Enjoy the private beach, located off Akumal Bay, in Riviera Maya
The Akumal Beach Resort is located 55 minutes from Cancun's International Airport and boasts two swimming pools, two tennis courts, three restaurants, three bars, a children's club and theater.  The all-inclusive resort is surrounded by natural beauty. Akumal Beach Resort overlooks more than a mile of white sand beaches and Akuman Bay, known for Caribbean sea turtles. The 241 room-resort is small enough to be personal but large enough to experience many amenities.
Highlights:
  • More than a mile of beach
  • Akumal Beach Resort is located on Akumal Bay, a known sea turtle hangout
  • Snorkeling steps from the resort
Rooms:

The 168 king or double-double rooms at the Akumal Beach Resort have full ocean or garden views. Expect bold colors, such as orange walls and teal blue accents, that mirror the brightness of the Caribbean. The resort is just steps away from the beach and two pools. Air-conditioning, ceiling fan, hair dryer, purified water, TV, telephone and private balcony or terrace are standard amenities.

Features:

The Akumal Bay provides calm, clear water for swimming , snorkeling and spotting sea turtles. The white, sand beaches lend themselves perfectly to sunbathing. Kids at the Akumal Beach Resort enjoy the supervised kids club. Adults have fun in the sun, play volleyball, work on their archery shot or learn a few new dance moves. For health conscious guests, the resort offers yoga classes. At night, sway to the live music at the main bar or enjoy a weekly show or contest in the theater. Kids in the kids club are fed dinner in the main dining rooms so parents can spend time reconnecting or taking a breather.

30th Wedding Anniversary

As other reviews have been the resort is older, but we like to spend our money on doing other activities when we vacation rather than stay at 5 star resorts and never leave the grounds. We scuba dived, snorkeled, went deep sea fishing and traveled the area. The beach is perfect! We rented a car in Cancun and were able to visit the attractions in the area. We stayed in building 7 and really didn't have any complaints. The staff was very friendly and we met some amazing people from different countries. We enjoyed the evening walks on the beach. The resort was full when we were there but you never felt crowded. This was our first tropical trip by ourselves without kids or family. We're hooked on the tropics and having margarita with an ocean view!

It was just what we were looking for

We were thrilled with the deal we got for our four night honeymoon. The place was restful and we had a great time exploring. We got a little bored after we did all the attractions that were free, and being on a young-person's bugdet, we couldnt really afford to go elsewhere, taxis were spendy. We found out later that you can catch a city bus for cheap. Anyways, the food was fine, loads of it, we ate fresh salsa and guac at the outdoor bar every day, free open bar.. it was fun. Kind of far from cancun, but very cloe to the tulum ruins.

Meet with friends

off season so only about 50 people. So, was quiet and relaxing and had attentive staff. Put me in a room that was not ocean view as I paid for - had to show management my voucher and was given my upgrade. My friends from England had been at the resort once before this year and was staying 3 weeks this time so, you would thing as returning customers, the length of stay, and with hotel not busy they would have been given an upgrade! Property waaay out there - although nice prefer to be closer to shopping etc. The cost of airport transfers $100 too much. Food was good. No refrigerators in room - which I prefer.

Kind of on the old side, but still nice

This resort is very nice and nice location. It is older and seems to be in a state of limbo. There was only 2 places to eat, and there was not a great selection of food. The one specialty restaurant only did Mexican one night and Italian the other night. There used to be 2 other specialty restaurants, but the buildings were empty. The only reason we booked in this hotel is becaue last year the Blue Carib Diving was located on site. However Blue Carib told us that the new owners did not want a dive shop on site. Which is crazy!!! As this is a great spot for diving. And having a dive shop on site is a plus plus plus!!!! They have the best beach in Akumal. But don't offer much more than that. I hope the new owners reconsider having the owners of Blue Carib come back to their resort.

Akumal Beach Resort

This Hotel is an interesting choice in that it has a great beach and lots of good snorkeling to do but the state of hotel is a rustic one and in need of various repairs. I don't want to sound to negative because over all we enjoyed it and will consider coming back. But this is not a mega hotel all fancied up with multiple restaurants to choose from. It has a main buffet style restaurant with a decent menu. No swim up bar. The staff are friendly and helpful but there are only a few mattress toppers to be had so good luck in getting one. The TV we had was older and to small but ok for getting the news. No elevators, mind you it only has 3 floors.Internet is not free here and is $35/week/device and you need to lug your laptop down to around the front desk area but fortunately the bar is right there to ease the pain.Over all we were happy with our 2 week stay here. It has a certain quaint laid back charm and we were happy with our first [...]adventure as there were no surprises or problems to mar our trip.

There doesn't seem to be any differences in using Pesos or US dollars. You don't get the bank rate for US and they will charge you more in Pesos. The best tip is to take enough cash down so that you don't need to keep paying the ATM service charges all the time.

Much needed vacation

The hotel rooms in our compound all faced the beach so we enjoyed watching and listening to the surf. We even watched the sunrise on our last day. Rooms were clean and we loved the hard mattress that most people commented on. We were so tired after snorkeling and walking the beach that we slept like babies at night. We would have liked a little more night life other than the one bar. There was a great band one night but they were done at 10:00 pm. We also would probably book an all inclusive adults only next time like we did in Jamaica. You're more likely to meet and visit with people from around the world. There would also be no crying babies.

Nice but lacking

This hotel was very nice. We loved the beach and the room was nice. The food however was a little lacking. The taste was ok, but the selection wasn't the best. I don't know if we would return, unless it was a very good deal.

Akumal Beach Resort

If you want fantastic snorkeling this is the place to go. If you want exceptional food and drink, look elsewhere. The resort was clean and well kept, although a bit dated, and the staff was great. Food was acceptable at best. Small selection at buffet and luke warm usually. We went exclusively for the snorkeling, so it fit our needs. Sea Turtles and aquatic life abounds! Swimming with sea turtles was on our bucket list, so now that it has been crossed off the list, we would probably not return here.
