It's not 5 stars

In the beginning, I have never seen like that resiption . It took me about 45m until they set us in room. They did have enough receptionists to serve people. I can rate them 3.5 not 5 star

Park Royal Penang

Lovely setting with green grass providing lots of space and shade and the beach provides a lovely view. That is as good as it gets unfortunately. Rooms in need of an upgrade, swimming pool was like a jacuzzi - the water was so warm -, staff were extremely slow at breakfasts and the internet connectivity was appalling. They need to get their act together and the crowning glory was they charged for the tennis court after 5pm If you want a no frills break then fine but don't expect any more than that

Not a Five Star

I can't rate this hotel as 5-star. The room needs work. Many of the drawers in the room did not fit properly making it difficult to use. Of the three open plugs we wanted to use to charge our iPods, only two one worked. The razor outlet in the bathroom did not even accept a plug! The staff needs to be better informed. Electrical system was disabled to do safety work. Activities were planned during the outage. Each room got a letter detailing the activities. Not one staff member we talked to had a clue as to what activities were planned, let alone tell us where to go for the activities. The hotel needs work.

Definitely not 5-star!

If you would have told me that the ParkRoyal Resort was a 3-star hotel, I would have been OK with it, there's no way this hotel deserves to rated as a 5-star. I'm in a 5-star hotel (Westin Xi'an) and the ParkRoyal does not come close. The rugs had stains. The top drawer in the chest was warped and my son couldn't open it after unpacking his clothes. I had to practically pry it open. The closet doors also were sticky. Maintenance obviously was not high on their priority. When we arrived, we found a note saying that the electrical system needed work. The letter detailed activites available to compensate. When we asked, no one on their staff could direct us to the batik drawing class offered. Later, we asked about another activity with the concierge. She had no idea what we were talking about. Why bother writing a letter and offering activities and not tell our staff? Very stupid. We didn't bother asking for any help from the staff. Overpriced, in disrepair, unhelpful staff. Acceptable if they said they were three or less stars. Go elsewhere for five star experience.

Golden Thai restaurant. While they cooked the lobsters well, $300 for two lobsters is beyond astronomical.

Beautiful Hotel, very romantic!

The staff made us feel special when we arrived for our honeymoon by giving us a welcome drink and putting flowers in our room. The room was very clean and the breakfast was great! I loved the open atmosphere and the pool. The location is a bit far from the main city, but if you want a beach break and a romantic atmosphere this place is really special. Compared to the other hotels I had been to in Malaysia I found the Spa a bit expensive. There are great restaurants near the hotel and only a 3 minute bus ride from the spice garden.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

If you exit the hotel and turn right and walk down the street, about 2 minutes from the hotel is a restaurant, I can't remember the name, but the sign had a blue circle and it is attached to a cafe (which is before you get to the restaurant) the service is impecible, what you would expect in a 5 star restaurant, and the food amazing!!!
