Honeymoon

Everything was perfect, from the beautiful beaches to the fantastic views. The location to all of the local clubs and discos is phenomenal. The only thing we didn't like is that they tried to get us to apply for this Hotel Time Share thing, and were a bit more pushy that we would have liked. Other than that , we had a darn near perfect honeymoon, and would love to go again!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the bus, its so much cheaper and a fun Mexican experience. Get some extra massages in town ($30 instead of $140 at Dreams) just as good! Take taxi from airport ($17each way for four people, instead of $68 for two with Gray line or $136 for four.)

Worst vacation ever

1. bathrooms smell like sewer - they use scented toilet paper to try to cover this up but it doesn't work. 2. location on the "point" sounds great - surrounded by water on 3 sides, however, wind howls at 20 to 30 mph at all times. we walked down the beach to other hotel beaches and it was not nearly as windy. 3. saw cockroaches crawling in drink cups that were left on the ground and not picked up. 4. only one waiter was exceptionally nice, Santiago at Oceana, the rest were grumpy, even though everyone I saw was tipping, including us. 5. staff spoke enough English to take your order but that was it so you couldn't ask any questions about anything. 6. bed was so hard that we had backaches by the end of the trip. Think sleeping on the floor hard and you get the idea. 7. smoke detector directly above bed flashed like a green strobe light all night long. 8. patio door to balcony did not seal so there was a whistling/howling all night long. 9. constant problems with TV/VCR not working in room. 10. Worst vacation of our lives was topped off by cash being stolen from the locked safe in our rooms. Hotel General Manager would never come talk to us and underlings told us they had honest employees. Some honest employee has our $400. If you have upcoming reservations I highly recommend you cancel.

Paloma Bonita is the "off-site" restaurant you can dine at and it is quite good, but we think they used the fact that we were off property to rob our room so beware if you do go.

Money Stolen from Locked Safe

We came back from dining at the included off site restaurant to find that all the cash we had locked in the safe had been stolen - about $400. This is Mexico, so I wasn't that surprised to have been robbed (although I didn't expect it with a locked safe), but I was shocked at how the hotel handled it. The hotel staff and management was horrific! We were discouraged from reporting it to the police by the Concierge Manager Jackie, but we insisted, considering the circumstances. Security came to our room and searched our room to see if we had hidden our money and were lying about it being stolen! The search took close to 2 hours, during which time we were required to be present, while they opened umbrellas, took all the bed linens off, went through all of our clothing, suitcases, etc. The next manager was the front desk manager who said my kids, who were staying in the adjoining room and are 8, 10, and 12 (and had not left my side the entire trip), probably took the money and spent it. That theory did not explain why the $50 bill that my 12 year old had in her safe had also been stolen. Next it was the Rooms Manager Annett. Annett had a report run that showed all the keys that had been used to open our room. She then told us that all the employees on the report who opened our door were honest and that she thought we were lying about the robbery. (Hmmm...some honest employee is now $400 richer). Annett then said if we wanted to report it to the police to take a cab to the police station - that's a bit hard to do when you have NO MONEY! The hotel finally did have a guy drive me to the police station upon my insistence where I did a full report. Overall, the whole process took about 6 hours - not how I had wanted to spend the last full day of our vacation. We requested to speak to the general manager several times, but he or she never came to speak with us or called our room. The staff I did speak with refused to compensate us in anyway or take any responsibility. Had the staff not accused us of being liars and had offered a spa treatment or a tour (which they were giving away to people who listened to the time share pitch), we would not be so irate. The treatment of the staff was more insulting and disturbing then being robbed. Needless to say, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Paloma Bonita is good, but I think that is how the thief in the hotel knew that we were off property and could go into our room, so go at your own risk or take all your money with you.

Great Location for Friends Wedding and Get-away!

We had a fantastic experience at the Dreams Cancun Resort and highly recommend it to couples and families alike. Very customer oriented and excellent amenities (especially food). My hubby and I have not had the opportunity to travel much, but know that if and when we can afford another trip Dreams Cancun will either be the place or the place to beat!

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Although going to 'market' to purchase items is part of a fun experience, we came across the Mexican Outlet a few blocks away and wish we would have shopped there first and then shopped the market with the local venders. The Outlet gives a better idea for prices and what is a true authentic MX item before you shop the market-plus the Outlet does not require bartering! Enjoy the local shopping too though!!

Very good All-Inclusive

Pros: - Incredible food; all restaurants were way above expectations for an all-inclusive - Location is excellent - short walk to the clubs and surrounded on 3 sides by water - Good rooms - Well organized, plenty to do - Dolphins were always happy to see you - Wait staff and bartenders and bellmen were professional, friendly and good at what they did Cons: - Very kid friendly, consequently there were a lot of families with kids. We were looking for something else but this may be a "pro" for you - Found the concierge to be rude - Pool was a bit underwhelming. The lagoon is a nice touch but appeared dirty compared to the great Cancun waters surrounding the resort In general, this is a quality place and was worth the value we got out of it. I'd probably consider other places next time only because my girlfriend and I would like to try an adults-only.

Anniversary

The experience was great, the staff was great, but.. There were a few that couldn't understand or speak any English and could have been helpful if they could. Most of them did very good and they all had very good personalities and were very personable. The Hotel was surrounded by water on 3 sides. We were on the bottom level and had a great view of the Dolphins and would sit on our balcony and watch them every morning. If you are planning on any adventures while you are there and not really planning on spending alot of time in your room, then I would suggest not worrying about an upgraded room. just go with the basic, they are still very good rooms.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

The Zip line was a great adventure and all the people we very nice and funny. They even through in a surprise for us that were up for doing a bungee swing. out of all of the people in our group. the women were the first to jump on the opportunity. : ) After that, we did 12 Zip Lines. They will even let you go upside down if you want to. just make sure and don't drop anything, because what falls in the jungle, stays in the jungle. Make sure and bring the bathing suits for a Zip line jump into a natural sink whole. you will have a chance to change into them before you go. After the zip lines, it 's time for lunch. The food was great. Now, If you decide to go to the Chichen Itza Mayan Pyramid, make sure you have plenty of room in your luggage for souvenirs. While you are on the path to the Ruins, there will be plenty of people selling some really cool stuff for really cheap, like one U.S. Dollar. we couldn't believe it. There were people walking out with bags of stuff. wish we would of had the room in our luggage to take home.
