Excellence Playa Mujeres Cancun Luxury Adults Only - All Inclusive

Upscale, new hotel in remote spot.

My husband and I have stayed at various adults-only resorts in the Caribbean, and the Excellence Playa Mujeres is by far the best! This resort offers beautiful landscaping and pools, great dining options w/well-prepared food (including a diverse room service menu & top-shelf liquor), and amazing rooms w/super shower for two & whirlpool tub. Service was good - we experienced no problems. However, room service was a little slow (about 45 minutes for dinner), and the beach was not quite "powdery white sand" as advertised (There was some seaweed at the water's edge). Overall, the Excellence Playa Mujeres is a great resort for couples wanting to stay in the Cancun area but away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown hotel zone.

My Finance and I stayed here for 6 days starting on june 29. The stay was very relaxing. The pools, service and food were amazing. The only thing that was a turn off was the look of the resort, it sort of looks like a cheap apartment building on the inside. The grounds were well kept and the beach was very nice. The water was not as clear as it is in the riviera maya area further south of cancun. Overall the best part of my stay was the food at the Lobster house, if you like seafood this is heaven. I had my fill of lobster, fish, ceviche and shrimp. The shrimp mojo de ajo was amazing. The staff was also very friendly and we enjoyed our stay. The waitstaff at the beach and pools was great, you never have to go get your own snacks or drinks. The hammocks that hang over the pools were also very relaxing, as well as the lazy river that goes around the spa area. One of the better all inclusives I've stayed in the cancun area.

Everything was great except for the food but you have to expect this in an all-inclusive hotel. The aminities were very good and the staff bent over backwards to make sure you had a good time. I would recommend it for honeymooners, couples, and anniversaries.

Upon arriving to Excellence we were amazed by the beautiful lobby and grounds! A friendly staffer greeted us and walked us to the Excellence lounge to begin our check-in since we opted for the EC upgrade. Check in was not that smooth. Was told our room would be ready in 20 mins. It ended up taking about 2 hours. Kind of expected this due to fact we came in early but not sure why they told us 20 mins to begin with. Also, I would not waste time and email with requests of certain rooms like other reviews suggested. None of our room requests were met or even came close. (This was kind of odd to us due to the fact the resort seemed kind of empty!) The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The toilet is not that private like others have noted but we were okay with this. Just send your significant other on the balcony if you need some extra privacy! The bed is not very comfy and the pillows are super small. There is a pillow menu so take advantage of it and have different pillows sent to your room! Truly, I feel the EC upgrade is not worth it! Save the money. We gathered this from other reviews but really wanted a great ocean view. We were in building 9 and I feel our view wasn't that great! We had a private EC pool by our building. At times we were the only two in it and poolside service was pretty much non existent. The closest bar was kind of a walk which got old after taking turns getting drinks for ourselves! Actually, we did not receive poolside service at any of the pools! The only time we had a waiter was at the EC private beach. Also, you have to ask for the premium liquor or they will just give you "well" liquor. The EC lounge was nice at check-in but never went back to it due to the fact it is located by building 8. It just wasn't convenient from building 9. I thought we would possibly use it in the evenings before dinner for appetizers etc. but, it was so far from our building it was pointless. You have to pass all restaurants to get to it and by the time you would get to it you would be a sweaty mess! Nice perk if in building 8. All restaurants were good and had good service as well! The staff was very appreciative of tips! (The breakfast buffet was delicious!) We both got sick on our last day which kind of put a damper on things. We are not saying it was from the food but, I definitely would not say it was from drinking too much! Overall, it was a nice place. It was definitely understaffed by the pools and beach. We have stayed at Secrets resorts before and would highly recommend Secrets over Excellence! Overall, you get better service, food, drinks and beach at Secrets in our opinion!

Great hotel........service was spotty, along with food.....Improve these things and it would be perfect.

Let me begin by saying that the service at the EPM is fantastic! From check in to the restaurants and bars everyone is very nice and extremely helpful. Rooms are spacious and very clean. Rooms that have walk out access to the pool are totally worth the money, so if you can get one book it. The resort itself is beautiful and well maintained. As far as drinks, I did not find this to be the best part of EPM. I do not drink much as it is, but the few drinks that I had were inconsistent from one bar to another. There are many dining options available. Food was good, not great. Spice was the restaurant I enjoyed the most. NIghtly entertainment was better some nights than others. Keep in mind that this hotel is not near the hotel zone so any time you need to leave the hotel it will require a cab. It cost less then a taxi to the airport and the concierge can get one for you. We took a cab to Wal Mart, then used the buses to travel along the hotel zone for shopping. Overall, this was a great place to visit if you are planning on vacationing in the Cancun area.

We really enjoyed the great selection of restaurants. Each one offered such a unique experience, ambience and flavor. We noticed early on that the fish entrees were delicious at all the restaurants, but were especially excellent at Chez Isabelle and The Flavor Market (the only two restaurants we went back twice for because we liked it so much). Chez Isabelle had the most delicious crepe dessert! Warning: The tapas style of The Flavor Market are truly small plates. You can probably order about 8 dishes between the two of you to feel comfortably full. You have to remember that it's about appreciating the different flavors here and not about getting full! We did prefer the indoor restaurants over the two outdoor ones. The many various bar locations throughout the resort were really convenient and friendly service was just everywhere we went. We did notice that the cocktail drinks, especially the martinis, were too sweet majority of the time (especially at the theater bar). But the special drinks of the day served in the pineapples were delicious. NOTE TO THE LADIES: This is probably the one time you should "overpack" for a vacation. Thinking that this was a beach resort and really, how much clothes could I really need, I packed super light with only a few sundresses for dinner. I found myself changing 2-3 times a day, trying to accommodate the dress code for the restaurants and wished that I had packed double the amount of clothes. Also, I felt really under dressed in the evenings. You'll blend right in with cocktail/party dresses, heels and all. This did change throughout the week with different groups of people constantly checking in because it felt a little more casual toward the end of our stay, but I would've preferred being over prepared... Also, my husband lost his wallet, we think on the sofa in the lounge by the restaurants, with a good amount of cash and credit card that never got recovered. Whether it was found by the staff or other guests, it would've said so much more about the place and the type of people there if it got turned in!

Beautiful. You could not ask for a more lovely and peaceful setting. You can go out and party, play on the private beach, swim up to one of 7 bars in 7 pools...and the staff is always friendly.

We had a really good time. The food and service was all very good. It seemed like most people tipped even though it was all inclusive. We really weren't sure if we were supposed to or not. In Jamaica they explicitly said no tips allowed.
