beach is nice, location is loud

We stayed over a weekend at this hotel. LOCATION: There was a lot of loud music from nearby nightclubs until 4 am. The busy road nearby is also very loud. There are some restaurants nearby but we were impressed by only one. SERVICE: The staff was very friendly and helpful. Most were bilingual, but appreciated attempts to speak spanish. The only bad thing is that they are a time share type resort and will try to convince you to sit through one of their presentations. ROOM: Not bad not great- basic, but clean. Pillows were hard. BEACH: The beach was gorgeous but a little rough while we were there. The crowd (and I mean crowd) at the beach was made up of local families, gay couples and other tourists in between. There are also peddlers and occasionally those trying to sell illicit drugs FOOD: fair, margaritas are tasty

Too much noise

We just stayed one night after a week at the Grand Mayan in the Diamante zone. Our room here overlooked the bungee jump and was in line with noise from night clubs until 4:00 am- had to put a pillow over my head to drown out the very loud music and loud speakers. The pool area also has very loud music all day-we escaped it by going to a deck away from the main area. My advice- go to the Diamante zone, much better beach and swimming in the big waves, better everything. Unless you like to sleep all morning and party all night, this is not the place for you!! Nice place to visit once, but I sure wouldn't stay a week.

The Ugly

The furniture in our one bedroom suite was awful. It smelled and was dirty. We changed room but it was no better. Our maid service was excellent; however, given the old, worn furniture, we could never eliminate the smell. The hotel attempted to clean the furniture but is did not help. We sprayed daily. The hotel needs to replace and update the furniture. The furniture in the lobby was also dirty. The restaurants in the hotel offered excellent food and service. I have stayed at this hotel in the past and enjoyed the faiclity; however, I will not stay there again unless it has been remolded, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Good location but too noisy and mildewy

We could not escape the mildewy smell of the floors and the bed linens were awful rough and the pillows were 2 inches deep. The location is good for views of the bay and the beach access is good. But the hotel is right next to the disco turista area and is very noisy from 7pm - 5am.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

From the hotel, ask to book a trip to see the Acapulco Divers at night. That is the best time to see them. If you book a daytime Acapulco City Tour to see the divers, you will be spending most of your time driving thru traffic jams or getting dropped off in tacky turista shopping areas.

Good and Bad

The hotel staff was VERY accommodating - the worst thing about the hotel was the noise from the beachside restaurants EVERY NIGHT UNTIL 3:30am. We chose that side of the hotel because it is the view we love, so we put up with the noise. The staff offered to change our room to the other side but I HAD to have the view. The room was cleaned very well and stocked with clean towels twice every day.

Good Value, Good Location

Positive: I used to stay across the street at Tortuga - with my Orbitz Coupon I paid less at Fiesta Americana, and the pool is 100% better, and I enjoyed the beach club as well. Negative: On my 2nd day I got a phone call telling me to come to the consierge desk - they wanted to put their ID band on me - I hate those things, it's like tagging wildlife or branding cattle. Along with the wristband I got an invitation to a "free buffet" which included of course the time-share sales pitch. Before he could end his sentence I turned and walked away. I hate this crass sales pitch business. If you've stayed at the Ritz Carleton - they make it a point for staff to actually remember their guests and greet them by name rather than "banding" them; they once handed me a brochure about their condo-hotel offer, and room service breakfast was complimentary without a sales-pitch. I guess the bargain price comes with some crassness.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

If you go to the beach club, there are outside food and beverage vendors you can buy from too, they will serve you just like the hotel staff, if you want some variety from the hotel menu - just remember to bring some cash.

Not such a great stay after all

I really was okay when i first got there except i added my parent in law for one night and they put me in a different room when later if ound there was a pull out couch and my parent in laws could have stayed there. The first room, the door was missing, there was no lock o n the balcony. Then when i got to the next room we had no cold water. They fixed it at 10pm at night, for one hour while i was trying to relax and then we didnt have hot water!!I called to advise them and told them not to bother us because it was our last day and we just wanted to be left i n peace. They sent someone up anyways and he fixed it after an hour and then we didnt have cold water again. When i first arrived I was told my calls to USA would be 25 pesos.. not per minute, per call. I verified many times and even called the fornt desk again and was told the same thing. I aksed for a copy of my bill and it was about 435 pesos per call!!! I contacted the Manager [...] to let her know I was mis informed and she said the most she could do was take off 25%. When I left a man named [...] took off another 25%. But there was no accomadations made to my room. Very upsetting!!!
