Dining

Phoenix Restaurant
The Phoenix has recently undergone a complete makeover not only in terms of decor but also the style of menu and service. The designers were well aware of the wonderful features of this grand dining room and the new, more contemporary colour scheme of purples, gold & browns have enriched this space like never before and highlight the natural beauty of the room. Beautiful new bespoke banquette seating and screens have created a more intimate dining experience. Our new, more extensive, a la carte menu offers an exciting array of both local and Mediterranean dishes created using only the freshest ingredients to hand; there is something for everyone.
Palm Court Lounge
The Palm Court Lounge, an oasis of luxury and calm, in the heart of the Hotel Phoenicia is now open after an extensive upgrade. The design team has made use of this most special of spaces to create a new venue for both hotel residents and locals to enjoy. Our new centre piece bar and Italian marble floor are both new, dramatic features of the Lounge. Warm soft furnishing and cool, contemporary colours blend beautifully with the old Maltese stone which clad the walls. From early morning enjoy the finest tea and coffee with warm fresh pastries from our bakery through to lunch with family and friends our culinary team have create a mouth watering variety of sandwiches, salads and snacks complimented by chef's selection of daily specials.
Pegasus Brasserie
The Pegasus Brasserie at the Phoenicia Hotel has been transformed into a stunning contemporary restaurant ideal for a celebratory dinner with friends and loved ones/ The restaurant reflects the Art Deco style of the hotel but with a modern twist and is a delightful place to dine. With a sleek black glass bar and warm oak parquet flooring the whole room exudes a welcome that makes you instantly relax and settle down to enjoy your food. The chefs at Phoenicia have created a mouth-watering menu that changes regularly with specials featured on a chalk board that dominates one wall of the restaurant. The menu offers both traditional and innovative dishes together with a daily selection of fresh fish. The wine list complements the food superbly with a range of both locally produced and international wines.

Lovely hotel, excellent location

The hotel is a lovely deco building with large, well-maintained gardens. The pool has a superb view over Sliema harbour and marina, though is at the very end of the gardens, some minutes' walk from the hotel building (nb Sliema harbour is nice viewed from a distance, but awful to be in - full of big modern hotels and the chain shops and cheap eateries you'd find on any british high street). The pool bar was very expensive - 2.75 euros for a small bottle of water. Hotel staff were courteous, pleasant and very helpful. Public rooms were spacious, elegant and welcoming. Our room was disappointingly small by comparison - maybe 4m square - and seemed rather cramped but it was very clean with nice crisp bedlinen and a very comfortable bed . The bathroom was also small but nicely fitted out. There was a little balcony with just room for a table and two chairs and a side view of the marina which was great apart from the constant hum of vehicle engines from the busy bus station located at the other side of the hotel. However it was also very convenient to be so close to the public transport hub of the island and just a couple of minutes' stroll from the beautiful buildings of Valletta. The bus to the airport stops right outside the hotel (2.60 euros for the 20 minute journey)

Check on line review sites before you go to get some ideas for dining as nearly all the good Valletta restaurants are located in quiet side streets and easy to miss if you don't know they are there.

Great hotel!

Still not sure whether our room was a double deluxe with harbour view as on our last day saw opposite side had floor to ceiling window where we only had standard window but other than that was really spoiled. Went for the history and location and was not disappointed! Recommend contacting hotel directly if u have specific requirements.....I was aware that at moment 3rd and 4th floor are refurbished so was willing to have modern over balcony....lovely quiet room and staff so helpful. Did room only as so close to valetta wanted to go and do breakfast in their many cafes....the hotel also did a very reasonable coffee and crossiant for 3.80 which was great for basic refuelling and could include cappuccinos etc and they have lovely chocolate crossiants. Ate at the Pegasus brassiere on the final night. Was the most expensive meal of out stay but well worth it especially as they filleted the fish and food was perfect. Malta is superb (as it was when we were last there at their sister hotel 6 yrs ago) lots to see and do with spectacular people, history and weather.....we even had a storm to make us feel at home :-). The open top buses were new to us but ideal to see the island without having to drive ourselves. Go to the falconry experience but be aware only open till 12.30....on the south tour but we did taxi there so we could spend maximum time there and simple to get normal bus back....fantastic people who love birds of prey! Missed the old Malta buses but the new ones had better air con. Will be back....to Malta and this hotel as its location is superb and want to see the new city gates finished....maybe be tempted by our of season visit.

unstuffy luxury

We warmed to this hotel with every day. The staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. I returned from an evening out having badly twisted my ankle. Within minutes an ice pack arrived in our room, and a lady in reception phoned the next day to make sure I was OK. We had room service breakfast most days, and it arrived promptly. It did seem to vary in terms of what arrived, and maybe the hotel should consider introducing a standard quantity (this was a breakfast bakers basket). But overall, we were very happy and would definitely book the Phoenicia again.

Meals in the restaurant are very expensive, but there is a very acceptable room service menu which is much more affordable.

Great Stay in Malta!

The hotel's location was an excellent jumping off point for day trips and excursions. Valletta is relatively quiet, so if you wanted night life, clubs, etc., then you had to head over to St. Julian's or Sliema. But given the island isn't that big in the first place, distances are relatively small. Right near the main bus terminal outside Valletta's city wall, rooms could be a bit noisy on that side of the hotel, but not terribly so. The hotel staff was lovely -- very helpful, accommodating, and always pleasant. The pool and gardens were gorgeous, with a great view of one of the harbors and plenty of chaise lounges and towels available. I loved this trip and had I known how wonderful Malta was, would have made it longer than the 4 nights/5 days I stayed!

Take the local bus service! It was cheap ( 0.47 euros per trip), ran regularly, hit most of the major attractions, and was a very Maltese way to travel.

excellent location, good facilities, nice staff

Good location across a roundabout from the entrance to the old city of Valletta. Great facilities, you can sit and swim or drink and eat by the picturesque pool built below one of the city's bastions with a view down to the harbour. The bar, brasserie, and restaurant ( for breakfast ) were all good. The staff seemed very helpful and for the most part genuinely friendly rather than just doing their job.

A Good Choice

We chose the Phoenicia as we were attending a ball in the function suite and because of its convenient location adjacent to the old city. In terms of comfort and convenience it cannot be faulted. Our room was comfortable and well appointed. Our only concern was the cost of meals (even breakfast was very expensive) and as a result we ate out every evening but in Valletta that is no hardship.

Unbeatable location for the price

Malta is a perfect place to visit and enjoy the day and night festivities during the month of October. Weather is very pleasant and permits strolling and sightseeing both day and evening. Gifts and food not very expensive. Most tourist spots in the island are accessible by bus. I rode a bus in commuting between Phoenicia and airport. Hotel Phoenicia is close to perfect location.
