True taste of Mexico with peace and quiet

Our stay at Avalan Baccar was lovely. The hotel itself is a true taste of Mexico with it's old Mexican mansion style. The rooms were comfortable. The restaurant was cozy. Great breakfast! And the beach was unbelievable. We looked left and right to the other hotels and the beach front was crammed. We were the only two people on the beach in front of the Avalon Baccara. Our own little quiet paradise. Very quiet and relaxing and the staff were very friendly and helpful!

Quiet, hidden gem

If you want a quiet getaway, this is ideal. This "resort" used to be the govenor's mansion. The rooms are larger than we expected and are well kept by the staff. We cannot say enough good things about the staff: they are very friendly, helpful and personable, from the front desk to the bartenders and waitors to the cleaning staff. The location is ideal, close to everything in the hotel zone. Great beach and limited number of other guests to ruin the tranquility!!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Great little dining spot just outside the resort named Tacu. They serve everything from tacos to seafood dinners. You do need to mention you are looking for a seafood dinner to get lobster and shrimp as it is not on the menu, but they do an excellent job with it! They also do an excellent job with their coffee and breakfast menu.

Amazing!

When we booked our vacation to include Avalon Baccara, we knew it was a smaller hotel (27 rooms) in Cancun's hotel zone, and seemed to be a fair price. Once we arrived, met by the staff, and opened the door to our room, we knew this was no ordinary hotel. Wow! Our room was very spacious, had a view to the Caribbean and the Lagoon, large bathroom, and jacuzzi overlooking the Lagoon! The common areas of the hotel are very spacious and enviting. Other reviews indicate the small pool but with 27 rooms, there really aren't that many people to use the pool in the first place and was by no means ever crowded with only a couple at most in the pool at any given time. I hate to say too many great things about the hotel as to cause competition for the next time we go to Cancun, but we REALLY enjoyed our stay here and can't say enough good things about the hotel.

Older, cute hotel, but one bad employee spoiled it

Stayed one night at this hotel. It has a good location and the pool is adorable with a nearby nice beach. It's a smaller, older hotel and the room I stayed in looked pretty tired and old. It should probably be remodeled very soon. The only real problem this hotel has is a bad employee at the desk during the day shift. He totally insulted me in Spanish while I was standing right in front of him, calling me "feya" to another co-worker when he thought I didn't understand Spanish. I was so taken aback I didn't say anything to him, but it really made me feel terrible. I'm not the most beautiful person, but in my defense, I wasn't looking my best because I had just taken the overnight bus from Belize City into Cancun the night before.

Skip the in house restaurant and go dine at Habaneros on the street side next door for cheap, delicious tacos.

Late January in Cancun

Stayed at the Avalon Baccara on January 27, 2012 - January 31, 2012. Hotel was clean, though it could use some updating in the lobby and rooms. Was nice and relaxing to sit by the pool or on the beach. Beach area was not crowded near the hotel. Stayed in 402 (no elevator!) which faces the lagoon. Room was small but it was nice having the terrace overlooking the street (we liked to watch the people go by). The staff are excellent! Loved Juan Carlos - he remembered our breakfast beverages every morning!

Ocean Blue View Steps from the Room!

Avalon Baccara was unforgettable - we booked the honey moon suit on the top of the hotel that overlooked both the Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. The balcony looks into the blue ocean, and it was beautiful to wake up to every morning! The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the small scale of the hotel had a intimate feel. We loved it, and would definitely return again!

Just do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else

I don't have anything good to say, the service staff was very apologetic for a slew of mishaps that I won't get into, but the managers here could not care less or be less accommodating. I didn't even stay at this hotel because I am not able to climb narrow hallways of stairs for 6 flights repeatedly throughout a vacation and that is what you would be contending with...I stayed at the neighboring avalon grand after all was said and done. I am not a fan of Cancun nor the cheap Vegas thrills...but if you want to be near them this is not your place either. To access anything you almost need to take a cab bc getting to a walkway takes you past a mess of construction. The staff will help you if you ask repeatedly to have something done but this is not a customer service oriented establishment by any means and for the money you can do better elsewhere. Continue your search...

You could not ask for more!!!

this is my first time staying here and I can not say anything wrong about the place. The hotel is small which makes it nice because staff knows your name and you are not treated like a number like in the bigger places. I stayed in room 204b and it had Its own private terrace and juacuzzi which was fantastic after a day of walking around and enjoying cancun. The staff went out of their way to get me what I wanted. I had a romantic dinner one night and they prepared a seafood dinner for two and it was perfect. The place has a great pool and sundeck. It was the perfect place and I can't wait to go back and see the nice people that I met and stay at the best place I have ever stayed at. For the price and location and the staff you will find yourself wanting to come back and stay only here.

Beyond your expectations.

My girlfriend and I booked this place in june2011, stayed in july. Landed the Honeymoon Sweet on the 4th floor for $125 a night. This is the top floor of this truly unique hotel. I read over 100 reviews on this site before booking and thought we were in for a really nice weekend. I underestimated. Lets just run this down quickly.. Stunning suite with 25ft skylighted ceiling. Big white leather corner couch facing the tv. (never turned it on.) Monster sized bed of decent comfort with pillows for days. Small bathroom / Adequate kitchen. (this is not a hangup for us, but if you were a whiny character then you might not be satisfied. Ever. lol.) Private backside oceanview balcony with jacuzzi. Private frontside lagoonview balcony for catching every sunset. This alone is phenomenal. Gorgeous pool with bar overlooking the beach. The nicest management and staff imaginable. I can't even tell you guys how nice, or I might get them in trouble. ; ) Let me repeat- $125 per night. We did a ton of stuff in cancun, but this hotel experience worth double or triple that price. To the staff, if you guys are reading this: Muchos muchos gracias, somos humildes por su gracia y la bondad. -ben and jen .
