A palette of richly chosen colors and an assortment of textures characterize the Hacienda Puerta Campeche. This luxurious hotel is a gem flawlessly displaying a collection of restored 17th century historical houses. Wander through corners of deeply colored yellows and oranges, exploring traditional lifestyle with modern luxuries. Discover the beauty of a Mexican hacienda along with attentive, personal service. Meander throughout our one-of-a-kind pool, with secret alcoves and open windows offering views of an outside world of beauty. Stroll through our luxurious gardens, with stunning arrays of vibrant colors set against 17th century stone walls. After the sun has set, wander to a romantic rooftop setting and indulge in the finest traditional cuisine while overlooking cool tones of blues reflected by the midnight sky at La Guardia Restaurant. Open the mahogany wood door and step barefoot onto the rust-colored Mayan tiles of our 15 traditionally decorated guest rooms or suites. Fully restored in original buildings with modern technology, our rooms feature 18-foot ceilings with exposed beams and rafters, comfortable beds, and cool tiled floors. Sink into the pillow-top mattress of an untouched bed, amongst flower petals, or curl up in our cotton-woven hammocks and nap, Mayan style. The relaxation options are endless at Hacienda Puerta Campeche.

Needs a good plumber and more

Although this place advertizes as luxury, and some of the features are high end (marble, large rooms, nice bed, architecture) basics are seriously wanting. The pool floor and walls are covered with mold or mildew; you can see where it is scraped off where people enter or rub against the sides. Sometimes the water in the bathroom stops altogether; when management is notified, they fix it, but offer no apology. It takes several minutes for the hot water to come out hot. The sink and shower do not drain well, making the shower floor very slippery. The room smells like insecticide, and, indeed, there is a complimentary can of Raid and insect repellant spray. Toiletries are supplied in cute jars, but not sealed. Do they simply top up the contents (shampoo, lotion, etc.) between guests? In one of the rooms of our large party there were mouse (or large insect) droppings on the floor, The waiters in the restaurant (food is OK) do not supply napkins unless asked, at every meal. Coffee mate is served with coffee; you have to ask for milk, every time. The have a bar, but no proper bartender; they only know how to make drinks from a mix or ready-made. The state/city charge a very high room tax (over $100/night); I was told that this was included in my pre-paid room fee, but, when I checked out, I was charged over $500.00 for four nights. The manager speaks poor English, cannot make herself understood; all the guests are American. They have a guest computer, but it is not hooked up to a printer. This is a two star hotel in a five star wrapper.

The staff was great! The location and facilities were also very good. The only I would have like better was the temperature of the pool, the water was very cold.

Great stay in Campeche

Although they include "luxury" in the description of the resort, we were skeptical before checking in having stayed at other colonial hotels in the city. However, it was beautiful -- true to its hacienda roots with a decorative pool (complete with hammocks), rooftop restaurant, and intimate service. It is more pricey than other hotels in Campeche city, but that's because it's much better. The location is great for enjoying this coastal, historic town. Enjoy your stay!

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

If you are in Campeche over the weekend, walk to the central plaza after dark for an exciting time.

Total relaxation

The Hacienda Puerta Campeche is an absolute delight. There are 15 rooms arranged around a central garden and pool all of which are converted from colonial era houses. The pool is one of the most original and interesting I have seen. It is built inside the ruins of a house so you are swimming from room to room with just the walls left standing to delineate the original house. The staff are very attentive and the food is first class both in the garden restaurant and the roof top open air venue known as the Guardia. An evening meal here is something quite special and highly recommended. This luxury hotel is has wonderful combination of tranquillity, service and originality that make it a must if you are visiting Campeche

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Take a walk around the old city and then take the trolley bus tour from the main plaza (80 pesos) gives you a great overview of the town
