we are not able to get refund from the hotel after our flights were canceled because of bad weather
we are NOT able to get refund from the hotel after our flights were canceled because of bad weather ($1,656 for 3 nights 12/22-12/25, the amount for the entire stay was prepaid on 12/19/12) My husband and I were not able to make it to Cancun on 12/21/12 because our flights to Cancun with Frontier Airline in San Francisco were canceled because of weather. Frontier Airline was not able to put us on other flights because it is Christmas/holidays season and all flights are fully booked. All they can do was to refund us the air fares in full amount on 12/21/12. I called Excellence Playa Mujeres in Cancun immediately at the airport to explain our situation and cancel the reservation. The gentleman on the phone told me that I need to call back the next day to cancel the reservation because the reservation department was close and would be open at 9am in the morning. So I called back the next morning 12/22/12 and spoke with Ana @ the reservation department. I explained our situation to Ana that we could not make it Cancun because of cancellation of the flights. Ana suggested I email the receipts of refunds from Frontier Airline to info@excellence-resorts.com and the manager of the reservation department will process the cancellation of the reservation on Monday 12/24/12. On Sunday 12/23/12, I received an email from Julio Arizmendi, the supervisor of the hotel reservation department, saying that they are not able to refund me the reservation fee $1,656 because only cancelation without any penalty has to be done 7 days before the check in day. I then spoke with Mr.Julio Arizmendi on the phone. He said that I should blame the airline and claim the loss from the airline, not Excellence Playa Mujeres in Cancun. We also booked some activities from other companies in Cancun, such as airport pickup, diving/snorkeling. All these companies gave us full refunds even the cancellations were less than 24 hours or 48 hours. Excellence Playa Mujeres in Cancun, a so-call 5-star hotel, is not willing to refund us a penny or hotel credits.

couples get away
beautiful resort! grounds r immaculate. buildings lovely. had to move rooms cause too loud . dont stay in walk outs start rolling supply carts at 5 am. chose to upgrade to roof top for 160/nite. shouldnt have but was desperate for good nights sleep. food excellent. snorkled on isla mujeres arranged thru hotel. saw some cool fish. rented wet suit worth 10 bucks for sure. water was not great huge piles of seaweed and not welcoming prob why not lots of hotels in that area of cancun cause main hotel area water is fabulous. the concierge victor was aweful. he was rude and in a perpetual bad mood not helpful at all(not personality for that job for sure). saw him rudely speak to 1/2 dozen people only one like that. all other staff was lovely and hard working. wont go back but must say hotel is lovely!

Always Great!
I have vacationed at this hotel several times and each time seems to better than the last. The staff is always friendly and very helpful so all you have to do is ask for something special and they will do whatever is necessary to make it happen. I would highly recommend this hotel and I will be returning to my favorite Cancun hotel this spring.

Wedding!!!!
This trip was very relaxing. The staff could not have been nicer or more accomodating. Great beach, atmosphere and good food most of the time. My daughter's wedding was beautiful and the pictures turned out great. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Excellent staff! A few minor details kept it from a five
8 day stay on honeymoon, no VIP upgrade Positives: Room was amazing (roof top terrace) and looked just like the pictures, staff was incredibly courteous and attentive, 24hr room service was a huge plus, the restaurants (Tapas and Lobster House) were very good, bar tenders were very knowledgeable and prompt Neutral: Unexpected guest, see picture attached Negative: Check in was a bit of a debacle and ended up waiting 45mins for our room (granted this was eased with the champagne), breakfast buffet got very old after a week, room service at times brought cold food (maybe it's me but I hate cold greasy french fries), lack of privacy despite having a roof top terrace (nothing like seeing your neighbors doing it at 11am on their patio), some requests with the concierge were not followed through with, spa services were expensive (even on special) and subpar (couples intense destress ritual), beach space was very limited with lots of washed up seaweed Bottom Line: We would go back, the hotel is nice, but would only go if we were able to do the VIP upgrade. The VIP upgrade might have made the trip significantly better (broader room service menu with supposed prompter service), one concierge per floor instead of one per two buildings, possibly more privacy with an ocean view?, also has upgraded liquor (we're not huge drinkers and were fine with the regular menu but some may consider that a plus) I frankly enjoyed my trip to Kauai last year quite a bit more and ended up spending significantly less despite renting a 4-wheel drive vehicle for the entire week and staying at a four star resort.
