Busy Cabo San Lucas hotel features daily activities and tropical flair
Perched on a hill with the Sea of Cortez to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west, Hotel Finisterra capitalizes upon its unique garden, ocean and marina views. The 283-room property affords a stunning feature: One building was built into a stone foundation that is surrounded by boulders. Elsewhere, the hotel buzzes with activity, whether guests are wading in the three free-form pools, taking Spanish or cooking classes or savoring local fare at Blue Marlin Restaurant.Highlights

Rooms
Hotel Finisterra comprises two sections covering 283 rooms with garden, ocean or marina views. The original Finisterra building sits on a stone foundation surrounded by boulders, affording guests with unique vantage points and low-rise access. In these rooms, tropical flair reigns, from floral patterns to wood furniture. In the newer Palapa Beach Club towers, visitors soak up vistas of the ocean, while in the Il Porto building, patrons take in glimpses of the nearby marina. Standard amenities tend to basics like a fully stocked minibar, bathroom and two double or one king bed.Dining
Hungry diners need not travel off-site for authentic Mexican dishes. At Blue Marlin Restaurant, Hotel Finisterra guests savor breakfast, lunch and dinner favorites. The eatery also serves poolside. For the multitasking traveler, there is a swim-up bar for cocktails during sunbathing.Recreation
Three free-form pools -- including one that houses a separate area for children -- serve as centers for leisure at Hotel Finisterra. The hotel also hosts a diverse set of activities to entertain guests all day, including Spanish lessons, cooking classes and volleyball classes.
And for parents to enjoy: babysitting services upon request when the mood strikes to book a massage or relaxing sit in the sauna.

Sorry I couldn't get there
Plane from PHL delayed such that I could not make connection in Phoenix, and there were no alternative to get to Cabo San Lucas. Notwithstanding that, I have stayed at the Finesterre several times, and it is a fantastic hotel and offers a great value proposition. Unfortunately, I did not know until after the cancellation deadline that I could not come, so I had to forfeit the entire room cost. However, c'est la vie - no one was at fault. I will stay at the Finesterre on my next trip. Much better than Casa Del Mar or La Esperanza.

Definitely a good hotel. Nothing to complain about. WiFi in the rooms and a safe for the laptop and the hotel would be perfect. WiFi is free en the business center if you bring your laptop.

You have to be in the right frame of mind
I first visited Cabo in 1973. It was a little fishing village with one hotel - The Finestera. The Finestera is now one of dozens, a sea of concrete in Cabo. It it bordered on one side by a monstrosity of a timeshare place that has used up a thousand of square feet of what used to be a pristine beach. And,on the other side, a massive construction project - more concrete, more people. Cabo is probably great if you want to party 24x7, hang out in bars every night and spend the day recovering by a pool. But, it's no longer a place to relax. Unfortunately, the Finestera is right in the middle of the meelee.

24 hour room service
The hotel and grounds were kept impeccably as well as our room. This is especially welcome when you are in a sandy environment and sand gets into and on to everything such as the tile floors in both the bathroom and bedroom of your room and into sheets and towels. However, everyday our room was cleaned meticulously as though we were newly arriving guests each day. More importantly, one day of our trip we did have to spend an entire day in our room recovering from too much sun exposure the day before. We ate every meal through room service, breakfast lunch/dinner and desert. The food was served promptly and was excellent, especially the triple chocolate cake and each meal was very fairly priced. We were so amazed at the quality and value and convenience that we even mentioned our experience to a few other hotel guests in the coming days as we met people poolside or in the courtesy shuttle.

Beautiful Views
We have mixed feelings about the Hotel Finisterra... we stayed there for 8 nights along with 4 other couples. 4 of the nights we were in a timeshare the other 4 in a hotel room. They are in the process of renovation, so one side of the hotel has jackhammering all day... our friends were unfortunate enough to stay on that side of the hotel, and the staff was reluctant to accomodate them. Also, like any other timeshare facility they have a deal if you go listen to their sales pitch you get a $100 credit, however when you go to cash in on your credit they are very difficult and only at that time do they tell you that the $100 is only good at one restaurant in the hotel and nothing else... long story short, we only got to use $60 worth of the credit. However, this hotel has beautiful pools, incredible views, and the housekeeping staff does a wonderful job of keeping the place very clean. Overall we would recommend it, just be weary of the front desk staff.

Great resort for the price
The resort is located on the pacific ocean side, so nice and quite - away from the party scene, perfect for families. But still only a 5 min walk to downtown. Only issue to be aware of is that's it located at the top of a steep hill. The resort runs a shuttle up and down for guests, but if you're in a hurry, you may have to wait a few minutes for the shuttle to get to you. Walking it wasn't a problem, but FYI that it is there. Rooms were spacious and clean, pool was great - not overcrowded. Food was excellent. Overall, couldn't beat it for the price.

Downtown Cabo and all it's great restaurants were just a short walk from the hotel. You could get to the marina within 5 minutes, the farthest restaurants were only a 30 min walk.

Great place to relax esp by the pool
Hotel Finisterra was overall a great place to stay. We upgraded our room to an ocean view on the palapa side of the hotel. We stayed on the second floor though I would have preferred a higher floor. We had a decent view of the ocean but our balcony was pretty small and we didnt hang out there that often because there wasn't that much room. Our friends had the same room as us but with a much larger balcony right next to us. I thought the front desk was not that friendly especially when we asked for a room on a higher floor ( so we could get a better view). They said they were completely booked but I'm not sure if I believed them. We spent a lot of our time in the pool. The pool was great! It was crowded on saturday but emptied out on sunday and on. But there were plenty of chairs to lay out on and their happy hour at the pool is just awesome!! 2 for 1 for two hours each day! The hotel was walking distance to the town but we opted for a cab on the way home late at night. The food was pretty good, not the best but exactly what you expect for a hotel. Good french fries and nachos. The food ranged from 8 US dollars to $13 or so.

Make sure to go to the happy hour at the pool during 2-4pm everyday and the whalewatcher bar which is also located on the hotel grounds from 4-6pm. Though drinks aren't very strong they are cheap and tasty.

Nice Vacation Spot
We had a very nice stay at the Hotel Finisterra as the resort and pools are beautiful. The staff was great and went out of their way to make you happy. Food also was terrific(esp. the breakfast buffet.) We had a good time and would go again. A couple drawbacks were the bed was fairly hard, but I've heard from alot of travelers in Mexico that all the beds are hard. And there was construction going on next door to the Finisterra for a new resort. So sometimes during the day there was jackhammer noise. It wasn't real bad but was noticeable for awhile until you got used to it. All in all a good place to stay.

Romantic Getaway
The Finisterra Hotel was a lovely hotel. The room was spacious, King size bed, living room area with a built-in kitchen unit. View from balcony was beautiful. The trek to room is not so much fun, but its worth it. The location can either be looked at as a plus or minus...its away from downtown, which means going into town is going to cost you each time.(The hotel provides a shuttle service, drop off/pick up is in the beginning of downtown.) The food and service was great.
