch of reviews. Booked and stayed 2/8/09-2/15/09. First, Orbitz showed a "special" allowing those of us not choosing all inclusive to have 10% off all food and drink. DIDN'T happen. The hotel denied any knowledge even after I offered to show them the ad on Orbitz. Then I asked about the free wireless internet. Again, no idea by the hotel staff. In fact, I was told it did not exist. Fortunatly, a few days later, another guest informed us it was available, but ONLY in the hotel lobby. The smaller restaurant, by the beach was a nice value with good food at lunch. The larger buffet restaurant was open for breakfast, lunch, dinner; not very good at all. The food, except for the fruit, always looked recycled, and sometimes tasted like it. The room had its own set of problems. I only wish I could upload pictures here. First, I had "upgraded" to an ocean view junior suite. What they don't tell you, is it is downstairs, on the lowest level of the hotel. I'll admit, the view was spectacular from the terrace and the ocean sounds were great all night. But the lower level has lower level problems. First the bathroom ceiling tile had what looked to be black mold. We both developed a nasty cough since staying there. Also in the bathroom it looked like more mold was simply painted over and it was working its way out of the paint layer. The shower drain would always back up, leaving you standing in 4 inches of wash water. The toilet always leaked and between the toilet tank and the base was a sturdy piece of cardboard wedged to try to prevent this leaking. It did not work. The room kept a musty, moldy smell unless you kept the patio door open for long periods. There was no latch strike plate so you couldn't lock the bathroom. The room door's strike plate was very loose requiring a sturdy pull or push to make the door lock. The cleaning crew did not bother to pull the door causing our room to be left open throughout the day, unless we happened to come back to the room. There was a small refrigerator in the room. The bottom door had some kind of reddish brown and black substance. The floors were always moist and sort of slimy. Housekeeping was sporatic. Sometimes they would bring you hand towels, sometimes not. Washcloths must have been in short supply; we got one the first day which was taken back the second. Didn't see another until our last day. One glass in the room; it took 3 days of begging the staff to get another. I happen to know the sheets were never changed, just put back on. Too few chairs at the pools, usually all "taken" before 8am. No hot tub. All of this and pictures were taken to the front desk staff and the next day to the manager. In fact we took it there a couple of times. We were told, "sorry" and someone would "fix" it. Eventually they did replace to tile, make the door shut, and stop the toilet leaking. The rest was left. The staff had no sympathy and offered no recompense for our problems and refused to change our room. Guess they don't care if someone comes back or if there are bad reviews. Think I'll stay elsewhere for my Yankee dollars from now on.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Use the Cancun bus system. 6.5 or 7 pesos each way, depending on what driver you have. It will take you all around in relative comfort and safety. Also, try the Argentinian Big Steak house at the Point; Cambalache!(a bit pricy but great food)

watch out for the staff

the location of this hotel was very convenient very clean unfortunatly the male staff was disrespectful the manager completely arrogant and uncooperative saying that whatever agreements he made over the phone about accomodations were strictly verbal not written in stone and therefore he could easily change his mind once i was there that i couldnt do anything about it. very disaqppointed with him. he was the manager - can you imagine how disrespectful the rest of the staff was.

find another place to stay, with a beach

the Flamingo was "fishy" from the instant we got there. The bell boy managed to "pocket" our room key. Luckily I realized and ran after him and demanded it back.( You need to ask for the lock to use the safe in your room. They tried to make me pay for the lock, I did not.) From then on out we used chairs at night to baracade the doors. Nice, huh. Also, once they realized that my spouse was not with me and we could not purchase a condo from them we were not pertinent to them in any way what so ever. I mean what so ever. The main desk help was rude, and unhelpful pretending not to speak English to us. But the next people they spoke perfectly with. This was because we purchased all of our trips outside of the Flamingo lobby. We actually booked before we arrived in Cancun. At much cheaper prices I might add. We tried to have tickets delivered to the hotel and they kept denying any knowledge of them until I contacted the company and he called the hotel. For the 1st 3 nights there were no soaps in the bath. we purchased our own. we recieved bottled water only one day. the sink didnt work, the phone didnt work, the t.v. clicker didn't work. We were next door to the owner's "private" room where workers came and went constantly. There was a door leading to our room which we baracaded. so what else do you want to know?

Awful Awful Awful! READ THIS

We tried to stay out of the Flamingo as much as possible. If you choose to stay at this resort, do the all inclusive because if you don't, the hotel staff treats you like dirt and babysits you to make sure no one is giving you free anything. At one point the staff asked us to not talk to the friends we made who were all inclusive. The rooms were dirty and the their were so many complaints about items missing. The restaurant food was absolutely disgusting. This hotel was absolutely awful and I hope you take this review into huge consideration. This was my second trip to Cancun and this time around was ruined by the Flamingo Resort.

Money-saving tip: Long walk from hotel

Walk a lot, and save money by partying at the Bars that don't have a cover charge. Grocery stores are good to stock up on food also instead of wasting money at restaurants all day.
