We looked for a place to rest, watch the ocean and be pampered for a relationship recharging getaway. We were not ... disappointed in any way! When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with a glass of champagne and the words, "Welcome, home." That's not how it works at our home but it was a great start to a vacation. We had no complaints during our stay and would rank this trip (our second to Excellence) at the top of the all-inclusive resort brands we have visited so far including Dreams, Iberostar and Occidental Grand.

The hotel and staff were very good. The all inclusive had plenty of food and drinks however, the drinks were weak and the ... food quality just OK. But the hotel and rooms were perfect and I would definately go back. Service was mostly good. Sometimes they were slow (Mexico mintues versus US mintues) and sometimes they forgot your orders. But most of the time they were good.

Barb Dec 2, 2009
Overall, this was a great vacation. The staff, for the most part, was very friendly and welcoming. I definitley recommend the ... Excellence experience. The rooms did smell a little musty and the beach was not very nice, but if you are looking to lay by the pool or ocean and enjoy some drinks, this is a great resort. The food quality depends on where you go. I would not recommend the Flavor Market, but I highly recommend Chex Isabelle. There is lots to do at the resort, but if you are staying for a week, I would do one or two excursions. We did Chichen Itza (a long day, but well worth it) and also the Selvatica Zipline which was awesome.

Just 3 days there but managed to relax by the pool, enjoy the great room, it was our anniversary so there was champagne in ... the room waiting for us. The lunch and breakfast buffets were great - a wide selection and it was all extremely fresh. Entertainment in the evenings was very good - very much enjoyed the Michael Jackson show. Drank lots of alcohol - the cocktails were great and kept on coming. Would recommend this resort to friends and family.

The location was very nice, removed from the noise and bustle of Cancun which we don't really care for. The staff could not ... have been any nicer and took care of all our needs. I will say that the room service breakfast stayed in the x-box a little longer than I expected and should have been removed the next day.The grounds were beautiful and the food was excellent. It seemed as though the whole staff was there to please you. The spa was beautiful and one of the best that I have used. The time of the season was just perfect - not too many people- and the weather was great. Everywhere you looked the staff was busy working on something to make the resort a first class area. Truly satisified as much as you can be to the extent that all 8 of us plan to return next year.

Best value for your money
Monkey-man Nov 22, 2009
My wife and I have been travelling to Mexico for the past 15 years staying at several resorts and this was by far the best ... value for the money. The resort caters to what you are looking for; peace and quiet = yes; drinking / partying = yes; Good food and great drinks = yes; nightlife from an on the beach lounge to a dance club, game rooms, live entertainment, etc.... the spa is top notch, staff as friendly as can be and will go out of their way to make sure you are catered to. A couple of things to note: the pillows are uncomfortable; the bathroom is of glass so your partner will see & hear everything. Overall this resort exceeded every expectation we had for our vacation and our expectations are high since we have always favored Royal Hideaway....but I think that has now changed to EPM!

One recommendation is not to waste money on the swim up rooms....you'll never use and the standard room is exactly the same and for less money.

Excellence Playa Mueres Review Nov 20, 2009
We stayed on the resort most of the time and enjoyed the beach, pool, and dining. The only small thing missing was that they ... did not have ESPN...therefore I missed the Nebraska game, but that was not that important. This was by far the best trip I have ever taken, my biggest mistake was not staying longer.

PRONUNSIATION: Resort-(MOO-HAIR-IS) The Island (EZ-LA MOO-HAIR-IS)We stayed(10 days)at Excellence 09-23-09 to ... 10-03-09.My hubby and I had the time of our lives. We wanted to stay and live there for the rest of our lives. LOL....NITGH LIFE: If you are looking for a place that has a dance club or a night club then this not the place for you. This is a relaxing/laid back place. Don't get me wrong, it is allot of fun, but the hotel shuts down around 11:00pm.AIRLINES: So I'll start with our plane ride to Mexico. We flew Mexicana Airlines on the way down. When we were on the plane we found out that all of your food and drinks are included in your flight. No extra charge. I'm telling you that's the way to fly. When we got to the Airport we bought two beers and drank them in the van on our way to the resort. When our beer was gone we asked the drive for more beer, so he stopped at a store along the way and we bought a 6pack. I though that was very nice of the driver to make that stop for us. We tipped him very well.ARIVEL: When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with the wonderful Lavender smelling cold towel for your neck and a glass on champagne. WOW,That was the best thing after a long day of travel. When my champagne was gone they asked me what I wanted to drink. yeah of course I said a beer. They brought it to me right away. What great service. We booked the honeymoon package with the dinner on the Beach, Breakfast in bed and the Spa/massage treatment. I am so glad we did, it is so worth it. We liked the massage that was included in our honeymoon package so much we booked the couples massage, which was well worth the extra money as well. ROOMS: Our room was cleaned everyday around the same time, around 9:00 to 10:00am. We were on the third floor. I believe they start on the top floor everyday and work their way down to ground floor. So for the people that say their room wasn't clean till late in the day, it's probably because the were on the bottom floor. The maid service did a wonderful job. We left our toys in the bathroom sink a couple times and they didn't seemed bothered by it, so neither were we. We were pleaded with the room setup. But DO NOT OPEN THE SLIDER DOOR FOR MORE THAN A MINIUTE OR TWO. The air conditioning unit will turn off, including the fan. This will cause condensation on the tile floors instantly making them VERY slippery. I slipped and fell the first 1/2 hour of being in our room. I broke my finger but didn't let it slow me down. The air and the fans will not work at all if any of your doors are open, not even cracked a bit. Other then that we were very pleased with the rooms. Oh Yeah how could I forget the T.V. LOL.....Check out channels 49 and 50. FREE 24 HOUR A DAY ADULT CHANNELS..... THANK YOU 49 and 50...CONCIERGE: Our Concierge was named Adrian. He was the very best we have ever had. He really went out of his way to great us and say Hi to us everyday. We spent a great deal of time getting to know him and we are glad we did. Not only is he a great Concierge but a great person. We stay in touch with him to this day by e-mail. All tree of us got teary-eyed when it was time for us to leave. A very sad day it was. BARS: The swim up bar and the Martini bar had to be our fav. We were greeted by name at both of these bars every day. One day we went to Isla Mujeres (the Island) and we didn't make to the swim up bar, the next day [...] " the best bar tender" called us by name and said 'I missed you two yesterday', and he made a sad face. He is only 18 years old and has been bar tending for two years. He can serve the whole bar by himself and he is very good at it. [...] (the little man how is missing a few fingers)at the martini bar makes the very best Bloody Mary's we have ever had. Nice but not luxury
Seasoned Traveler Nov 15, 2009
All the surfaces are tile so there is noise. There may not be noise from loud parties but it is just as bad if you want to ... nap. Everything makes noise. This resort is not like a hotel with carpet or a cruise ship. You can hear people talking in the hot tub even on the 4th floor. You hear the noise from the cleaning and food carts. You also hear noise from the entertainment at the pool. We went to relax and did not like the noise. The ocean water is nasty. It is not about just a few blades of grass in the water. It is seaweed in abundance. You can't put your feet in the water without seaweed and grass coming back on them. The water is not clear either. The water on the horizon is beautiful. If you are going for the beaches save yourself some money and go to Panama City Florida. This trip cost us almost five thousand dollars for a week and it was not worth the expense. If you want to celebrate your anniversary or wedding be sure and bring your marriage certificate. I don't care if you are celebrating 50 years of marriage they won't recognize it unless you can prove it. For a luxury resort they were pretty "petty" about this. We belong to several resorts including one in Cancun. The resort we belong to does not have have a luxury rating but the beach is a lot better and they are not "petty" about having you prove your wedding date. The Excellence Club is just something that makes some people feel better about paying more. There really isn't anything about it that makes it worth the extra cost. The food isn't any better. If you are into premium liquor in your room you might find the cost worth it. You would be better off grabbing a cab and buying it at a liquor store. We won't go back. I am sure we can find a resort with good food and a better beach. I was wondering if you paid for the $600 honeymoon upgrade if they would recognize your wedding date without a marriage license. After 30 years of marriage I am not accustomed to providing a marriage license. The rooms are nice but no better than at the Wynn Encore. Room service is always after lunch so if you want a clean room during the day forget it. You get your room cleaned by 3 OR 4 pm as the norm and it is not unusual to get it done later than that. Don't expect early check in even if you upgrade to the Excellence Club.

Highly recommend the Grayline/[...]Mayaland trip to Chichen Itza which includes a light snack upon arrival and a delicious lunch at the beautiful Mayaland Hotel. Be prepared for a hot walking tour through the ruins with little or no shade but its well worth the trip.

One recommendation is not to waste money on the swim up rooms....you'll never use and the standard room is exactly the same and for less money.

By the resort being so far off the strip taxis are a must anywhere.

Bring good/strong bug spray. The bugs come out in full force around 6:00pm nightly. Half of the dining is outside.

Take a lot of mosquito spray and don't open your door to the balcony. They bomb for mosquitos daily but they are still awful.

carry both room keys with you in case one does not work and you are in the farthest building from the front desk!
--Anniversary Couple, New Jersey Nov 9, 2009
Book transfers ahead of time and not through the resort. Their prices are much higher than private companies.

We found out through our driver when leaving the best place to get local stuff is Market 23... the local grocery/general store - do not charge tourist prices and is only about 10 min from the resort. Also we used USA Tranfers for a private inexpensive transfer service and they did a wonderful job!

If you are feeling social, the swim-up bar had strong drinks, and was where I met a lot of great people and had fun conversations.

The French Restaurant was amazing.

We went "paragliding". It is a combination of parasailing and hang gliding. We had never heard of it before, but took a chance and had a blast.

The only heads up I would give is when the driver picks you up at the airport, it should be a 25 min straight shot on the fwy..verify this before you leave with them. It took us an hour to get to the hotel because the driver took us through the hotel zone to drop of one other couple 1st...not so pleasant after flying for 5 hrs. The beautiful resort quickly made up for this inconvenience.

There is everytype of food available to you here. At very good quality. It is a waste of money to ever leave this resort.
