Very Nice Rooms but lacking a few Points
Chris in DC Dec 2, 2009
This hotel is really very beautiful and rooms quite nice -- very spacious, nice large bathroom, good TV with quite a few ... American channels, nice balcony with good view (I think all rooms have a water view). The food in the restaurants was pretty good that I had (except the coffee in the breakfast cafe was very bad). The bed was a bit too firm for me, but I could sleep, it wasn't as bad as some Mexican hotels where it is like a slab of concrete. The main issues I have with this hotel that just some cheap for the level it is are that they charge you for coffee in the room (they provide a coffeemaker) at US$3 a bag! Never heard of such a thing in places that have a coffeemaker. They also don't give you a free welcome bottle of water in the room or anything like that as some nice hotels do. They have repeated in the room instructions that you are not allowed to bring in any food/beverage you didn't buy from them (even a bottle of water) and make the laughable statement that this is for "health and sanitary reasons". Again, this is just cheap and tacky, to claim you aren't allowed to buy a bottle of water and bring it to your room. I can understand not wanting messy food in the room, but the idea that a can of Coke is somehow unsanitary if you buy it at the convenience store next door but healthy if you buy if from their minibar is absurd. Those kind of nickel and diming tactics just detract from their general atmosphere and make them seem cheap. They also didn't have a very good tour/activities area or people, which surprised me. Other modest hotels I've stayed at had better suggestions and brochures for day tour companies and things. I also thought naively that the hotel, since it had its own pool and beach area, would offer perhaps their own snorkeling lessons or something, which I wanted--but they didn't. Anyway, all in all, the location is very convenient and the hotel beautiful, so I don't regret staying there at all and would again, but these few things are why I don't give it top ratings, which to me means perfect. There were also some noisy people in the hotel above me who seems to be moving furniture and running around at all hours, and the staff was noisy in the hallway, although I don't know how the hotel can solve noisy people issue (but they can tell their own staff to be quiet). The hotel also has dress codes for the restaurants, which is fine, but factually, they don't enforce them to the standards they set, so don't worry (ie, the nice restaurant Joya claims the dress code is "casual informal" which is about anything but shorts, etc. and says denim is not appropriate, but there were people in there wearing jeans).

Wonderful Staff
Happy Travelers Nov 8, 2009
Our second time staying here and it was as fantastic as we remember. First class service. EVERYONE is friendly and can not do ... enough for you. Everything about this hotel is first class. Meals were outstanding and again service was outstanding. Our only complaint about the restaurants was the limited selection if you want something other than fish but what they had was great. Our only other (small) complaint was internet service. You have to purchase internet time (why?) and navigating through the sign in is not user friendly.

Excellent. This was a wonderful experience that exceeded our expectations. Location was perfect. The beach was perfect. ... Great night life within walking distance. World class dining within 10 minute drives. Hotel staff was very attentive, provided excellent service, were impeccably groomed, and catered to our requests. And that included everyone from the valet to [...], many who we came to know by name. I was very impressed.L, my finance, has stayed at many 5 star hotels throughout Chicago, Florida and the Carribean, and declared this was the finist she had ever been to, and was pleased with the range of activitieis available and was equally impresssed with the service. i did not feel we were excessively pressured for additional services or activities.

Missing Mexico Sep 24, 2009
We only stayed one night at this beautiful hotel but we will definitely return! We were greeted with fresh fruit cocktails ... upon entering the hotel and after check-in we were escorted to our room overlooking the ocean. We spent time both on the beach and at the pool and at all times we were well attended by the hotel staff. We had lunch delivered to us on the beach and the food was delicious. After enjoying the view of the ocean from our room we went to dinner at the Mexican restaurant La Joya. Along with the fantastic service and even better food we enjoyed live mariachi music and ballet folklorico throughout our dinner. Our only regret about our stay was its short length!

i needed a fax from my personal computer, email it to us, no problem, it's our pleasure. the safety deposit boxed is locked, ... we lost the code, no problem we'll send someone right away, its our pleasure. my child had a dump and a half and it overflowed the bathroom, no problem right away someone came and again our pleasure to serve. safety deposit box another mishap again no problem, its my pleasure...and that's what made this trip more special than others...from the beginning they greeted us, to the time we departed, it was their pleasure to serve, no attitude, just top flight service, never once was i or any of my family members were made to feel uncomfortable, they were there to please...the hotel came with a 25% discount on all food, beverage, and spa packages and we took advantage of all the hotel amenities...and it was worth it. the spa rivaled new york to LA, awesome experience. we attained baby sitting service through the hotel inorder to have a couple of free nights out. the concierge was great with suggestions of dining out and always express service. kids under 12 ate free...they had a great time. although the one half of the hotel we stayed at had a low occupancy rate and while the other half was under construction(hardly noticeable)...for us it made it even better, there seemed to be even more service...they we're open and aimed to please...again, no problems and it was our pleasure to have stayed there.

The hotel offered taxi service. We hired a taxi driver who took us to different places including downtown Cancun to shop. He waited for my daughter and me the whole time. This hotel was in a great location. It took us literally 4 minutes to walk to the main club and bar zone. The beach was ... amazing, and the pool was great too. The staff was great, they really treated us like we were royalty. The only downside was that the hotel didn't have any activities for the guests. We walked over to the hotel next door and they had bingo, water aerobics, etc. It would have been nice to have a few things to do besides laying by the beach or the pool, but it was still a great experience.

We recommend the short bus trip over to the ferry at Playa Tortugas where you can get tickets to visit the beaches, small shops and restaurants on Isla Muheres. Our limited Spanish speaking was welcomed and where we needed to use English that was fine too. However, at the airport be careful not to sign up for an unwanted time share presentation.
--First Time Visitor to Cancun Hotel Zone, Oakland, CA Apr 22, 2009
The hint here is that shopping and dining business are open until 9:00 or 11:00 p.m. but the drinking and dancing doesn't get rolling until about 11:30 p.m.-12:00a.m. The reason.....the party places are open until 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning. That only means you get to lounge a little longer by the beautiful pool or beach which was fine by us.
--KC, MI Apr 22, 2009
Don't use the coffee maker in the room. I thought it was complimentary (usually it is), however, they charged us about $6.00 for the coffee pouches that were in the room. It's part of the mini bar. The hotel should just offer complimentary coffee and tea in the room when they charge these prices.
--Katmo1864, Los Angeles, CA Mar 3, 2009
One tip, if you stay in this hotel make sure you request a room in the west tower which is closer to everything: pool, restaurants, lobby and just about everything else you need. If you are in the east tower prepare for longs walks to get to anything in the hotel
