Beautiful Beach, So-So Hotel

I booked my stay at this hotel because they were offering a great deal. I'd never experienced an all-inclusive hotel, so I was curious to see what all of that entailed. It was a good value, but next time I'd spend more money to stay at a nicer hotel. The food was hit or miss, breakfast was my favorite meal of the day. We didn't dine at the Mediterranean restaurant because it requires a reservation and the concierge people told us the wrong time to set up a reservation. It had a heavy fish smell, so probably not a huge loss. Be careful when you talk to the check in staff! We accidentally ended up signing up for a time share presentation. It wasn't horrible, but took a few hours away from the beach. Overall impression: friendly staff, lots and lots of yummy (but way too sweet) alcoholic drinks, ok food, silly/enthusiastic entertainment staff, meh hotel room, GREAT beach front. I recommend this hotel if it's an amazing deal.

Lesson Learned

Food in the buffet area was good...However, on Saturday when we were getting a shuttle at 6 pm there was no food available other than snacks by the pool. You are only allowed to eat at their main restaurant once in 7 days?? The Italian restaurant is closed on Saturdays, and the buffet did not reopen until 6. (We paid money to eat out needless to say) We got stuck in the elevator once with two small children before finally one of the buttons 3 floors above ours lit up. The next day there was an out of order sign up. (We used the stairs the rest of the week) There are only 12 umbrellas for the whole resort available to the guests. The front desk said they put them out at 8 am, however both days I came down at 7:30 they were already gone. Beach towels were a rare commodity. We were told more often than not to check back later and they will have some. (Frustrating as beach chairs were also in short demand) If you are traveling to Cancun, especially with children, than this is not the resort for you. We like to try new things, and shop for the best deals, and we learned that it would have been worth the extra money to have gone back to the same resort as last year as the experience was well worth the extra money.

ok place, not too clean

This hotel needs some serious upgrading! it has really good location, the staff is friendly and helpful, food ok. The rooms are good size, they need upgrades! We had small ants in the bathroom area. Be prepared to wait "uno momento" for clean towels (maid takes your used ones, and clean ones don't show up for anoter 1-2 hours). Food was ok, you could always find something you liked. If you want Wi-Fi, it is $15 per day! Be prepare to tip everyone- waiters, bartenders, beach boy, maids, tour guides, etc. The weather made it all better, the beach and water are really nice and clean.

everything great except ...

The rep was rarely there when he said he would be, then called at 10pm at nite to make plans to meet us and was a no show the next day. He was more interested in selling us trips then being there to confirm times, for return flights, or being helpful,. We found a much lesser price for trip to Xcaret combined with a time-share condo promo costing us much less for the excursion that rep offered, Also the "free" sunset cruise was actually a night time cruise, saw the lights of the harbor, but not the sunset. .Overall , the trip was worth the price and the hotel was very accomodating. The reservation restaurant at the hotel , was very disappointing, the chicken was first served "looking like still life the second attempt raw, and by the third attempt did not attempt to eat it and the other dinner guests were done with their meal, by then. The bus route was a few steps from the hotel which made it accessible to the city center where the shops and markets were. From hotel , it was a short walk to El Rey , the ruins , which was great, Pool : Only Ladder to get in and small, not enough chairs, had to get up @ 7am to cover a chair or else one did not get one. Overall a great trip!!!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

A walk to the curb, outside of the hotel 1 minute..to catch a bus $1.00 will take your into the city center, for shopping etc. Bus that takes you to Plaza de Americas, also only $1. one way. Hotel staff gave Rte #'s of buses to take and how to take return bus.

nice

The location is perfect, next to the beach if you liked to spent the time on it. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel's room was clean just needs update. Food is ok, also they have two other restaurants. The price is appropriate to the condition. Will be back there for sure.

First trip to Cancun

Our room was leaking from the ceiling, as well as there was leaking through out the Hotel. The air conditioning in our room was very weak. The food was fine, would of liked the offering of ice cream daily. Francisco the bar tender was superb. The entertainer guy was a lot of fun. The beach is beautiful. The other guest were friendly. Over all had a great time.

Its an average hotel

The first best think about this hotel its not far from the Airport. Second the beach is clean and very nice. The staffs are the best. Food is good entertainment is ok. The bad part is the hotel is old. rooms give you a feeling like you are staying on a average road side motel.there is not much amenities...No gym,No working phone booth...No working ATM machine( and its only dispense U S dollars) A bit far from the centre of entertainments... No wi fi ....and the worst thing is smoking allowed everywhere in the hotel....which is not good for anybody especially kids...

Entertainment tip: Not Applicable

Don't buy anything from the people at the hotel kiosk selling....Its way too Expensive....just go to the centre of all actions in the middle of the hotel zone( where club Coco Bongo and other entertainments).Don't exchange in the hotel because the rate they give is way too low than the banks offer.....and the shping wise the word is "BARGAIN"

Budget friendly, but...

Beautiful beach, good staff, great bartenders, buffet food was good, pool and after hours food lacked variety, bars close too early - especially on Friday night, not enough night-time activities (music). Actual room fell very short - mold in bathroom, old grey bath towels, uncomfortable beds. Exterior hotel walls are extremely dirty - looks terrible; concrete beach wall literally was falling apart; dangerous/loose wood handrail coming down stairs to beach; never enough lounge chairs or umbrellas available to accommodate their guests.

You get what you pay for

We went in knowing it was a 3 star and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel needs major updates and I believe they are trying. You can tell the staff does the best they can with the resources they have. Towels are scarce and worn. But clean. There are only 12 umbrellas available and most are broken. Watched the worker look for drink straws to make them work. But they worked with what they had and were friendly. Remember people are still people and you have your hard workers and lazy workers just like in the US and abroad. Food was on average with the other places we have stayed and drinks were actually better than other places. Ask for better liquor and they will do it. Room is small and we were upgraded, but if you went to Cancun to stay in your room and watch TV, sorry for you. Turn your fan up to 3 when you get in the room and it will cool it off better. We would go again for the price.
